  • Myrtie Mae’s Diner – Eureka Springs, Arkansas

Myrtie Mae’s Diner – Eureka Springs, Arkansas

Oh boy, let me tell you about the splashtastic adventure I had at Myrtie Mae’s Diner in Eureka Springs, Arkansas! I was positively bubbling with excitement as we paddled our way to this local treasure. We were on a delicious quest to try the infamous possum pie! We had heard whispers about this decadent Arkansas dessert, and I was eager to finally try it out.

Fast forward to today: Myrtie Mae’s has transformed from a quaint cabin into a lively diner, all while retaining that heartwarming charm! The walls are decorated with nostalgic photographs and memorabilia. Each tells a tale of travellers’ past. As we stepped inside, the delightful aromas of comfort food enveloped me like a warm, delightful hug. I knew we were in for a real treat!

One of the first things that caught my eye was the salad bar, an absolute feast for the senses! Fresh greens, vibrant veggies, creamy dressings, and crunchy toppings made my heart flutter with joy.

Who knew a salad could look so fun? I almost considered diving right into the lettuce myself, a salad bar designed for both humans and ducks!

Again, there was absolutely no reason to move on from here with more food. However, we were determined to taste Arkansas’ infamous possum pie. Now, before you get any ideas, let me clarify: there are no possums involved in this pie. The name comes from the fact that the ingredients, a rich chocolate filling and a smooth cream cheese layer, are ‘playing possum’ under a thick, decadent layer of whipped cream.

It’s a playful name for a delicious dessert, and I can assure you, no possum meat is involved. This dessert was a fabulous fusion of creamy chocolate and smooth cream cheese. Let me tell you, it was just as delightful as the legend promised! Each forkful was a sweet serenade, a perfect ending to a perfect meal. It left everyone with grins wider than the Arkansas River.

We were seated faster than I could paddle my little feet. Coffee cups were brimming and water poured with a flourish before we could even say “quack!” Now, let’s talk about the menu, shall we? It was a treasure trove of hearty breakfast options. This made it nearly impossible to choose. But choose we did, and let me tell you, our selections were absolutely delectable!

There’s Grotto, a wood-fired grill and wine bar, where dreams of smoked duck and quail poppers come true, perfect for a celebratory splurge!

Then there’s Sauced, which promises a BBQ and brews extravaganza packed with smoked meats and craft beers, yummy!

And don’t forget Slane Tavern, a cozy Irish-style bar open on weekends, offering great entertainment and a laid-back vibe.

  • Flat Creek Restaurant – Cape Fair, Missouri

Flat Creek Restaurant – Cape Fair, Missouri

Wow, what a quacking good time we had at Flat Creek Restaurant in Cape Fair, Missouri! We were enjoying our final group ride of the Badger Bash hosted by Support Bikers in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, when out of nowhere there was a chuck wagon and a giant “cock” standing proud at the side of a restaurant just outside of Cape Fair, Missouri.

Sonny and Angie had planned for the stop at Flat Creek Restaurant and Bar to be our send-off lunch from the event, and what a great choice it was.

Once we waddled through the doors, I was enveloped in a wave of nostalgia. The decor sparked memories of grand adventures, with quirky statues, vintage license plates, and old-timey photos adorning the walls. It was like stepping back into a fun-filled backyard BBQ, but with much more fabulous food!

Our server was almost hand-picked for us, thanks to her quick wit and tolerance for our quirky camaraderie. She wasted no time in delivering a Blue Lagoon frozen cocktail that practically sparkled with delight! Served in a gigantic fishbowl glass, it was so refreshing that I contemplated taking a plunge right in! The colour was mesmerizing, like a shimmering summer ocean in a cup!

But wait! The real star of the show was Sonny’s chicken-fried steak, a family-sized platter that could probably feed a small army! Served alongside mountains of creamy mashed potatoes and vibrant green beans, it was a feast fit for a king! We all ended up stuffed like a hot air balloon, leaving no room for dessert. Talk about a guaranteed food coma!

If you ever find yourself quacking about in Cape Fair, Missouri, be sure to hop on over to Flat Creek! With its friendly service, delicious food, and a vibe that’s as cozy as a warm bath, it’s a must-visit. Trust me, my humans were quacking about it for the rest of the day!

The Squatch – Eureka Springs, Arkansas

Before the trip, I did some detective work and uncovered a treasure trove of documented sightings of Sasquatch reaching back to 1851, right in Arkansas! From police reports to captivating books, to YouTube posts, and even movies, the lore of this mysterious, towering behemoth had my feathers ruffled. The thought of a creature standing a whopping seven feet tall, cloaked in dark, shaggy hair and sporting enormous feet. Twenty-four inches of pure mystery sends shivers down my spine! No wonder they call him Big Foot!

  • Lambert’s Cafe II – Ozark, Missouri

Lambert’s Cafe II – Ozark, Missouri

Quack! Bob here to update you on a destination visited. My human friends, Sonny and Angie, whisked me away on a motorcycle tour during the vibrant Badger Bash in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. You won’t believe where we ended up! That’s right, Lambert’s Café II in Ozark, Missouri!  I have come to discover that Lambert’s is not just a restaurant; it is a destination that attracts people from across the country. But let’s go back to the beginning.

Lambert’s was born when Earl and Agnes Lambert, with 14 cents between them, borrowed $1500 from a friend. With a team of five employees, they opened for business in a small building on South Main Street in Sikeston, Missouri, on March 13, 1942. The place had a tiny counter with only nine stools and eight tables, just enough room for 41 folks to indulge in a hearty meal of veggies, meat and dessert. Who knew that amid wartime rationing, they would create a dining legacy?

Fast forward to 1976! After Earl passed away, his son Norman stepped in, and that’s when the magic began. Diners were clamouring for those delicious rolls, but they weren’t getting them fast enough. So, in a genuinely comical turn, one brave diner shouted, “Throw the Damn Thing!” And just like that, the iconic “Throwed Rolls” tradition was born! Can you imagine rolls flying across the room? It cranked up the excitement in the dining area to a whole new level!

Things took a turn for the better in 1981 when they relocated to a larger and improved location. They did this while maintaining that friendly, welcoming spirit. Norman poured his heart into designing this new restaurant. He ensured it was not only efficient for the staff but also a pleasure for all diners. The place became a well-oiled machine, all for the love of good, wholesome food!

Then came the big leap! On March 1, 1994, they opened a second Lambert’s Café near Branson, Missouri, the Country Music Capital of the World! If you find yourself heading to Branson, be sure to swing by and enjoy those flying rolls! And not to be outdone, a third location popped up in Foley, Alabama, in 1996. Each spot shares that same delightful food, service, and unmistakable charm.

Now, let me take you inside Lambert’s! It’s not just a meal; it’s an experience. Sure, we had to wait in line, but they kept us entertained with an on-site store filled with quirky memorabilia. The anticipation only added to the thrill! Once seated, oh boy! Forget the usual restaurant rules!

At Lambert’s, the thrill begins when you raise your hands, not for the check, but to catch those hot rolls soaring through the air like a prized catch!

Let’s not forget the main course … my human chose chicken fried steak with a side of mashed potatoes and corn. When it comes to the main courses, Lambert’s certainly does not skimp. They put plenty on the plate to take away every hunger pang.

In addition to the main course and the delicious rolls, servers circulate throughout the dining room. They carry large pots of various side dishes.

The pass-around offerings include fried potatoes seasoned to perfection, macaroni and tomatoes, addictive fried okra, hot boiled cabbage and black-eyed peas, to name a few.  They’ll stop at your table and offer generous portions of these complementary extras. Not sample sizes, mind you, but heaping scoops that threaten to overwhelm your already crowded table.

Experiencing Lambert’s is like going to Sunday dinner at Grandma’s house: you leave a couple of belt sizes larger than when you arrived, and you best not complain that you didn’t have enough to eat.

The visit to Lambert’s was phenomenal and will definitely make it to my list for future family travel.  Thank you, Sonny and Angie, for the surprise.

If you ever find yourself near Ozark, Missouri, or even in Sikeston, do yourself a favour and make a pit stop at Lambert’s Café I or II.

You won’t just enjoy good food; you’ll be part of a fun-loving community ready to toss some rolls and share a hearty laugh! It’s a perfect spot for a family outing, with a warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes everyone feel at home.

They declared it the finest tuna they’d ever had, now that’s sayin’ somethin’ comin’ from seasoned travellers like them!

  • War Eagle Mill – Rogers, Arkansas

War Eagle Mill – Rogers, Arkansas

What a splash-tacular adventure I had at War Eagle Mill in Rogers, Arkansas! As Bob the Rubber Duck, I couldn’t have chosen a more delightful spot to float along. I soaked in a fabulous mix of history, nature, and mouthwatering flavours.

This enchanting mill, with its origins dating back to the 1830s, stands as a true historical gem nestled in the stunning Ozarks.

The soothing sound of War Eagle Creek paired with the lush greenery surrounding me. It provided the perfect backdrop for a break during an exhilarating ride during Badger Bash.

Imagine Sylvanus Blackburn arriving in War Eagle Valley back in 1832, I can vividly picture the breathtaking scenery that welcomed him!

Sylvanus and his family discovered a peaceful paradise beside the War Eagle River, gazing out over the majestic Ozark Mountains.

I float along, daydreaming about the brave Blackburn family setting up camp under a starlit sky. The echoes of distant mountain lions serenaded their nights.

What an adventure that must have been! Once they built their two-story home, along with that charming grist mill, they transformed the valley into a bustling hub of activity.

The mill was alive with excitement, a gathering place where families would come not just to mill but to share stories, trade, and reconnect with friends. The Blackburns even added a sawmill and a general store. There was also a multipurpose building that served as a school and a Masonic lodge. I can only imagine the vibrant scenes that filled those days, brimming with joy and camaraderie!

But, alas, change can be cruel. During the Civil War, the mill was sadly lost to flames just before the Battle of Pea Ridge. Sylvanus, being the wise man he was, moved his family to safety. Sadly, my heart aches for Ambrose, one of his sons, who lost his life in that tumultuous time. Remarkably, the Blackburns returned after the war. They rebuilt the mill and kept their legacy alive until fire struck again in 1924.

For many years, the mill existed only as a memory until 1971. During that year, the Medlin family recognized the potential hidden within its weathered walls. With unwavering passion and dedication, they embarked on a mission to restore the mill to its former glory. I could feel the excitement bubbling in the air!

Fast forward to today, and here I am, joyfully bobbing along as visitors immerse themselves in this historical wonder. They grind organic grains to their heart’s content. With a charming restaurant and a delightful gift shop, there is truly something for everyone here.

When we ventured inside, the heavenly aroma of freshly ground cornmeal wrapped around me like a warm hug.

The shop? A delightful treasure trove bursting with local goods and artisanal products, my humans could hardly resist scooping up tasty treats to take home!

We were all hungry from our ride, so we decided to indulge in a little culinary adventure, and wow, it sure hit the spot! From a delectable bacon and tomato sandwich to a huge Chef’s salad, the entire group was satisfied!

With friendly staff who radiated enthusiasm for the mill’s history and culinary delights, we felt right at home. The soothing sounds of nature, along with breathtaking views of the creek, made our experience even more special.

So, if you find yourself in the area, don’t just waddle by, hop on over to War Eagle Mill for a delightful escape where you can enjoy fresh, locally-produced meals in a stunning setting.

    Cliffside Cafe – Noel, Missouri

What a splashing good time we had at Cliffside Café in Noel, Missouri!

Quack-tastic moments were made even better because we were stopping in during a ride with the Support Bikers group during Badger Bash. The atmosphere was lively, filled with laughter and camaraderie. Everyone shared stories of the morning ride and activity over a delicious meal.

As soon as my humans and I waddled up to the counter, we were greeted by Bob, the owner. How lucky is that to share a name with the big duck in charge?

He took a special interest in us. He seemingly moved our order up in priority, which meant we were served lightning fast! I don’t know if it was my quacktastic charm or just good fortune, but we sure felt special.

While we were enjoying our speedy service, the rest of the Support Bikers group gathered around tables in the dining room. Since every dish at Cliffside is made fresh, they had to wait a bit longer. However, their laughter filled the air, proving that good company makes every meal worth the wait.

Triple Eight’s Chinese Restaurant – Springfield, Missouri

As BOB the rubber duck, I must tell you about our exciting culinary adventure at Triple Eight’s Chinese Restaurant in Springfield, Missouri!

As soon as we waddled through the doors, the inviting ambiance washed over us like a warm tide. The staff greeted us with smiles and provided phenomenal service, making the whole experience even more special.

While many in our group flirted with other menu options, my human went right for the “Sonny” selection. They trusted the culinary instincts of our friend, as any adventurous duck would!

Shrimp to beef, from rice to noodles, and fresh vegetables, all served in a variety of dishes. And I even caught a glimpse of a few diners ordering salads. Even though the buffet was overflowing with eye-catching dishes, our group of passionate bikers did not have an appetite that large on this visit.

Sonny’s taste test was a resounding success for my human and the rest of us! But listen up, aspiring chefs, if you think you can replicate this masterpiece, you might be barking up the wrong tree (or floating in the wrong pond). The recipe is strictly guarded. So plan regular trips to Springfield if you want to enjoy this culinary marvel!

For the main event, one of my humans chose the chicken wings, perfectly crispy and coated in a mouthwatering sauce. Paired with thick and delicious plank fries, it was a meal fit for a king! Of course, a refreshing beer made for a perfect accompaniment.

On the other side of the table, we had a three-cheese grilled cheese sandwich that was ooey-gooey in the best way possible. Again, with the signature plank fries on the side and a Missouri Sunrise mixture of Malibu rum blended with cranberry and orange juices. It added a splash of fruity goodness. All together, it was a plate of pure comfort.

However, that is another story… a story of hard work, dedication, and a love for all things dairy. Stensland Family Farm and Creamery – Larchwood, Iowa.

This visit was a true treat, as one of my human companions went for a scoop of blueberry cheesecake and a scoop of Butterfinger. Yum!

She was not just friendly; her dedication to making our experience perfect was evident in every interaction. It felt like being part of a big, friendly family, something every rubber duck yearns for!

We arrived between the morning and noon crowds, and my humans seemed torn between breakfast and lunch. Classic human indecisiveness, right? After a brief but friendly debate and a bit of attitude, they ultimately decided to stay friends and make different choices.

First up was the breakfast combo; the biscuit and gravy were worth the stop! The biscuit was so fluffy it could have floated away with me, a perfect ratio of crispy to pillowy goodness. Then, the creamy gravy, seasoned like a pro, was heavenly. The eggs? Cooked to perfection, and the sausages? Simply marvellous. I couldn’t help but let out a little quack of approval!

Moving on to the lunch selection, my human opted for the BLT sandwich with a side of fries. Oh, what a sight! The sandwich was stacked higher than my little rubber head, and the massive portion of fries – well, let’s say that we had two meals in one, lucky me!

But no worries! The friendly folks at the Cowboys Bar and Museum shared a hearty laugh, offered us a refreshing beer, which we politely declined, and, since we were the only patrons at that hour, treated us to a personal tour.

Imagine being transported back to the wild days of the American West, all within the cozy confines of a charming log cabin from the 1930s.

This unique setting is a goldmine of over 500 fascinating artifacts from the cowboy era, including rawhide ropes, sturdy ox yokes, and gleaming spurs.

A Family Affair Restaurant – Great Falls, Montana

Hi there, friends! Buckle up, because I, Bob the Rubber Duck, just had an unforgettable breakfast experience at A Family Affair Restaurant in Great Falls, Montana, and I can’t wait to share it with you!

Now, let me tell you about the service. A remarkable woman was juggling orders and happiness like a pro! Her warm smile was as inviting as the warm biscuits I was about to taste. She zipped around the restaurant, making sure every guest felt special, whether they were part of a family, a couple, or dining solo. It was heartwarming to see such a diverse mix of people coming together for a shared meal!  Sitting next to us were what appeared to be three generations of ladies, all sharing their excitement over the menu, which is a testament to the timeless yet modern menu choices.

Ah, the food! Let’s get to the good stuff. The biscuits and gravy platter was an absolute showstopper—a hearty helping of eggs, sausage, and hash browns paired with fluffy and heavenly cheese biscuits, smothered in a savoury gravy that had my little rubber duck heart soaring!

And then there were the Chef’s Hot Cakes.  These were not your typical hot cakes at all – the batter was infused with potato and bacon. Can you believe it? A savoury twist that was simply divine! Each bite was a delightful blend of flavours that made my beak smile from ear to ear. I was genuinely thrilled, and I’m just a duck!

The cash register was located at the irresistible bakery showcase!  My humans were too full to even finish their breakfasts, but they could not resist scooping up a giant cinnamon roll on the way out.  When they finally tried it later on that night, it was as sinful as it sounds…and worth every calorie.

The ambiance of the restaurant was like a cozy trip down memory lane. With its rustic decor, wooden accents, and charming knick-knacks, I felt right at home amid the lively chatter. It was the perfect backdrop for a hearty breakfast!

So, if you ever find yourself in Great Falls and your tummy starts to grumble, swing by A Family Affair Restaurant! You won’t just get a fantastic meal in a delightful setting—you’ll also be treated like family, even when the place is buzzing with fellow breakfast lovers. Trust me, from one rubber duck to another, you won’t regret hopping in for a visit!

  • The Antlers Restaurant – Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan

The Antlers Restaurant – Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan

This legendary establishment has quite a storied past, starting off as the Bucket of Blood Saloon during the Prohibition era. Imagine an ice cream parlour making a hefty profit of $900 while only selling a couple of cones in the month. It did not take long before the government caught wind of it. Miraculously, it emerged as a lemonade stand! Talk about a twist in history!

The Antlers has had six families involved throughout its over four generations of heritage. It was exciting to learn about the infamous Kinneys, two Detroit cops, who bartered their way into creating an impressive collection of taxidermy that adorns the walls and ceilings. The Szabo family now carries on this tradition. They ensure that The Antlers remains a family-owned landmark.

Today, Northern Michigan folks gather at The Antlers. They share stories, play some cards and lift their glasses to the stories of the past.

And if you’re into ghost stories, The Antlers even had its moment in the spotlight on A&E’s Biography channel when they explored its haunted legends. Just imagine the excitement of dining among tales of the past!

I had the pleasure of sampling their fish and chips, as well as the classic hamburger and fries. The fish and chips were delightfully crispy and golden brown, served with a side of tangy tartar sauce. Each bite was a delightful crunch that echoed the thrill of a good hunt! The freshness of the fish, paired with perfectly seasoned fries, made for a meal that was simply outstanding.

The hamburger and fries, on the other hand, were a hearty and satisfying option. Juicy and flavorful, it was cooked to perfection and served on a fluffy bun. The fries were crisp and seasoned just right, giving that nostalgic comfort that everyone loves. You really can sense the “Up North” tradition in each mouthful: rustic, homey, and made with passion.

So, if you’re in the area and craving a meal filled with heart, character, and a dash of history, don’t miss your chance to visit The Antlers Restaurant. Whether you’re there for the stories or the scrumptious Northern Michigan cuisine, you’re in for a quacking good time! Grab a table, soak in the ambiance, and don’t forget to try the poutine while you’re at it. Just trust me on this one!

  • The Waffle House – Key Largo and Sarasota, Florida

The Waffle House – Key Largo and Sarasota, Florida

As BOB the rubber duck, I’ve had my share of adventures, but one of the most memorable was when my humans decided to take a road trip through the sunny Florida Keys. One early morning, after a night of floating under the stars, I noticed my humans were getting a bit grumpy due to hunger, and the rain had started to sprinkle down. That’s when they spotted a Waffle House in Key Largo!

Now, I’ve heard whispers in the bubble bath about Waffle House being a magical place with incredible breakfasts, so I was thrilled for my first visit! As we waddled in, we were greeted by the warm aroma of coffee and sizzling food. My humans settled in, and I perched proudly on the table, ready for the feast to begin.

First came the piping hot coffee and tea to warm our souls.

Then fluffy, golden, and oh-so-delicious waffles, my human couldn’t stop raving about them. The sausages made the perfect sidekick, adding a delightful crunch to the meal.

Meanwhile, my other human was enjoying a BLT sandwich stuffed with crispy bacon that seemed to sizzle with joy. With the sides of hashbrowns and mushrooms—a true breakfast treat!

But the real highlight? The staff at Waffle House! They were like a family, buzzing around with huge smiles and an infectious energy that made everyone feel right at home.

Their friendliness and teamwork were something special; it was a joy to watch them serve with such enthusiasm. With our bellies full and hearts happy, we left with a glimmering positive image of this franchise, feeling as if we were part of their warm and welcoming family.

Fast forward two weeks, and the journey carried us from Fort Myers, Florida, all the way to Ontario, Canada. After an hour on the road, my humans were on the lookout for another breakfast stop. Lo and behold, another Waffle House sign appeared, and excitement bubbled up inside me! We followed the signs to the Sarasota location, eager for round two.

This time, the place was buzzing with activity! From the moment we entered, it was clear this crew knew how to hustle. Customers were greeted warmly, many by name—talk about impressive! The staff was synchronized like a well-oiled machine, and I couldn’t help but bob along as they shouted orders and expertly delivered meals at warp speed.

Just like the Key Largo location, the food was fantastic, and the experience was even better than the food at Sarasota. My humans and I felt right at home, soaking in the lively atmosphere. Once again, leaving with smiles on our faces, ready for more Waffle House adventures on future travels.

So here’s the scoop—if you’re ever passing a Waffle House, don’t hesitate! You might find yourself enjoying an unforgettable breakfast, accompanied by fantastic staff and a whole lot of warmth (and maybe a rubber duck too)!
