Now, hold onto your floaties because this gigantic mosquito with a 15-foot wingspan isn’t just any ol’ bug!
It was crafted by artist Marlene Magnusson Hourd between 1984 and 1986.
A fitting monument to honour the town’s cheeky title.
“Mosquito Capital of the World.”
In fact, if you didn’t know, the name Komarno comes straight from Ukrainian, meaning “lots of mosquitoes.”
Nestled about an hour’s drive north of Winnipeg, Komarno is a cozy little community bursting with warmth and charm.
Imagine a place where residents proudly embrace their buzzing neighbours.
Instead of running from them!
The statue doesn’t just sit pretty; it also doubles as a wind vane, spinning around to show off its playful spirit each time a breeze blows through.
