As I waddled into the head office, factory, and outlet of this chocolate paradise, I was greeted by an enthusiastic young lady. But it still showcases an exciting array of tasty options, ensuring there’s something for every chocolate lover.

I couldn’t resist the allure of those ‘grab bags’ filled with broken pieces for a steal: buy two, get one free! These had me squealing with joy at each unexpected find!

Oh, let me tell you about the cherries! They were heavenly, with a glossy cherry-red coating that perfectly complemented the tart cherry flavour. Talk about a flavour explosion!

The Chocolate Seafoam was a crunchy revelation, like biting into a sponge toffee cloud with one corner dipped in rich chocolate. I could easily have gobbled up the entire bag!

When we gifted our friend the little triangle of chocolate favourites, the look on her face was priceless, pure joy and amazement!

So, if you can’t waddle to Burnaby and experience this sweet escapade, don’t fret! Head to one of the 45 Rocky Mtn Chocolate locations sprinkled across Canada. Treat yourself to a chocolatey adventure that’ll make you feel like a kid again.

Downtown Sidney – Sidney, British Columbia

What a quack-tastic morning I had exploring the charming waterfront area of Sidney, BC!

My humans were visiting the beautiful Victoria area on Vancouver Island, and we booked a ferry ride back to the mainland departing from this little gem of a town.

As I floated down those delightful streets, I couldn’t help but ponder Sidney’s rich history; turns out it was ferry central for foot traffic since 1912, and then upgraded to automobile ferries in 1922! Can you imagine all the folks who waddled these streets before me?

But, just as we started our quest, the heavenly aroma of freshly baked goodies swept through the air. My humans, unable to resist the scent, led us on a quick detour to Sidney Bakery.

Oh my quack, the choices were endless! They finally settled on some unique and scrumptious pastries, and I was on cloud nine, floating with excitement.

Next up was Alexander’s Coffee Bar, and what a treat it was! The coffee was brewed to perfection, one of my humans even transformed theirs into a latte! Now that’s what I call a classy start to the day.

After indulging our eyes with this stunning scenery, we made our way to the Surly Mermaid for lunch. Oh, what a quirky spot it was!

The food was simply out of this world, and I could practically taste the happiness radiating from my humans as they savoured every bite.

As excited as I was for our next adventure, I felt a twinge of sadness saying goodbye to such a lovely and welcoming place.

As we boarded the ferry back to Vancouver, I couldn’t help but quack with glee about the wonderful memories we’d created. Here’s to even more adventures and quack-tastic moments in the future!

I float in my cozy corner, catching glimpses of those gleeful little faces taking their first tastes. Let me tell you, I can almost savour the joy right along with them! But caution alert!

Although I was hoping for a cozy spot in an actual nest (hey, I’m a duck, after all!), I was thrilled to discover this charming shop filled with beautiful creations by talented Canadian artisans. From hand-crafted pottery to stunning jewelry and delicious preserves, it’s a feast for the eyes! I enjoy watching humans marvel at the colourful displays while I float nearby. The creative energy that fills the air is invigorating.

As we strolled back to our car, I drifted along the docks, admiring the unique float homes lining the waterway. Oh, how splendid and colourful they are! They tug at my heartstrings while I respectfully honour the privacy of their residents. Just imagine living in those whimsical floating abodes! I can picture the breathtaking views and the friendly waves from their cozy homes, each a little slice of life on the water.

  • Chinatown – Victoria, British Columbia

    Chinatown – Victoria, British Columbia

Hello, my fabulous friends! It’s your squishy sidekick, Bob the Rubber Duck, here to quack my way through another thrilling escapade.  This time in the colourful Chinatown of Victoria, British Columbia! Quack-quack! Join me as we dive into a vibrant blend of history, culture, and modern charm in this extraordinary locale.

Nestled right in the beating heart of Victoria, Chinatown is not just a neighbourhood; it’s a treasure chest of stories, making it one of the oldest in all of Canada, with roots dating back to the bustling 1850s. Imagine a time when brave Chinese immigrants landed here during the gold rush, ready to carve out their dreams!

They brought with them their traditions, skills, and a hearty spirit, transforming this area into a lively hub bursting with shops, eateries, and cultural gems. Can you picture the hustle and bustle of that era? It was alive with excitement, and the echoes of those pioneering days still resonate through the streets today!

But every tale has its ups and downs. The Chinese community in Victoria faced some turbulent waters with significant hardships, discrimination, and exclusion over the years.

However, in 2019, a wave of hope washed over the community when the City of Victoria extended a heartfelt apology for past injustices. This sincere acknowledgment was not just a gesture; it was a powerful statement of reconciliation and inclusivity. Isn’t it uplifting to see how far we’ve come together?

Now, let’s float into the vibrant present! As you step into this delightful neighbourhood, you can’t miss the stunning Gate of Harmonious Interest.

Erected in 1981 as part of a revitalization effort led by the City of Victoria and the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, this impressive gate stands at a towering 38 feet, adorned with intricate red and gold decorations symbolizing unity and harmony. Talk about a grand entrance!

Engraved on the gate are two heartfelt inscriptions: “To work together with one heart” and “To help each other achieve harmony.” These words are a beautiful tribute to the collaboration between Chinese and non-Chinese communities during its creation.

And let’s not forget the mighty stone lions flanking the entrance, generously donated by Victoria’s sister city of Suzhou.

Inside the gate’s outer red pillars, there are not one but two time capsules, set to be opened in 2081 and 2096! Plus, a plaque commemorates the brave 61 Chinese Canadians who made the ultimate sacrifice during World War II. This isn’t just a photo op; it’s a gateway to the past and the future!

Now, as I waddle down the enchanting Fan Tan Alley, which happens to be the narrowest commercial street in all of North America (seriously, it’s less than 3 feet wide at its skinniest!), I can’t help but soak in the vibrant energy around me.

Once infamous for opium factories and gambling dens, this alley has undergone a thrilling revival. In the early 1900s, it bustled with life, but police raids and changing tides led to its decline. By the 1970s and 80s, the alley was sparkling anew, transformed into what we can experience today!

I breathe in the delightful scents wafting from the many eateries as I paddle past colourful murals and charming boutiques. My humans found some truly unique treasures to bring back to our cozy nest.

Oh, and let me tell you about the culinary adventure we embarked upon at Little Yunnan, where one of my humans experienced the legendary Crossing the Bridge Noodle meal for the very first time—delicious doesn’t even begin to cover it!

Whether you’re on the hunt for quirky gifts, indulging in scrumptious bites, or simply revelling in the rich culture surrounding you, Chinatown in Victoria is a delightful treasure trove brimming with experiences waiting to be uncovered. So, let’s paddle over, enjoy the eclectic shops, and celebrate this beautiful tapestry of history and modern life!

Your adventure awaits, and I promise you’ll leave with memories as vibrant as the colourful lanterns illuminating this enchanting neighbourhood! Quack on and let the fun begin!

  • St. Anne’s Log Church – Parksville, British Columbia

St. Anne’s Log Church – Parksville, British Columbia

This charming little church is a testament to the pioneering spirit of the early settlers, who sought a community gathering place during a time when the vastness of the island felt somewhat lonely.

The story begins in 1893, when the spirited Rev. Canon Charles Cooper made his way from England to Canada in search of the perfect spot for a church.

After a journey through Victoria, Nanaimo, and Port Alberni, he set his sights on French Creek.

With the community’s help and a bit of engineering magic, construction began on April 17, 1894.

Imagine the scene: oxen hauling logs and a lively group of settlers working together, all with a dream of a place to worship and gather.

As I float along, I can’t help but admire the craftsmanship that went into the log structure and the details of the church itself.

On June 24 of that same year, the walls of St. Anne’s rose as if reaching for the heavens, and by July 26, the finishing touches were complete, just in time for St. Anne’s Day!

Picture a joyful picnic on the grounds, where people who had travelled from afar shared laughter and stories, surrounded by the beauty of the island they now called home.

With each visit, one can feel the echoes of history: the first wedding in 1896, memorials for pioneers laid to rest, and the community gatherings that have taken place within its walls.

As a rubber duck who loves a good story, I cherish the tales of the past that define this lovely church and the people who built it.

Parksville Community Park – Parksville, British Columbia

Bob here to take you on an adventure through the delightful Parksville Community Park on Vancouver Island!

I recently floated my way over to this enchanting spot, and I couldn’t wait to share my colourful experience with you!

As I waddled along the beautiful shoreline, I watched humans skipping stones across the water. Laughter rang through the air as they created delightful splashes. Oh, how I wished I could join in on the fun, but I was content just bobbing along!

My morning began with a warm cup of coffee, well, not for me, but for my human friends, at one of the cozy sitting areas. The park is dotted with benches that offer a perfect view of the breathtaking landscapes. In addition, while sipping their brew, my companions and I took a moment to soak in the beauty around us.

Established in 1963, the park has a charming backstory. It includes a humble beginning thanks to the efforts of the women from the Parksville Women’s Institute.

Their determination transformed this beautiful waterfront area into the recreational haven it is today. Just beyond the playground, you can almost feel the echoes of history mingling with the breezy air.

Whether you’re in the mood for a peaceful day by the water, some fun stone-skipping, or want to people-watch while soaking in the natural beauty, Parksville Community Park is the place to be!

My humans and I were off visiting family and exploring this picturesque city when we made a splash at the Inner Harbour, ready to meet our water taxi tour captain. What a breathtaking spot for a leisurely harbour stroll!

The Inner Harbour has been a crucial hub for over a century, bustling with activity since the first settlers paddled their way to these shores.

With its stunning waterfront and historic architecture, like the iconic Fairmont Empress hotel, it’s a fabulous place that resounds with the tales of sailors, explorers, and Indigenous heritage.

Bobbing and weaving through the gentle waves, I can’t help but imagine the countless stories this water has cradled!

Drifting along, the mesmerizing views feel like a calming embrace from the sea.

The lush greenery of Beacon Hill Park nudges the shore, while sailboats dance gracefully across the water, creating a serene backdrop that brings the Inner Harbour to life.

Those majestic Parliament Buildings? They stand proudly at the center, a testament to Victoria’s rich history!

Floating around, I spotted friendly locals and curious visitors strolling, biking, and, like me, savouring the fresh sea air along the delightful promenade.

The smiles and laughter filled the air like music, reminding us all to cherish every little moment.

We were on the lookout for buskers enchanting the passersby with music, magic, and dance, but alas, we arrived a tad too early for that jubilant show!

Ah, the Inner Harbour is a veritable feast for the senses! Restaurants and cafes line the waterfront, tempting your taste buds with everything from fresh seafood to scrumptious pastries.

Shoutout to Lost Things Jewelry, where you’ll find one-of-a-kind pieces crafted from past and present Canadian coins!

Each item tells a captivating Canadian story. My human had a tough time choosing just one, but she keeps peeking online for a perfect find!

You must swing by Salvatore Glass Studio! Here, we marvelled at the spectacular creations of Dan Salvatore, whose stunning glass artworks reflect the vibrant spirit of Victoria—both on and off the water!

From whimsical nightlights to intricate dishware, you can feel the love poured into each piece! My human couldn’t resist snagging a dazzling glass wave to bring back to Winnipeg. Quack-tastic choice!

The tender pasta wrapped around a luscious blend of shrimp, scallops, and other seafood available on that day was all steeped in a rich rose cream sauce. Bringing everything together beautifully.

It was as if I had caught a glimpse into the ocean’s bounty, a true treasure that lifted me a little higher in my seat!

The perfectly cooked penne intertwined with spicy chorizo and earthy mushrooms created a delicious symphony.

Each forkful was a mouthwatering delight, making me dream of waddling back to the kitchen for seconds. For that matter, maybe even thirds, who’s counting?

When drizzled with their sumptuous marinara sauce, it felt like a warm hug wrapping around me after a long day of paddling through the pond.

The round pasta, generously stuffed with a savoury mix of seasoned meat, was topped with a robust rose tomato sauce. This sauce whispered secrets of family traditions.

Every dish filled my humans far before the plate was cleaned, but they were not leaving one morsel behind. It was “ducky” bags for all, so the entire meal will be enjoyed again at home.

Add Anton’s Pasta as a must-visit when drifting through Burnaby!

With a menu filled with mouthwatering dishes and a team that welcomes you with open arms, it’s a dining experience that no rubber duck (or human) should miss!

  • Country Cafe – Ellensburg, Washington

    Country Cafe – Ellensburg, Washington

Bob here to tell you about my culinary adventure at the charming Country Cafe in Ellensburg, Washington. If you’re ever in the area, this spot is a must-visit, trust me, even a rubber duck like me knows where to find the good grub!

As soon as I waddled up to the table, I was enveloped in an atmosphere that felt like a warm hug from an old friend. The blend of historic charm and modern flair certainly washed over me like a gentle stream. You could practically hear the café whispering stories from yesteryears while celebrating the joy of the present, a sound I found utterly delightful!

Now, let’s dive into the service, which was as refreshing as a morning splash! Our server greeted us with a smile as bright as a sunny day. She was not just friendly; her dedication to making our experience perfect was evident in every interaction. It felt like being part of a big, friendly family, something every rubber duck yearns for!

We arrived between the morning and noon crowds, and my humans seemed torn between breakfast and lunch. Classic human indecisiveness, right? After a brief but friendly debate and a bit of attitude, they ultimately decided to stay friends and make different choices.

First up was the breakfast combo; the biscuit and gravy were worth the stop! The biscuit was so fluffy it could have floated away with me, a perfect ratio of crispy to pillowy goodness. Then, the creamy gravy, seasoned like a pro, was heavenly. The eggs? Cooked to perfection, and the sausages? Simply marvellous. I couldn’t help but let out a little quack of approval!

Moving on to the lunch selection, my human opted for the BLT sandwich with a side of fries. Oh, what a sight! The bacon was crispy, paired with lettuce and tomato that seemed to be freshly picked – oh so delicious. The sandwich was stacked higher than my little rubber head, and the massive portion of fries – well, let’s say that we had two meals in one, lucky me!

If you’re ever floating through Ellensburg, whether you’re a local or a traveller like me, be sure to paddle your way over to this hidden gem. You won’t regret it, and I’m already dreaming of my next visit. Who knew dining could be this much fun? Until next time, keep quacking and keep eating!

Doc Holliday’s Roadhouse – Williston, North Dakota

As Bob the Rubber Duck, I may not fit the mold of your ordinary diner. However, trust me, this place is downright splash-tastic!

But as I rolled closer, I realized these were no ordinary buffalo; they were life-sized metal sculptures, glistening in the sun.

The scene felt like a page from the Wild West, complete with cowboys, Indians, and even a stagecoach!

The walls proudly display over 1,000 cowboy boots, each with a story to tell.  Hand-painted cow skulls and license plates from all over the U.S.A. add to the charm.

His eyes sparkled as he shared the stories behind each quirky adornment. Furthermore, his passion for unique items that spark joy for everyone who walks through those doors was truly inspiring.

With a track record of successful dining ventures, you can bet he knows how to whip up a good time!
