    Vulcon – Vulcan, Alberta

Today, I’m diving into the interesting town of Vulcan, Alberta, in the heart of Canada.

Thanks to BOBBER Oliver, who entered Week 19 of the GET YOUR BOB ON Contest, I’m here to share a few details of this sci-fi paradise!

It may not be a space station, but with its charming atmosphere and stunning surroundings of wheat, canola, and barley fields, Vulcan is out of this world!

It’s a stunning sight that everyone stops to marvel at.

Your trip wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Vulcan Museum, where history and the future converge.

This annual event is a weekend extravaganza filled with all things Star Trek, taking place from July 24-26, 2026.

With a colourful blend of humanoids, Ferengi, Klingons, and Vulcans swarming the town in their finest cosplay!

While Vulcan was named long before Star Trek took flight, it has crafted a playful, unique identity. This identity captures the essence of exploration and camaraderie among fans from all walks of life.

  • The Crooked Bush – Hafford, Saskatchewan

The Crooked Bush – Hafford, Saskatchewan

Our GET YOUR BOB ON Contest week 16 winner, Grayson from Saskatchewan, submitted this phenomenon as one of his favourite local BOBortunities!

They’re all about bending and twisting in the most peculiar ways, as if they’ve taken a yoga class or two.

Scientists believe these trees are the result of a rare genetic mutation, which means they’re as unique as I am in my little rubbery world!

Many locals think there’s something supernatural going on, which adds a sprinkle of mystery to The Crooked Bush.

But enough about the myths, let’s get to the good stuff!

Grayson admires the vibrant greens of a lush summer and the bright golds in the fall.

The Crooked Bush is fabulous year-round, but around Halloween, everything gets a little more eerie, perfect for those seeking a fun fright!

Don’t forget to bring your camera; you’ll want to capture these quirky trees.

And remember, folks, keep your hands to yourselves and let these marvellous trees stand tall in their crooked glory.

  • Cape Tyron Lighthouse – Prince Edward Island

Cape Tyron Lighthouse – Prince Edward Island

I’ve learned plenty about this lovely spot, thanks to Thomas from PEI, as our Week 13 winner of the Get Your Bob On contest!

It watches over the shimmering waters along the northern coast of Prince Edward Island.

It ensures that all mariners navigate safely past the shallow waters.

It guides boats safely between Richmond Bay and New London, warning of the tricky shallow waters that extend far from shore.

He parks his car, gazes out over the ocean, and reflects on the rich stories this lighthouse holds.

Standing there, expertly guiding ships with the flicker of a candle in the fog!

While the lighthouse is on private property, you can still enjoy its splendour from a nearby public road.

  • Bata Shoe Museum – Toronto, Ontario

Bata Shoe Museum – Toronto, Ontario

Jocelyn from Ontario brought the Bata Shoe Museum to the forefront in her submission to win week 12 of the Get Your Bob On Contest.

This museum is not your average gallery; it’s a treasure trove of history that spans over 4,500 years, dedicated entirely to the fascinating story told through shoes.

From the sandals of ancient civilizations to modern-day designs, each pair has its own narrative.

Sonja embarked on this journey with the mission to illuminate human history through footwear, and our BOBBER Jocelyn loves that!

She visits every year to explore the ever-changing exhibits, and frankly, I think she might be the museum’s biggest fan!

That’s right, while I’m happy with my shiny yellow exterior, Jocelyn’s passion for shoes knows no bounds.

She jokes that she has a pair to suit her every mood, thank goodness she doesn’t have duck feet like me!

At every social event she plans to attend, Jocelyn insists on finding the perfect shoes before she even thinks about the outfit.

Then the outfit must work perfectly with those shoes.  Now that’s dedication!

I must admit, her approach to fashion suits me perfectly.

There’s something special about the way shoes connect people across cultures and eras.

Some shoes have walked through time, while others have danced their way into our hearts.

Each pair reveals something about the people who wore them: traditions, innovations, and a touch of personal flair.

It’s a reminder of how footwear has always been more than a mere necessity; it’s a form of expression.

You might leave inspired to strut your stuff and show off your footwear of choice.

Maybe one of these fabulous shoes will inspire you to tackle your next challenge, or at least provide a great excuse for buying another pair!

  • Skating at the Forks – Winnipeg, Manitoba

Skating at the Forks – Winnipeg, Manitoba

As I bobbed along, my bright yellow exterior gleaming in the sunlight, I was bubbling with excitement for a play date with my best pal, Grace. The trails shimmered with frost, beckoning us to lace up our skates and breathe in the crisp winter air.

Each winter, the rivers transform into a lively playground, where skaters twirl like whirling dervishes and families stroll along the longest naturally frozen skating trail in the world.

This vibrant tradition started in 2008-09, and boy, has it been a Winnipeg must-do event ever since!

From my cozy perch, I watched everyone enjoying the warming huts.

They’re not just practical shelters; they’re art pieces created by local and international artists in an annual contest.

They certainly add a splash of colour and creativity to the trail.

Some huts make a comeback each year, but most are new contenders, showcasing fresh talent.

It looked a little like a television character named SpongeBob.  Just the sight of it made me feel right at home in the frosty atmosphere.

Folks were gathered here, swapping stories and sipping hot drinks, their cheeks blooming from the cold and their smiles radiating warmth.

Of course, I was thrilled! Little did I know that my role in this game would take a hilariously unexpected twist.

It was a beautiful day of skating and laughter, a memory I’ll treasure as a delightful adventure on the ice!

I even picked up a new friend along the way!

  • Good Cheer Trail – Nova Scotia

Good Cheer Trail – Nova Scotia

Thanks to Bobber Ron from Nova Scotia for bringing this incredible experience to my attention as part of the “Get Your BOB On” contest. So, let’s dive in!

Spanning from the stunning coastal town of Yarmouth all the way up to the charming Sydney on Cape Breton Island.

This trail features over 80 stops where you can sample the best wines, craft beers, ciders, spirits, and even mead that the province has to offer!

    Talk about a beverage buffet!

The name itself harks back to 1606 when the first gathering of L’Ordre du Bon Temps (Order of Good Cheer) took place in Port Royal.

This club was set up to help folks survive those icy winters and is also regarded as one of North America’s earliest gastronomic societies, bringing people together through the magic of food and drink!

Imagine waddling along this path, each stop celebrating the spirit of the Order of Good Cheer, founded by Samuel de Champlain at North America’s first European settlement. Talk about a historic hop and sip!

Like Lunn’s Mill Brewing Co., where you can savour some delicious craft beers,

and Tidal Bay Winery, boasting white wines that capture the very essence of Nova Scotia.

And I can’t help but quack about Glenora Distillery – the first single malt whisky distillery in North America! Cheers to that!

Whether you’re a local or a visitor, it’s an adventure worth experiencing!

You can pick up this passport at various stops along the way, or download the app to collect stamps as you visit different venues.

Not only does it allow you to keep track of your journey, but collecting stamps can lead to some delightful rewards, including a free t-shirt and entries into grand prize draws!

Hotel de Glace (Ice Hotel) – Valcartier, Quebec

Hold on to your flippers because we’re diving into a magical moment that unfolded at the one and only Hôtel de Glace, or as I like to call it, the Ice Hotel in Valcartier, Quebec.

Now, imagine Emilie’s boyfriend concocting a weekend brimming with surprises.

A dazzling engagement ring waiting in his pocket to pop the big question.

After their 40-minute drive from Quebec City, they waddled through the stunning entrance.

The Grand Hall was filled with jaw-dropping ice sculptures and twinkling lights.

They like Hollywood icons at an extravagant gala instead of an icy getaway!

Wrapped in fluffy fleece blankets, they snuggled together, no doubt sharing chuckles and sweet whispers in their snug little hideaway.

Off they went to the Nordic area, where bubbling hot tubs and a canopy of stars invited them to relax.

Basking in the warmth while laughter danced through the frosty air!

Zipping down thrilling slopes at Village Vacances Valcartier, cheeks flushed and giggles echoing all around.

Then, off to the ice rink, gliding and twirling hand in hand beneath the gentle kiss of the winter sun.

With a heart full of excitement, Emilie’s boyfriend dropped to one knee under twinkling lights that sparkled like stars.

Out came that stunning ring, and Emilie – oh, she just glimmered with joy!

“YES!” she whispered, and I could practically hear the cheers echoing through the wintry wonderland.

As they checked out the next day, they cheered at the thought of returning.

After all, the magic of winter and their beautiful love story would be waiting for them to explore again.

World’s Largest Sausage Landmark – Mundare, Alberta

She shared a whacky yet wonderful BOBortunity centered around the World’s Biggest Sausage landmark, as recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records in 2001.

At first, I thought Ashley might just be playing with my feathery head. However, as I dove deeper into this tale, I discovered a story that’s as meaty as it is fascinating!

This 42-foot-tall sausage statue is quite the eye-catcher. It is a tribute to Stawnichy’s Meat Processing, a family-run sausage factory famous for its kielbasa (that’s sausage to you land squirrels!).

Built in 2001 for around $120,000, this colossal 12,000-pound monument was crafted to brave winds of up to 160 km/h. It stands tall alongside flags representing Canada, Alberta, and, of course, the Stawnichy brand.

Among the culinary treasures they introduced is the beloved kielbasa. This highly seasoned garlic sausage first hit the market in 1959, thanks to the Stawnichy family!

So, thanks, Ashley, for sharing this delightful tale of the World’s Largest Sausage and the roots of a successful Canadian sausage dynasty.

  • Raw Oyster Company Pop Up at Torque Brewing – Winnipeg, Manitoba

Raw Oyster Company Pop Up at Torque Brewing – Winnipeg, Manitoba

Well, well, well, what a delightful surprise it was to float into the world of fresh oysters way out here in the prairies! Discovering a raw oyster company in such an unexpected place is truly remarkable. And no, I’m not talking about those Prairie Oysters you might be thinking of (yikes!).

Chef Aaron Crawford, the mastermind behind Raw Oyster Company, started this magical journey in spring 2023. He’s already made waves, sourcing and serving some of the top oysters across the country. Originally from Winnipeg, he trained under some of Canada’s culinary masters, and now he’s bringing the ocean’s bounty right to our prairie doors!

My human has heard raving reviews about the Raw Oyster Company pop up events.

They happened to be throwing a shindig nearby, and she couldn’t contain her bubbling excitement as she and her friend arrived for an afternoon full of tasty treasures!

Torque Brewing, established back in 2016, is a gem tucked near the Winnipeg airport. Trust me, this place is a breeze to find — just a simple turn off King Edward Street, and voila! Parking? Plenty of space!

The vibe inside is modern yet cozy, with a bar that runs almost the entire width of the taproom.

Comfy barstools make it perfect for a gathering of fellow foodies, and with around 18 crafted beers on tap, it’s a beer lover’s paradise.

Now, my human didn’t really fancy herself a beer connoisseur, but fear not!

They had some fine wines to sip while gobbling down succulent seafood!

Upon arrival mid-afternoon, the lineup had already moved on, giving my human and her friend a chance to chat with the staff and soak in the rich history of getting seafood into the heart of the prairies.

Oysters are, of course, a highlight, but expect surprises like seafood boils and towers that keep everyone guessing (and salivating)!

Oh boy! They started with the Irish Point oysters from Rustica Harbour, PEI, served with zesty lemon and an out-of-this-world vinegar combo that made those little delights sing!

My humans might not be oyster experts, but they sure knew these were among the best they’d ever tasted.

A spectacular assortment of shellfish arrived, and I could practically hear the “oohs” and “aahs” echoing.

We’re talking whole lobster, sizable crab, mussels, shrimp, and all the classic fixings, perfectly cooked corn on the cob, tender potatoes, and juicy sausage tossed together in a spicy sauce that made the flavours dance!

After indulging in their tasty marathon, they eased up with an extra glass of cabernet.

So, what inspired Chef Aaron to start Raw Oyster Company?

He saw a gap, a true lack of fresh seafood in the prairies!

Sure, restaurants serve oysters, but his mission is to bring ocean-fresh experiences to our landlocked hearts.

Oh, and just a little reminder: The Raw Oyster Company doesn’t just stop at pop-ups: they’re also offering catering!

Imagine the joy and astonishment on your guests’ faces when they see a seafood spread like this at your event.

In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled for the next pop-up event that is sure to be soon.

Taste of Manitoba – Winnipeg, Manitoba

Hey there, my feathery friends! It’s me, Bob the rubber ducky, quacking in from the unforgettable Taste of Manitoba 2025 in the vibrant city of Winnipeg!

From the moment my trusty ride, Goldie, rolled into the scene, my humans were bubbling over with excitement. They were ready to dive into this annual gastronomic extravaganza!

This year, we were greeted by an impressive lineup of 19 food booths. Alongside, a bustling vendor village showcasing 20 amazing Manitoba-based businesses: from sparkling jewelry creators to innovative food manufacturers, all eager to share their delightful products.

Taste of Manitoba was scheduled for five fun-filled days. Each day had a unique theme: Hospitality, ’80s, ’90s, Family and First Responder. These themes made each day a new adventure with events and entertainment related to the theme of the day!

Sherwood’s Bar and Grill treated them to a Pulled Pork Bannock Bun that was simply out of this world!

Dave and Laverne’s, who could resist the crispy Brussels sprouts and their outstanding Oklahoma Slider.

CIBO Waterfront Café served up Mini Arancini that made them quack with joy.

The Mango Shrimp Tacos from Saddlery on Market, I mean, who doesn’t love a taco?

529 Wellington and Uptown wowed me with their Long Dry Ribs and Fancy Tots that were finger-licking good.

They also couldn’t get enough of the Perogy Bites from Perfect Pierogies, a true local treasure!

And lastly, they indulged in a slice of Key Lime Pie from Moxies, oh my quack, what a sweet ending!

Each of these chosen booths was like a treasure chest of flavours, leaving my humans more than satisfied.

The portions were hearty, and the passionate teams behind each booth were such a delight.

Their cheerful smiles made each bite even more enjoyable, making us feel right at home amidst all the hustle of hungry visitors.

We had sampled Perfect Pierogies at their food station. So we stopped by to visit their team in the vendor area.

One lady shared that she has worked with Perfect Pierogies for over 20 years. She even shared that the current CEO was her trainee at one point in time! What a treasure trove of knowledge and pride!

Perfect Pierogies is a family-owned and operated food manufacturing company located in Garson, Manitoba.

Their pierogies are available across Canada at retail and are the chosen pierogi for many restaurants and caterers.

Von Slicks is a newer gem that offers award-winning flavoured finishing butter sticks, such a cool local invention!

Von Slicks blends real food with real butter in small batches. Then they package it perfectly in a push tube, making for easy use, minimizing mess and waste.

What a great concept! Their savoury and sweet varieties are must-tries for steaks, pancakes, and everything in between.

Currently distributed at a variety of Western Canadian retailers and online in the cooler months. My humans can hardly wait to pick up a couple tubes!

We were fortunate to bask in perfectly sunny weather that set the stage for a day filled with deliciousness and friendly vibes.

Every bite was an explosion of flavour, and we waddled away with full bellies and hearts brimming with joy.

A huge shout-out to the incredible planning team behind this event! Your dedication and attention to detail really shone through, creating an absolutely delightful atmosphere.

The venue was fantastic, allowing us to waddle to our favourite booths in a merry loop—a haven for every food lover!

If you haven’t dipped your feathers into the Taste of Manitoba, you’d better mark your calendars for next year! This delicious celebration of local flavours is not to be missed.

We can’t wait for the chance to dive back into those delectable delights!

In the coming months, we plan to venture to each of the restaurants and businesses we sampled during our Taste of Manitoba escapade.

We are eager to unravel their full stories and share them with you. So stay close, my adventurous friends, because many engaging tales are on the horizon!

Motorcycle Awareness Ride – Winnipeg, Manitoba

While my humans are bundled up inside, dreaming of the open roads, I’m stuck here in the garage next to Goldie, who is just shivering away, longing for the warmth of Spring in Manitoba.

Little ol’ bikes like Goldie might be smaller than cars and trucks, but that doesn’t mean we don’t deserve some love on the roads.

Every year, as the biking season kicks off, catchy billboards popping up everywhere reminding everyone that bikes are back!

Just like humans need to remember how to navigate snow-covered roads in winter with their cars, they need a refresher on how to coexist with bikes once spring rolls around.

They take road safety seriously, after all, when a bike gets into a tangle, it’s not a good day for the rider or the ride!

This event is like a big family reunion for bikers, attracting a massive crowd of at least 200 riders who gather, share stories, and ride through the city together, eventually ending up at a neat spot for food, games, and a charity raffle!

I vividly remember May 2025. We were there, all revved up and excited at Princess Auto on the East side of the city.

The vibe was electric as we gathered to reconnect before hopping onto Goldie for a thrilling ride through the city on the Trans-Canada Highway.

Destination – the Headingly Sports Shop just outside the West perimeter in Headingly, Manitoba.

When we arrived at Headingly Sports Shop, it felt as welcoming as a summer breeze!

Grace had pulled out all the stops: food truck, hot dog cart, axe-throwing, and fabulous raffle prizes!

We raised a staggering amount for charity, increased awareness about bikes on the road, and strengthened the bonds within our motorcycle community.

I can hardly wait to join my motorcycle friends, feel the thrill of the open road, and spread the word that we’re back in action!

Last Chance Saloon – Wayne, Alberta

Today I am sharing a BOBortunity from the charming depths of Wayne, Alberta, a small town nestled in the picturesque Canadian Badlands.

Prepare to be captivated by the unique charm of the Last Chance Saloon.

Established in 1913 during the bustling coal mining boom, the Rosedeer Hotel and its delightful companion, the Last Chance Saloon, have evolved. They are lively hubs of conversation and camaraderie in what was once a thriving coal mining community.

Once infamously dubbed the “Bucket of Blood” for the raucous shenanigans of miners, you can still imagine the scenario that resulted in the historic bullet holes decorating the saloon walls.

Go ahead, ask your server for a peek!

My first human’s chose the fish and chips.

With a crispy batter and fish tender enough to please even the pickiest palate.

    Pure bliss!

My other human could not resist the smoky BBQ ribs—hold on to your hats!

Smoky and succulent, they paired harmoniously with perfectly prepared homemade beans, adding a comforting touch.

Let’s not forget about the beating heart of the saloon – Paula and her excellent choices for the staffing!

With enthusiasm that bubbles like a refreshing brook, their passion flows through every corner of the Last Chance.

The team creates an inviting atmosphere, making this the perfect spot for locals and travellers alike to gather, share hearty laughs, and enjoy the fantastic food on offer.

A highlight that the group was eager to share with us is a one-of-a-kind historic bandbox. This unique musical instrument, a staple of entertainment in the early days of the Last Chance Saloon, was played for us.

A visit to the Last Chance Saloon is like hopping into a delightful time machine filled with charming history, warm faces, and mouthwatering feasts.

Whether you’re popping in for a tempting meal or simply soaking up the nostalgic vibes of this cherished establishment, it’s clear this beloved bar will shine brightly in our hearts for many quacktacular years to come!

Fort Langley National Historic Site – Langley, British Columbia

Hello, adventurous pals! Bob here to tell you about my splash-tastic journey to the Fort Langley Historical Site in beautiful British Columbia! Even though the sun decided to play hide-and-seek on our visit, we made waves of memories!

Imagine this vibrant fur trading post where Indigenous peoples and European settlers came together. They traded everything from beaver pelts to shiny metal trinkets.

It’s like a historical marketplace that would have been filled with bustling chatter and exciting exchanges!

As swarms of miners flocked to the area like seagulls diving for chips, Governor James Douglas declared British Columbia a colony right in the heart of the Big House at Fort Langley. Talk about a moment for the history books!

Fast forward to today, and Fort Langley is a treasure trove of fun and learning for families! I waddled around the grounds, and boy, did we have a blast!

Kids were laughing and learning through hands-on activities that truly brought history to life.

Next up was the fur press! This was no ordinary contraption; it’s what folks used to squish those furs tight for shipping around the globe. It made me think about all those hardworking hands that made it all happen. Phew!

The Stores Building was next on our path. This building housed everything that the Fort would sell or use in day-to-day life.

Finally, we reached the Big House, which was home to the fort leadership. Meetings and discussions held in this building led to decisions that changed the course of history.

If you ever find yourself cruising through British Columbia, make sure to splash into the magic of Fort Langley Historical Site!

Set aside plenty of time, there’s loads to explore in this beautifully preserved piece of Canadiana.

You’ll soak up fascinating history, have a whale of a time, and who knows, you might even find a few new faces along the way!

A riot of colours and shapes dances before my eyes at every turn. Honestly, it’s like nature threw a confetti party, and I’m here for all of it!

After soaking in all that excitement, we made a pit stop at a food truck that had us quacking with delight: Potato Tornado! One of my humans is a die-hard potato enthusiast, but this was a potato experience like no other. Imagine crispy, spiral-cut potatoes on a stick—talk about whimsical! This spiralling slice of heaven is so enormous that you want to have a buddy to share it with (or not; I won’t judge!). If you find yourself at Queen Elizabeth Park, make sure to grab one of these delicious treats. Trust me, they’re irresistible!

And don’t forget to check out the stunning quarry garden, the arboretum filled with magnificent trees, and sculptures from the renowned artist Henry Moore. It’s an art lover’s dream!

For those who enjoy a bit of action, the park offers tennis courts, lawn bowling, and pitch-and-putt! You can relax with a picnic, marvel at the stars, or, if you’re in the mood for a fine dining experience, Seasons in the Park awaits.

Unfortunately, the grand finale we hoped for was closed for repairs: the fabulous Dancing Waters fountain! Located near the Bloedel Conservatory, this spectacular display features 70 jets of water and uses 85,000 litres of recirculating water, creating a mesmerizing dance both day and night. The fountain operates on a special program that varies the heights of the jets. We will return to experience this stunning sight!

As I waddled into the head office, factory, and outlet of this chocolate paradise, I was greeted by an enthusiastic young lady. Stepping into a Rocky Mtn Chocolate shop is like diving into a pool of pure sugary joy! Every treat, from their signature boxed chocolates to the legendary hand-dipped caramel apples. The Burnaby outlet shop may not feature the captivating sight of artisans hard at work. But it still showcases an exciting array of tasty options, ensuring there’s something for every chocolate lover.

  • Downtown Sidney – Sidney, British Columbia

Downtown Sidney – Sidney, British Columbia

What a quack-tastic morning I had exploring the charming waterfront area of Sidney, BC!

My humans were visiting the beautiful Victoria area on Vancouver Island, and we booked a ferry ride back to the mainland departing from this little gem of a town.

As I floated down those delightful streets, I couldn’t help but ponder Sidney’s rich history; turns out it was ferry central for foot traffic since 1912, and then upgraded to automobile ferries in 1922! Can you imagine all the folks who waddled these streets before me?

But, just as we started our quest, the heavenly aroma of freshly baked goodies swept through the air. My humans, unable to resist the scent, led us on a quick detour to Sidney Bakery.

Oh my quack, the choices were endless! They finally settled on some unique and scrumptious pastries, and I was on cloud nine, floating with excitement.

Next up was Alexander’s Coffee Bar, and what a treat it was! The coffee was brewed to perfection, one of my humans even transformed theirs into a latte! Now that’s what I call a classy start to the day.

After indulging our eyes with this stunning scenery, we made our way to the Surly Mermaid for lunch. Oh, what a quirky spot it was!

The food was simply out of this world, and I could practically taste the happiness radiating from my humans as they savoured every bite.

As excited as I was for our next adventure, I felt a twinge of sadness saying goodbye to such a lovely and welcoming place.

As we boarded the ferry back to Vancouver, I couldn’t help but quack with glee about the wonderful memories we’d created. Here’s to even more adventures and quack-tastic moments in the future!

Fisherman’s Wharf – Victoria, British Columbia

Bobbing joyfully in the gentle waves at Victoria’s Fisherman’s Wharf, I’m quacking with excitement to share my vibrant adventures from this delightful marine paradise! Just a hop, skip, and a splash away from the bustling Inner Harbour, Fisherman’s Wharf is a treasure trove of sights, sounds, and scrumptious flavours. Each day is a new escapade.

Fisherman’s Wharf is a unique marine destination where food kiosks, charming boutiques, and unforgettable eco-tours await your discovery! Here, you’ll find an intriguing mix of fishing vessels and pleasure boats (complete with their live-aboard residents!). Additionally, there are float homes and dynamic commercial businesses. It’s a cornucopia of coastal life!

Barb’s Fish and Chips is practically a legend at the wharf, dishing out joy and fish since 1984! I love watching the excitement bubble up as locals and tourists line up. They eagerly anticipate their bites of the world-famous crispy BC Halibut. The tantalizing aroma wafting through the air (can you believe rubber ducks can detect smells?) makes my fluffy little ears perk up in anticipation. With open-air picnic tables right by the water, it’s the perfect place to feast on this delectable seafood while seals frolic nearby.

Don’t even get me started on Jackson’s Ice Cream, oh, what a treat! I can barely contain my delight as I watch kids giggle and bounce around, their ice cream cones piled high with mouthwatering flavours. It’s the ultimate way to cool down after a day of exploring! I float in my cozy corner, catching glimpses of those gleeful little faces taking their first tastes. Let me tell you, I can almost savour the joy right along with them! But caution alert!

After that little scare, I had my humans stop by the 4 Winds Nest Boutique for a breather. Although I was hoping for a cozy spot in an actual nest (hey, I’m a duck, after all!), I was thrilled to discover this charming shop filled with beautiful creations by talented Canadian artisans. From hand-crafted pottery to stunning jewelry and delicious preserves, it’s a feast for the eyes! I enjoy watching humans marvel at the colourful displays while I float nearby. The creative energy that fills the air is invigorating.

And oh, the excitement ramped up for our final stop! Aligning our visit with May 5th meant it was time to celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Puerto Vallarta Amigos! This delightful floating eatery serves up mouth-watering traditional recipes, bringing a taste of Mexico to the tranquil wharf. The Baja-style Fish Tacos have turned into the talk of the town!

The music, dancing, laughter, and delicious food brought the whole wharf to life on this festive day. Families gathered on the dock, sampling vibrant flavours and merriment. I couldn’t help but bounce with delight at the radiant smiles lighting up their faces!

As we strolled back to our car, I drifted along the docks, admiring the unique float homes lining the waterway. Oh, how splendid and colourful they are! They tug at my heartstrings while I respectfully honour the privacy of their residents. Just imagine living in those whimsical floating abodes! I can picture the breathtaking views and the friendly waves from their cozy homes, each a little slice of life on the water.

Fisherman’s Wharf is not just a destination; it’s a vibrant community alive with flavour, creativity, and charm. From indulging in local delicacies to discovering boutique treasures, there’s always something extraordinary happening.

So, if you ever find yourself in Victoria, head on down to the Wharf and let the adventures unfold, I guarantee you’ll leave with a heart full of joy and memories to last a lifetime!

  • Chinatown – Victoria, British Columbia

    Chinatown – Victoria, British Columbia

Hello, my fabulous friends! It’s your squishy sidekick, Bob the Rubber Duck, here to quack my way through another thrilling escapade.  This time in the colourful Chinatown of Victoria, British Columbia! Quack-quack! Join me as we dive into a vibrant blend of history, culture, and modern charm in this extraordinary locale.

Nestled right in the beating heart of Victoria, Chinatown is not just a neighbourhood; it’s a treasure chest of stories, making it one of the oldest in all of Canada, with roots dating back to the bustling 1850s. Imagine a time when brave Chinese immigrants landed here during the gold rush, ready to carve out their dreams!

They brought with them their traditions, skills, and a hearty spirit, transforming this area into a lively hub bursting with shops, eateries, and cultural gems. Can you picture the hustle and bustle of that era? It was alive with excitement, and the echoes of those pioneering days still resonate through the streets today!

But every tale has its ups and downs. The Chinese community in Victoria faced some turbulent waters with significant hardships, discrimination, and exclusion over the years.

However, in 2019, a wave of hope washed over the community when the City of Victoria extended a heartfelt apology for past injustices. This sincere acknowledgment was not just a gesture; it was a powerful statement of reconciliation and inclusivity. Isn’t it uplifting to see how far we’ve come together?

Now, let’s float into the vibrant present! As you step into this delightful neighbourhood, you can’t miss the stunning Gate of Harmonious Interest.

Erected in 1981 as part of a revitalization effort led by the City of Victoria and the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, this impressive gate stands at a towering 38 feet, adorned with intricate red and gold decorations symbolizing unity and harmony. Talk about a grand entrance!

Engraved on the gate are two heartfelt inscriptions: “To work together with one heart” and “To help each other achieve harmony.” These words are a beautiful tribute to the collaboration between Chinese and non-Chinese communities during its creation.

And let’s not forget the mighty stone lions flanking the entrance, generously donated by Victoria’s sister city of Suzhou.

Inside the gate’s outer red pillars, there are not one but two time capsules, set to be opened in 2081 and 2096! Plus, a plaque commemorates the brave 61 Chinese Canadians who made the ultimate sacrifice during World War II. This isn’t just a photo op; it’s a gateway to the past and the future!

Now, as I waddle down the enchanting Fan Tan Alley, which happens to be the narrowest commercial street in all of North America (seriously, it’s less than 3 feet wide at its skinniest!), I can’t help but soak in the vibrant energy around me.

Once infamous for opium factories and gambling dens, this alley has undergone a thrilling revival. In the early 1900s, it bustled with life, but police raids and changing tides led to its decline. By the 1970s and 80s, the alley was sparkling anew, transformed into what we can experience today!

I breathe in the delightful scents wafting from the many eateries as I paddle past colourful murals and charming boutiques. My humans found some truly unique treasures to bring back to our cozy nest.

Oh, and let me tell you about the culinary adventure we embarked upon at Little Yunnan, where one of my humans experienced the legendary Crossing the Bridge Noodle meal for the very first time—delicious doesn’t even begin to cover it!

Whether you’re on the hunt for quirky gifts, indulging in scrumptious bites, or simply revelling in the rich culture surrounding you, Chinatown in Victoria is a delightful treasure trove brimming with experiences waiting to be uncovered. So, let’s paddle over, enjoy the eclectic shops, and celebrate this beautiful tapestry of history and modern life!

Your adventure awaits, and I promise you’ll leave with memories as vibrant as the colourful lanterns illuminating this enchanting neighbourhood! Quack on and let the fun begin!
