As we made our way through Council Bluffs, Iowa, I was beyond excited to experience the Best Western.
From the moment we arrived, the friendly staff greeted us with warm smiles that made us feel right at home.
They even offered to let us park our trusty bike and trailer under the canopy at the front entrance to keep us dry from the impending rain. Talk about quacktastic hospitality!
When we requested a first-floor room, the staff was not only accommodating but also eager to ensure our comfort. Armed with a helpful map, we were all set for our stay.
Our room was a haven of cleanliness and comfort, perfect for a little rubber duck like me!
The hotel boasted a spacious pool that looked inviting for some splashing around.
And let me tell you, the common area and breakfast nook were impressive! With comfy sofas scattered around, it is an ideal spot to relax after a long day.
Breakfast is delightful, with the staff ensuring that meticulously attended to all of us.
I watched in awe as my humans enjoyed hearty hot meals that set the tone for the day ahead.
With its stellar service, cleanliness, and cozy atmosphere, I couldn’t recommend this Best Western enough to my fellow travellers.
It was an excellent stop on our journey, and I can’t wait to quack about our delightful stay in Council Bluffs!
Oh, hello there! It’s me, BOB the Rubber Duck, paddling around the beautiful Omaha riverfront!
You know, while I’m happily floating along, I can’t help but notice something spectacular just a stone’s throw away from me – a monument dedicated to the incredible hard work of our laborers.
Let me take you on a quacky tour of this fabulous tribute!
So, right here beside me, five magnificent bronze statues stand tall. Each one of these marvels is a whopping eight feet high!
They’re not just standing still, mind you; they’re in action, pouring refreshing water from gigantic ladles straight from an old refinery.
This beauty was unveiled on Labour Day in 2004, and has been waving hello for nearly 21 years now! Talk about a legacy!
Now, let’s talk craftsmanship! The talented sculptor Matthew Placzek poured his heart and soul into this creation. He says this monument…
embodies the “dignity, determination, and dedication of the American workforce.”
Standing proud at a staggering 30 feet tall, this glorious structure has withstood quite a bit.
It survived the massive flood of 2011 like a true champion, even when the Missouri River crested at over 36 feet! What a badge of honour for its resilience!
And guess what? It recently got a fabulous makeover! With new paint, a nice sandblasting, and a sparkling refurbishment of the water feature, it looks as fresh as a daisy!
Imagine a bright, sunny day, and with The Tribute to Labor sparkling in the sunlight!
The glory of Omaha’s vibrant $325 million riverfront project, has caught the eyes many visitors.
People from all walks of life have stopped by the Tribute to Labor paying homage to the working-class heroes who built this great city.
It warms my little rubber heart to see everyone appreciating the dedication of those who’ve shaped Omaha!
What makes this monument truly special?
It’s a salute to the hard-working men and women who have put their hands to the grind to create a better tomorrow. Inspired by the legendary Terry Moore and his partners, this sculpture brilliantly showcases the spirit of teamwork between business, labor, and government. Indeed, a heavenly homage to hard work, indeed!
And talking about numbers, this isn’t just a lightweight! Each of those five bronze figures weighs around 800 pounds!
Those massive ladles?
The ladles tip the scales at an incredible 6,000 pounds each! In total, the whole structure weighs a mind-blowing 541,582 pounds: almost 271 tons!
Just think of the splashes I could make with that kind of weight!
Before you float away, don’t miss out on “Union Walk” just south of the monument! It’s lined with plaques that celebrate the essential contributions of organized labour throughout Omaha’s rich history.
It’s perfect for a leisurely stroll, allowing everyone to reflect on how this wonderful city and its unions have flourished together since the mid-1800s along the banks of the great Missouri River.
As we enjoy this Labor Day weekend, let’s take a moment to appreciate the sweat, challenges, and sometimes even the sacrifices made by our tradespeople who bring our world to life.
Quack, quack, my friends! Buckle up for a splashing adventure as I take you on a journey to Stensland Family Farm and Creamery in the delightful Larchwood, Iowa! Now, I might not be your average farm visitor, but you better believe I was ready to dive right into the fun and flavours that this charming place has to offer!
Our adventure began when my curious humans introduced me to a delightful scoop at the Stensland ice cream store in Sioux Falls, Iowa. Oh, the very thought of a 12-mile road trip to the farm had my rubbery heart doing flips. Let me tell you, we were in for a delightful treat!
As we waddled our way up to the farm, the first sight that met our eyes was the enchanting on-site store.
Guess what? It operates on the honour system! Yes, you heard that right! Customers can grab what they want and drop their payment into a box. That’s what I call a trusting spirit!
My humans, hailing from small towns, were taken back to simpler times. It was reminiscent of days when you’d leave the keys in the car and locking doors was merely a suggestion.
I floated around, amazed by the bounty of local treasures: creamy cheeses, scrumptious ice creams, and quirky farm-themed goods just waiting to be enjoyed!
And how could I forget about Leyla, the cow statue that greets each visitor right outside the store? She provides the perfect backdrop for some quacktastic photos. Moreover, she serves as a poignant reminder of the love and heart that have been poured into everything at Stensland Family Farm.
Now, let me tell you about the incredible blend of old-world charm and futuristic farming happening at Stensland! This isn’t just any ordinary farm; the Stensland family has been crafting dairy excellence for generations. And you won’t believe this, how about cows almost milking themselves? Yep, you heard me right!
Meet “Daisy,” the superstar cow! She waltzes into the milking area, where her unique identifier is transmitted to a computer via Bluetooth. Talk about high-tech mooing! If it’s her turn for milking, she’s lured in by a delightful concoction of sweet feed. Then, the magic unfolds! A robotic arm swings into action. It gives Daisy a clean-up before those milking cups come on to do their job for seven minutes. Once done, the cups retract, and she happily rejoins her herd. Now that’s what I call efficiency!
And the fun doesn’t stop there: the fresh milk is transformed into velvety ice creams and tantalizing cheeses. Oh, such excitement brewed within this little rubber duck as I learned about the ice cream-making process! Just picture it: smooth, swoon-worthy flavours spun from the very essence of happy cows. There’s something for every taste bud!
Stensland Family Farm is a brilliant example of modern advancements marrying the warm traditions of farming.
I watched in awe as the Stensland family made farming look not just delicious but accessible and inviting! The atmosphere buzzes with warmth, and let’s not forget those tasty treats that whisk you back to good old-fashioned farm fun.
As I paddled my way out, I couldn’t resist making a pit stop at the store for an ice cream sandwich and some squeaky fresh cheese curds. I filled out my receipt, dropped my payment in the box (quack, quack!), and floated on with a heart full of joy and belly full of treats.
So here’s a big quack to the Stensland Family Farm and Creamery for transforming what could have been just another day on the farm. It turned into a fantastic flavour-filled adventure! If you’re anywhere near Larchwood, Iowa, you must stop by. You won’t regret a single delicious moment! Until next time, my friends, keep waddling into adventure!
Waddle on over, friends! Let me share my recent adventure at Quaker Steak in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where I met up with Jared Joshua and his wonderful family.
The nostalgia of Quaker gas stations, fast cars, and shiny motorcycles fueled the vibrant energy in the air.
As we stepped inside, the ambiance was electric!
Filled with memorabilia that celebrated speed and adventure.
The walls exuded “high-octane fun” as I settled in for what would be an unforgettable feast.
To kick things off, we toasted with beverages that made my little duck heart flutter.
One of my friends enjoyed a Duck, Duck, Goose martini, delightfully garnished with a tiny rubber duck (which you know I absolutely adored!).
My other friend chose a cold, crisp beer that paired perfectly with his appetite.
Now, let’s dive into the food! We started with loaded potato skins piled high with delicious toppings: crispy bacon, gooey cheese, and a generous dollop of sour cream. Every bite left me quacking for more!
Next up was the Caesar salad, which was no ordinary salad. It was topped with flavorful garlic cheese croutons that sang in harmony with the creamy dressing.
My other human opted for the Philly cheese steak sandwich. It featured juicy beef, melted cheese, and sautéed peppers nestled inside a toasted hoagie. It was a clear hit, especially paired with crispy fries on the side.
As dinner came to a close, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for such an exhilarating dining experience.
Quaker Steak is where the taste of adventure meets the thrill of the ride. This makes it the perfect spot for families and adrenaline junkies alike. Whether you’re craving hearty comfort food or just want to soak in some high-speed ambiance, this place is simply a fantastic choice!
What an exhilarating evening I just had at the motorcycle meet-up for Support Bikers Nebraska in the delightful town of Elmwood!
As I waddled into the transformed fire hall, the place buzzed with camaraderie and positivity, all thanks to the sensational Jared Joshua.
This guy is like the ultimate magnet for people, and his grilling prowess? Absolutely legendary!
When the mouthwatering aroma of sizzling smokies danced in the air, the bikers lined up with appetites piqued. Jared, along with his amazing family, ensured that no bike enthusiast left with an empty stomach.
Honestly, it was heartwarming to watch everyone come together, sharing belly laughs and engaging tales.
The atmosphere bubbling with friendship and support.
I had a blast rallying some brave riders to snap photos with me!
Dressed head-to-toe in their leather gear, they embraced my quirky charisma, adding a splash of fun to the already jubilant evening.
The bond among the attendees was electric, their encouragement and shared passion truly filled my little rubber heart with joy.
Support Bikers, guided by the dynamic Sonny and Angie Badger, is a wonderful community built by riders for riders. This group is dedicated to connecting bikers worldwide!
My good human pal, Rick, serves as a national ambassador for Support Bikers, overseeing a few states including Nebraska.
Meanwhile, Jared, the state ambassador for Nebraska, is also a member of motorcycle-ordained pastors!
Witnessing the blessings bestowed on several bikes was a spiritually uplifting moment that added a unique touch to the festivities.
As the event wound down, I felt wrapped in a warm cloak of community spirit and happiness.
It’s not merely about the motorcycles; it’s the connections we forge and the memories we create along the journey.

After seating us with care, he took the time to learn about our journey.
He even took the time to suggest BOBortunities in Sioux Falls.
On to the star of the show: the food!
One human couldn’t resist the chicken and waffles. The perfectly seasoned and breaded chicken strips could challenge any chicken out there! Paired with rich pecan butter and sweet maple syrup, it was a breakfast masterpiece, simply mouthwatering!
My other human chose the Spinach and Tomato Omelette. Stuffed to the brim with fresh spinach, juicy tomatoes, asparagus, and a heavenly twist of smoked Gouda cheese. And don’t get me started on the perfectly toasted sourdough bread and crispy hashbrowns, what a feast! My human was so enamoured of the flavours that she wished she could have polished off every last bite.
And me, well, I thought I would start my day floating in a mimosa….what a great way to say good morning!
In a nutshell, stopping by the Phillips Avenue Diner turned out to be one of the best decisions of our journey.

Bob here, ready to take you on a tasty journey to Stensland Family Farms Ice Cream and Country Store, just a short drive from the heart of Sioux Falls, South Dakota!
If you ever thought that ice cream was just a treat, you haven’t seen anything until you’ve waddled through this delightful place!
Stensland Family Farms is a charming country store, a paradise for ice cream lovers, with a whopping 48 fabulous flavours of ice cream just waiting to be scooped!

And it’s not just ice cream-they also offer regular shakes, boozy shakes (oh la la!), and a variety of delicious dairy products: milk, butter, and cheesy curds that will make your heart sing!
The unique discovery we made is that the store is only part of the overall business.
Stensland Family Farm is exactly how it sounds: a family farm that has expanded to producing their own dairy-based products from the milk on their Iowa farm.
Every Wednesday, it’s like magic in the air as they launch a new ice cream flavour!
This visit was a true treat, as one of my human companions went for a scoop of blueberry cheesecake and a scoop of Butterfinger. Yum!
My other human was equally excited, opting for a scoop of lemon poppyseed paired with cherry nut.
Talk about a flavour adventure! I watched them enjoy each delectable bite with glee—if I had taste buds, I would have quacked for joy!
And let’s not forget the treasures we picked up from the store!
We snagged some of those ooey-gooey cheese curds that were simply delicious. It’s a great feeling knowing that everything comes from local farms, eggs, honey, you name it.

Bob here to share my fantastic adventure at the Sioux Falls Battleship Memorial!
Tucked away in beautiful Sioux Falls, South Dakota, this memorial is a treasure trove of history that left me quacking with excitement.
As I paddled closer to the memorial, I could almost feel the echoes of the past reverberating in the air.
This isn’t just any memorial; it’s a tribute to the brave souls who served on the USS South Dakota during World War II!
The battleship itself was a mighty fortress in the Pacific. It partook in significant battles, earning 13 battle stars for its valiant efforts.
Just imagine the thrill of navigating through intense naval warfare.
Battling the forces of nature and enemy fleets with unwavering courage was a unique experience!
One of the most remarkable things about the Battleship Memorial is how it recreates the entire surface of the ship.
Standing on the deck, even for a little rubber duck like me, was an exhilarating experience!
The detailed craftsmanship of the deck made me feel as if I was right there. I was experiencing the waves crashing against the hull, hearing the commanding orders, and feeling the camaraderie of the crew.
Walking on the meticulously designed surface, I hopped from one spot to another. I imagined the sailors bustling about, swabbing the deck, manning the guns, and sharing stories amid the salty sea air!
The memorial features a comprehensive museum filled with artifacts and educational displays that truly bring the battleship’s history to life.
As I floated through the exhibits, I discovered fascinating stories about the ship’s construction. From its missions to the brave individuals who served aboard, no details were left out.
Pictures, uniforms, and equipment transported me back to a time of valour and sacrifice.
The multimedia presentations were engagingand taught about the ship’s role in pivotal battles such as the Battle of Santa Cruz and the Battle of the Philippine Sea, events that shaped the course of history!
One of my favourite spots was the interactive display where visitors could listen to firsthand accounts from veterans.
The dedication behind this memorial is evident everywhere you look. It reminds us of the hard-fought battles and the spirit of resilience that lives on through their stories.
If you ever find yourself in Sioux Falls, don’t hesitate to visit this splendid Battleship Memorial.
It’s not only an impressive monument to naval history, but a heartfelt salute to those who fought for freedom.
With each quack and bob I made, I felt an overwhelming sense of respect for these heroes and a newfound appreciation for the salty tales of the sea.
Come for the history, stay for the experience, and let your imagination set sail on the deck of the USS South Dakota!
Let’s dive into the delightful wonders of Falls Park in Sioux Falls, South Dakota! Oh, what a fabulous place it is, a real gem tucked away right in the heart of the city. With vibrant colours and natural beauty, this park is a playground for both nature lovers and rubber ducks alike!
As I floated along the Big Sioux River, my eyes sparkled with excitement at the magnificent sight of the waterfalls cascading down the rocks. The sound of water crashing and bubbling is like music to my little duck ears; it’s a symphony of nature that beckons everyone to come and explore! The falls are truly the centrepiece of the park, and I imagined myself swooshing down the sprays like a true adventurer.
Strolling through the well-kept paths, I couldn’t help but admire the surroundings and the obvious care that the community puts into keeping this park inviting and pristine.
The tranquility of the park, like a scene from a postcard, envelops you in a sense of calm and peace.
For my human companions, the park offers several well-maintained picnic areas, each with its unique charm and a perfect spot for a cozy lunch. I kept an eye out for crumbs, hoping someone might drop a snack!
Families gather to laugh and play, all while the sun shines down and the fresh air fills their lungs. It’s a lively atmosphere that fills my little duck heart with joy!
An added element to the park is the iconic Queen Bee Mill, a historic grain mill that adds a sprinkle of history to the scenic landscape. As I bobbed by, I couldn’t help but wonder about the stories those old stones might tell. The joy of discovery, combined with the natural beauty and rich history, makes Falls Park an enchanting place for everyone.
And let’s not forget about my favourite spot: the observation tower! I floated upward for a better view, and wow! From there, I could see the dazzling waterfalls, vibrant foliage, and the colourful tapestry of the park that wraps around the river.
The view from the observation tower is truly breathtaking, offering a panoramic view of the entire park. It’s a sight that truly takes your breath away: perfect for a little rubber duck with a penchant for adventure!
Talking about taking your breath away, all of a sudden, the serenity of the park was interrupted by fighter jets overhead that came from the local air base.
It was amazing to see these impressive pieces of equipment in action so close.
Whether you’re hiking the trails, snapping photos of the stunning scenery, or simply lounging by the water’s edge, Falls Park is a place that warms the heart.
It’s more than just a park; it’s a celebration of nature, community, and the joy of being alive.
It’s a place where you feel connected and part of something bigger.
When in Sioux Falls, don’t miss the chance to visit this magical park! Join the fun and let your spirit soar among the waterfalls!

This vibrant city also boasts a treasure trove of artistic acumen, and the community knows how to celebrate its cultural diversity!
One of the highlights of my recent adventure was the amazing Sculpture Walk downtown. A fabulous free outdoor art gallery beckoning you to explore every nook and cranny of the area.

When near Sioux Falls, I highly recommend taking a leisurely float through their delightful downtown area to soak in the Sculpture Walk.
In January 2025, I had the most fabulous experience at Acapulco Mexican Restaurant in Fargo, North Dakota. We couldn’t resist stopping by again for lunch on our road trip to Eureka Springs, Arkansas, in June.
When it’s this spectacular, you have to dive in twice!
We happened to visit on Father’s Day. The parking lot was packed, buzzing with families celebrating their amazing dads who were indulging in a delicious taste of Mexico. The atmosphere was not just electric, it was a full-blown fiesta!
As we waddled through the door, it felt like a warm embrace from the Acapulco family. What thrilled me the most? My BOB sticker had become a shining star on display in a prime location!
I nearly floated away with glee, feeling like a cherished member of the Acapulco family.
Once again, we started with the never-ending bowl of homemade tortilla chips! Crunch-crunch, these crunchy delights are absolute perfection, dancing joyfully with zesty salsa! Each dip feels like a jumping cannonball into a glorious pool of flavour, and trust me, I know a thing or two about splashes!
Then there was the array of meal choices!
Both of my humans decided to savour the scrumptious Fajita Taco Salad. With one of them choosing beef, and the other splashing in with shrimp, neither had any regrets.
The taco bowls were brimming with marinated grilled steak or juicy shrimp. Blended with a fresh veggie medley and a tangy dressing, making you lick your beak.
Taco salads are high on my list, and let me tell ya, the Acapulco version floats right up to the top!
Each bite? A fiesta carnival for the taste buds that had us bubbling with excitement!
Acapulco isn’t just a place to munch!
It’s an exhilarating fiesta of authentic Mexican culture that fills your belly and warms my rubber ducky heart! With a menu that includes a variety of tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and other Mexican delights, there’s something for every adventurous palate. The friendly service creates a vibe that’s impossible to resist!
Gather your crew, your family, or even your trusty rubber ducky, and submerge yourself in the magic of Acapulco! Believe me, you won’t want to miss this splash-tastic blend of flavour and fun!
While my humans are bundled up inside, dreaming of the open roads, I’m stuck here in the garage next to Goldie, who is just shivering away, longing for the warmth of Spring in Manitoba.
Ah, Spring! The time when the city wakes up, and humans hop back on their bikes.
But you know, it’s not just about the wind in their hair and the thrill of the ride—it’s about reminding everyone out there that we’re part of the traffic too!
Little ol’ bikes like Goldie might be smaller than cars and trucks, but that doesn’t mean we don’t deserve some love on the roads.
Every year, as the biking season kicks off, catchy billboards popping up everywhere reminding everyone that bikes are back!
But unfortunately, that’s just not enough.
Just like humans need to remember how to navigate snow-covered roads in winter with their cars, they need a refresher on how to coexist with bikes once spring rolls around.
Enter the Winnipeg Motorcycle Riders Group!
They take road safety seriously, after all, when a bike gets into a tangle, it’s not a good day for the rider or the ride!
Every Spring, Grace leads the Winnipeg Motorcycle Group in organizing the Motorcycle Awareness Ride.
This event is like a big family reunion for bikers, attracting a massive crowd of at least 200 riders who gather, share stories, and ride through the city together, eventually ending up at a neat spot for food, games, and a charity raffle!
I vividly remember May 2025. We were there, all revved up and excited at Princess Auto on the East side of the city.
The vibe was electric as we gathered to reconnect before hopping onto Goldie for a thrilling ride through the city on the Trans-Canada Highway.
Destination – the Headingly Sports Shop just outside the West perimeter in Headingly, Manitoba.
Horns were honking in support, creating a beautiful symphony of excitement as everyone signalled that the bikes were back in town!
When we arrived at Headingly Sports Shop, it felt as welcoming as a summer breeze!
Grace had pulled out all the stops: food truck, hot dog cart, axe-throwing, and fabulous raffle prizes!
We raised a staggering amount for charity, increased awareness about bikes on the road, and strengthened the bonds within our motorcycle community.
Now, as the snowflakes fall gently outside, I can’t help but smile, dreaming of the adventures that await….May 2026, here we come!
I can hardly wait to join my motorcycle friends, feel the thrill of the open road, and spread the word that we’re back in action!
So here’s to warmth, wheels, and the wonderful world of biking!
Today I am sharing a BOBortunity from the charming depths of Wayne, Alberta, a small town nestled in the picturesque Canadian Badlands.
Prepare to be captivated by the unique charm of the Last Chance Saloon.
It’s a place bursting with history, laughter, and some seriously scrumptious bites! It’s a dining experience you won’t want to miss.
Established in 1913 during the bustling coal mining boom, the Rosedeer Hotel and its delightful companion, the Last Chance Saloon, have evolved. They are lively hubs of conversation and camaraderie in what was once a thriving coal mining community.
With only 28 spirited residents remaining in the town of Wayne, this spot sure knows how to keep the spirit of the Wild West alive!
Once infamously dubbed the “Bucket of Blood” for the raucous shenanigans of miners, you can still imagine the scenario that resulted in the historic bullet holes decorating the saloon walls.
Go ahead, ask your server for a peek!
As the coal mining population swelled, the Rosedeer Coal Mining Company opened the Last Chance Saloon.
They catered to over 250 hungry and thirsty miners each day.
After a thrilling poker match, the Dayman family seized the reins and kept the cheer flowing for a staggering 65 years, talk about bar success!
In total, this beloved saloon has had only three owners in a century of warm-hearted service.
Fast forward to today!
Current owners, Dave Arsenault and Paula Sutherland, embrace the cozy charm of the Last Chance and add a smoky twist with their signature in-house smoked meats.
Not to mention, there are seven wonderfully themed hotel rooms.
The dog-friendly patio and annual music festival truly embody the spirit of community.
And a feature with local bands, delicious food, and plenty of dancing under the stars.
The menu sent my taste buds splashing with joy. It was challenging to choose.
My first human’s chose the fish and chips.
With a crispy batter and fish tender enough to please even the pickiest palate.
Pure bliss!
My other human could not resist the smoky BBQ ribs—hold on to your hats!
Smoky and succulent, they paired harmoniously with perfectly prepared homemade beans, adding a comforting touch.
And of course, I couldn’t resist a couple of perfectly crafted Caesar cocktails that danced their way to my happy little beak!
Let’s not forget about the beating heart of the saloon – Paula and her excellent choices for the staffing!
With enthusiasm that bubbles like a refreshing brook, their passion flows through every corner of the Last Chance.
The team creates an inviting atmosphere, making this the perfect spot for locals and travellers alike to gather, share hearty laughs, and enjoy the fantastic food on offer.
You’ll feel like part of the family here, welcomed with open arms.
A highlight that the group was eager to share with us is a one-of-a-kind historic bandbox. This unique musical instrument, a staple of entertainment in the early days of the Last Chance Saloon, was played for us.
It brought us back to the days of yesteryear.
A visit to the Last Chance Saloon is like hopping into a delightful time machine filled with charming history, warm faces, and mouthwatering feasts.
Whether you’re popping in for a tempting meal or simply soaking up the nostalgic vibes of this cherished establishment, it’s clear this beloved bar will shine brightly in our hearts for many quacktacular years to come!
Should you be waddling through Wayne, don’t just float by, splash into the Last Chance Saloon! You won’t regret it!

The Best Western SureStay is the perfect hub for your next journey!
What an incredible journey it has been waddling along the Trans-Canada Highway from Vancouver, BC, to Winnipeg, Manitoba!
Travelling through western Canada on this route was like floating through a patchwork quilt of stunning landscapes. Each one seemed more breathtaking than the last.
We kicked off our adventure in Vancouver. Here, the majestic coastal mountains kissed the sky, and the lush greenery enveloped us.
As we made our way east, our first stop was in Hope, BC.
The charming little town was a perfect pause. Moreover, the towering mountains around us and the rushing rivers reminded me of the rugged beauty that embodies British Columbia.
After a delightful lunch, we continued our journey and headed to Revelstoke, BC, for dinner and an overnight stay.
As we drove through the Selkirk Mountains, the landscape transformed into a captivating blend. It consisted of dense forests, mountainous terrains, and cascading waterfalls.
I floated with excitement at the sight of the snow-capped peaks glistening in the sunlight, a true highlight for any adventurer.
The next day’s drive took us across the border into Alberta and through the stunning Rocky Mountain foothills.
Next stop – an overnight stay in Drumheller.
This area was remarkable for its unique badlands, with striking red rock formations that looked like a spectacular painting.
Moving on to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, we witnessed a shift again. The terrain became flatter, with rolling fields that stretched out as far as the eye could see.
The wide-open skies filled with fluffy clouds added a serene beauty to the prairie landscape.
This was the heart of the Canadian prairies, and I enjoyed watching the farmland bring prepared for the planting season.
Finally, it was time to waddle home to Winnipeg.
By this point, I had truly experienced the diverse beauty of Canada. It spanned from the coastal mountains to the badlands and the tranquil prairies.
Each region had its charm, and I felt so lucky to witness such beauty so close to home.
As we look to the future, I can’t help but quack with anticipation for next summer’s adventure on the East Coast!
I’m eager to explore the other half of the Trans-Canada Highway and set my sights on the Atlantic Ocean.
Our country is beautiful, filled with so many landscapes, history, and stories waiting to be told.
Today, I’m quacking about my delightful stay at The Stoke Hotel in the picturesque paradise of Revelstoke, BC. Get ready for a tale that’s as buoyant as my floaty self!
We were passing through Revelstoke on our journey back to Winnipeg from Vancouver, and once again, choosing a member of the Best Western chain of hotels did not disappoint.
From the moment we stepped into the lobby, we experienced a unique mountain town vibe. The warm welcome we received, complete with friendly smiles and a rustic atmosphere, set the tone for our entire stay.
Our room, with its private outdoor entrance, was a cozy haven that had everything we needed for a comfortable night. The impeccable cleanliness and the soft pillows made it feel like my very own nest in the mountains, giving me just what I needed to relax after a long day of travel.
Speaking of adventures, let’s hop into the outdoor hot tub! What a dreamy spot! Surrounded by majestic mountain vistas and the crisp, clean air, it was pure bliss to soak in the bubbling warmth. It was the perfect way to unwind after a day of driving, rejuvenating while gazing at the stunning backdrop, truly a duck’s paradise!
After a restful night’s sleep, we were eager to start our day with the complimentary breakfast. The breakfast room, adorned with unique murals and stained-glass windows, added a touch of history to our morning. The spread was a feast fit for a discerning rubber duck, with tasty quiche, crispy bacon, shredded hash browns, and delectable fresh muffins. I couldn’t contain my excitement as I filled my little duck belly with such delightful treats!
My stay at The Stoke Hotel in Revelstoke was nothing short of fantastic.
With its breathtaking location, incredible staff, dreamy outdoor hot tub, and a breakfast that leaves you wishing for seconds, this hotel is the perfect home base for whatever your adventure entails. Until next time, may your adventures be as buoyant as mine! Quack quack!
While hopping back to Winnipeg from Vancouver, my humans and I were cruising along when we stumbled upon an intriguing sign: HOPE, BC.
Naturally, we had to take a break in a place that promised, well, HOPE!
Upon arrival, the scenery took my little rubber duck heart by storm.
Towering mountains
Glistening waterways
Streets so pristine they could rival a duck pond!
Intricately crafted wooden carvings
We made a mental note to return for an in-depth exploration, but first, our bellies were calling for an adventure of their own.
We waddled over to a cozy, locally owned restaurant named Valley Grill.
A welcoming team of cheerful ladies greeted us with smiles that could brighten any day.
The enticing aroma of breakfast filled the air around us.
The spotless environment was perfect for a rubber duck like me.
The unique artwork on the walls truly connected the diner to the town’s spirit.
Each piece is a window into the local culture. One of my humans was so captivated that she purchased a piece to serve as a delightful reminder of our visit.
The menu at Valley Grill is the kind of honest, hearty fare you crave after a long drive.
One of my humans got a skillet packed with sausage, crisp potatoes, melty cheese, and topped with perfectly cooked over-easy eggs. Just the sight of it could make any duck’s bill water!
The other human opted for a mouthwatering perogy plate, accompanied by eggs and sausage. Every morsel was enjoyed to the fullest, and we left with our appetites fully satisfied.
After sharing healthy laughs and delightful conversations with the staff, we set off again, rejuvenated and ready for the road.
Our brief visit to Hope left us eager to return for a longer adventure the next time we explore Western Canada.
So, stay tuned, as I’m sure the next chapter in our travel tale will uncover even more of this town’s enchanting attributes!
Hey there, adventure enthusiasts! It’s your buoyant buddy, Bob the Rubber Duck, splashing into your day with an irresistible invitation to embark on a quacking good adventure at the spectacular PKOLS, formerly known as Mount Douglas Park, right in the beautiful heart of Victoria, British Columbia!
I’m bobbing happily in the sparkling waters, my yellow feathers glistening under the sun, while taking in the magnificent sight of the largest park in the Saanich area! Can you feel that thrill bubbling up inside? Dive in with me for a splash of history! Back in the mid-1800s, this very spot was a bustling hub of logging operations: imagine lumber flying down the hills to help build the vibrant city of Victoria! Then, in 1910, Captain Henry Kellett’s unofficial title “Mount Douglas” became official. But wait, hold onto your feathers, because there’s more!
In 2022, this park was lovingly returned to its original name, PKOLS, which means “white stone” in the beautiful language of the Saanich people! This incredible hill isn’t just any old mound; it’s a cultural gem that has been a gathering place for the Saanich and Lekwungen indigenous peoples for joyous celebrations through the ages. Pretty cool, right?
Now, if you’re itching for an adventure, let me tell you about the exciting trails waiting for you at PKOLS! Start your journey at the beach area parking lot and take the enchanting Irvine Trail for a scenic hike, or if you prefer a smoother ride, drive up the fully paved road to the summit. Remember, it’s not about how you get to the top; it’s about the adventure and the joy of reaching it, and trust me, this park welcomes everyone with open arms!
When we finally reached the panoramic view seating area, I couldn’t help but feel awestruck! The beauty of nature here is like a soothing balm for the soul. My humans settled in, soaking up the breathtaking views in serene silence for almost thirty minutes, simply savouring the moment. I watched as fellow adventurers of all ages arrived, each of them basking in the glory of their achievements: a stunning, sweeping view that stretched endlessly before them, inspiring a sense of wonder and awe.
As you gaze east toward the glistening Haro Strait and south to the iconic skyline of downtown Victoria, prepare for your heart to flutter with excitement! And trust me, don’t miss exploring both peaks! Each holds its own remarkable charm.
Whether you’re hiking, biking, or strolling leisurely, PKOLS truly caters to everyone, no matter your fitness level or age! It’s the ultimate picnic paradise; I guarantee that the gorgeous scenery will elevate your snacks to gourmet status, all while providing the perfect backdrop for delightful chatter and laughter!
When in the Victoria area, head on up to PKOLS (Mount Douglas Park), embrace the stunning beauty, breathe in that refreshing air, and enjoy the great outdoors! Your memories will last forever!
Hello, adventurous pals! Bob here to tell you about my splash-tastic journey to the Fort Langley Historical Site in beautiful British Columbia! Even though the sun decided to play hide-and-seek on our visit, we made waves of memories!
Now, brace yourselves as we dive into the incredible history of Fort Langley!
Founded back in 1827 by the Hudson’s Bay Company, this fort is so legendary that it earned the title of the “Birthplace of British Columbia!”
Imagine this vibrant fur trading post where Indigenous peoples and European settlers came together. They traded everything from beaver pelts to shiny metal trinkets.
It’s like a historical marketplace that would have been filled with bustling chatter and exciting exchanges!
The biggest splash in Fort Langley’s history came in 1858 during the Fraser River Gold Rush!
As swarms of miners flocked to the area like seagulls diving for chips, Governor James Douglas declared British Columbia a colony right in the heart of the Big House at Fort Langley. Talk about a moment for the history books!
Fast forward to today, and Fort Langley is a treasure trove of fun and learning for families! I waddled around the grounds, and boy, did we have a blast!
From the overhead paths, I had a duck’s-eye view of Fort Langley and all the families having a fantastic time.
Kids were laughing and learning through hands-on activities that truly brought history to life.
At the Cooperage, I discovered my hidden talent for building things: who knew I was such a crafty duck?
My human was able to help me build a bucket…how cool is that?
Next up was the fur press! This was no ordinary contraption; it’s what folks used to squish those furs tight for shipping around the globe. It made me think about all those hardworking hands that made it all happen. Phew!
The Stores Building was next on our path. This building housed everything that the Fort would sell or use in day-to-day life.
One of my absolute favourite moments was watching the blacksmith work his magic!
I felt as though we had travelled back in time as I watched him forge in the historic shop.
And guess what? He even gifted my human companions a beautifully crafted nail as a keepsake from our time at the fort. Talk about a special memento!
Finally, we reached the Big House, which was home to the fort leadership. Meetings and discussions held in this building led to decisions that changed the course of history.
Today, this building is full of memorabilia, artifacts and teachings of the history of the fort and of British Columbia
Fort Langley represents a pivotal chapter of the early relationships between colonial settlers and Indigenous peoples.
Visiting this site is like stepping into a time machine that reminds us of the vibrant journey leading to Canada’s formation.
If you ever find yourself cruising through British Columbia, make sure to splash into the magic of Fort Langley Historical Site!
Set aside plenty of time, there’s loads to explore in this beautifully preserved piece of Canadiana.
You’ll soak up fascinating history, have a whale of a time, and who knows, you might even find a few new faces along the way!
Oh boy, what a fantastic meal I had with my humans in Fort Langley, BC! Tradish’s The Ancestor Cafe is a cozy little gem right in the heart of historic Fort Langley. It’s like stepping into a colourful storybook filled with Indigenous culture and delicious food!
This place isn’t just any old cafe; Tradish Cafe is a tribute to the original fur trading post from the early 1800s. The fort stands tall and proud, sharing whispers of British Columbia’s exciting past while beckoning all who pass by to stop and take in the magic.
Now, let me paint you a picture of Tradish! The atmosphere? Rustic yet bright, with the most delightful aromas pirouetting through the air! The walls are adorned with incredible artwork by members of the Indigenous community.
There was a stunning carving of a loon and the moon that made me want to do backflips in delight!
A unique offering at Tradish is the plant-based medicinal drinks and jams! They enchanted my humans! These aren’t your regular potions; they are vibrant preparations bursting with herbal goodness. One sip, and it felt like drinking sunshine!
My human lady tried the smoky juniper cherry delight, and let me tell you, she was over the moon with the flavour! In addition to the great taste, the blend is purported to be full of antioxidants and great for your heart health….who said medicine had to taste bad! And guess what? She even took home a jar of jam to relive that delicious moment!
Then there were the menu choices, oh my, we were in for a treat!
One of our choices was the delicious Bannock and Eggs! The bannock was fluffy, golden, and the perfect pairing for crispy bacon and fresh eggs. Every bite had them singing its praises.
But guess what? The fun didn’t end there! We couldn’t resist diving into the Three Sisters Bannock Taco and talking about a flavour fiesta! This vegan taco, bursting with beans and spices, was like a party in our mouths! Pair it with the soft, fluffy bannock, and each bite was an explosion of happiness! It was the ultimate comfort food, and my humans couldn’t stop raving about it.
As we enjoyed our meals surrounded by the inspiring stories of Fort Langley, I felt a deep connection to the land and its vibrant history.
Tradish Restaurant isn’t just a place to eat; it’s a magical experience that brings together the past and present with every delightful bite and sip!
I can hardly wait to float back to Fort Langley for another round of culinary fun at Tradish.
I just know there’s more scrumptious bannock and those whimsical plant-based drinks waiting for us! Until next time, splish-splash!
On our recent grand adventure to Vancouver, BC, my humans couldn’t stop raving about this gelato shop that boasted a jaw-dropping 238 flavours! I thought they were pulling my webbed little leg, after all, 238 flavours? That’s beyond what this rubber duck could possibly fathom!
Located in the heart of Vancouver, BC, La Casa Gelato, the delightful gem, first opened its doors back in 1982. Originally called La Casa Gelato/International Sports Bar, it served up Italian classics like pizza and panini alongside a mere twelve flavours of gelato and sorbetto. Somewhere along the line, the owners, Vince and Pina Misceo, decided it was time to make gelato their flagship, and let me tell you, the family has been spinning magic ever since!
Fast forward to 2019, and La Casa Gelato bagged a spot in the Guinness World Records for having the most flavours on-site in the world. A record that still stands today!
The family has created nearly 600 flavour combinations and continues to experiment with daring new ones. I found a gem of a quote from the patriarch of the family:
“Once I run out of flavours, I’ll be a dead guy.”
This dedication to their craft is truly inspiring!
As we waddled into La Casa Gelato, through the vibrant pink doors of this iconic building, it felt like stepping into a luscious strawberry ice cream bowl, pink everywhere!
The atmosphere was positively bursting with fun, making it impossible not to grin as we perused the endless rows of coolers. It was a joyous and lively experience, with vibrant colours and playful decor adding to the excitement of choosing a flavour!
First things first, we lined up to pay, right by a tantalizing display of exquisite ice cream cakes, Italian pastries, and chocolate delights. Ah, so tempting!
But our mission was clear: select one or two of those legendary 238 flavours. We paid for our scoops and received a nifty token that let us bypass the dilemma of melting treats while we made our selections!
Now came the moment of truth, narrowing down from 238 glorious options to our two scoops each.
The flavor lineup was out of this world: lychee, chocolate bacon, mango, kimchi, durian, black sesame, lavender, basil, chai tea, the classics like chocolate and vanilla, and even more outrageous combinations like chocolate Jack Daniels, berry and jalapeno, pear gorgonzola and blue cheese, and sour cherry, to name a few. Each flavour was a unique and delightful surprise, a testament to the creativity and dedication of the gelato makers at La Casa Gelato. Talk about a flavour buffet!
Despite the overwhelming choices, my humans were victorious, each emerging with their scoops and smiles wide as can be, playfully challenging one another to see who made the best selection. They sampled each other’s scoops, resulting in a delightful gelato tasting spree, racking up eight flavours in total! The gelato was rich and creamy, each flavour a burst of unique and intense taste. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and excitement, making the experience even more enjoyable.
The human who writes for me swears her choices of black sesame and sour cherry were the crème de la crème, but I have a feeling she’s a tad biased. Regardless, every last bite was heavenly!
All in all, it was a fantastic experience, bursting with flavour and joy. I can hardly wait for our next visit to Vancouver, where I’ll be ready to dive into more delightful gelato adventures at La Casa Gelato and see who can pick the champion flavour next time!
Quack, quack, my fellow water adventurers! It’s me, your favourite buoyant buddy, Bob the rubber ducky, splashing in with tales from my recent escapade at one of Vancouver’s sparkling gems: Queen Elizabeth Park! This isn’t just a park; it’s a dazzling playground of unique experiences, from the stunning views to the vibrant mix of humans celebrating life in all its glory.
As I BOB along the water’s edge, the breathtaking view of the mountains kissing the sky fills my little rubber heart with joy! Pair that with a skyline of downtown Vancouver, and it’s like a postcard come to life, utterly enchanting! And let’s not forget the flowers; WOWZERS! A riot of colours and shapes dances before my eyes at every turn. Honestly, it’s like nature threw a confetti party, and I’m here for all of it!
On this sun-splashed afternoon, humans were out in droves, soaking up the splendour. Talk about a lively scene! I had the absolute pleasure of witnessing a family spanning five generations celebrating their ancestors’ journey to Canada. How special is that? Then there were three weddings unfolding among the lush gardens, romance blossoming everywhere!
And let’s not overlook the couple from Australia, beaming with joy as they returned to explore Canada following a health issue. The park was alive with laughter, love, and all sorts of shenanigans. What a delightful tapestry of life!
But my absolute favourite moment? Drumroll, please… It was the couple walking with their pet rooster!
Yes, you heard that right, a real, feathery rooster lounging comfortably in his mama’s arms. Talk about quirky! Seeing such a charming creature made my day brighter—there’s nothing quite like the joy our furry and feathered friends bring to our outings!
After soaking in all that excitement, we made a pit stop at a food truck that had us quacking with delight: Potato Tornado! One of my humans is a die-hard potato enthusiast, but this was a potato experience like no other. Imagine crispy, spiral-cut potatoes on a stick—talk about whimsical! This spiralling slice of heaven is so enormous that you want to have a buddy to share it with (or not; I won’t judge!). If you find yourself at Queen Elizabeth Park, make sure to grab one of these delicious treats. Trust me, they’re irresistible!
But wait, there’s more! This park is brimming with a diverse range of spectacular attractions. Have you wandered through the Bloedel Conservatory yet? It’s a tropical wonderland where exotic plants and vibrant birds create a symphony for the senses.
And don’t forget to check out the stunning quarry garden, the arboretum filled with magnificent trees, and sculptures from the renowned artist Henry Moore. It’s an art lover’s dream!
For those who enjoy a bit of action, the park offers tennis courts, lawn bowling, and pitch-and-putt! You can relax with a picnic, marvel at the stars, or, if you’re in the mood for a fine dining experience, Seasons in the Park awaits.
Unfortunately, the grand finale we hoped for was closed for repairs: the fabulous Dancing Waters fountain! Located near the Bloedel Conservatory, this spectacular display features 70 jets of water and uses 85,000 litres of recirculating water, creating a mesmerizing dance both day and night. The fountain operates on a special program that varies the heights of the jets. We will return to experience this stunning sight!
So, folks, we were thrilled with the stunning views, encounters, and delectable Potato Tornado, making Queen Elizabeth Park an absolute must-visit anytime we are in Vancouver. I’m already swimming with anticipation for my next adventure, so I can continue exploring everything this fantastic park has to offer!
It’s Bob the rubber duck here to share my splashtacular experience at Haidilao Hot Pot in Burnaby, BC!
If you’re looking for an adventure that’s as delicious as it is fun, this vibrant eatery is where you need to be.
As I floated into Haidilao, I was greeted by a clean and bright environment that sparkled with warmth.
It felt like I was swimming into a culinary haven where good times and great meals awaited!
The atmosphere buzzed with laughter and chatter, showcasing the joyful spirit of families as they enjoyed their time together.
Let’s dive into the hot pot experience!
For those who are new to this, hot pot is a communal Chinese cooking method. You cook a variety of ingredients in a simmering pot of broth at your table.
First, we had to choose our soup base. With so many options, I felt like a kid in a candy store!
Whether you prefer spicy or mild, they’ve got something to tickle your taste buds.
I felt my rubber heart race with excitement. We selected four rich, flavorful broths that promised a fantastic cooking adventure.
Then came the star of the show, the incredible variety of ingredients!
From fresh veggies to tender meats and sumptuous seafood, the selection was truly a feast for the senses.
My humans loaded up the pots with their choices of colourful noodles, juicy meat slices, succulent seafood, and vibrant greens.
Then there was a vast spice and sauce bar, where you could concoct your perfect dipping sauce!
It was like a flavour explosion waiting to happen in each bite, and we couldn’t wait to dig in.
And let’s talk about the exceptional customer service! The staff at Haidilao were nothing short of extraordinary.
My hat is off to the manager for assembling such a fantastic team of humans.
Each member of the team was eager to make everyone’s experience was top-notch.
I felt valued as they constantly checked in to ensure my drinking fountain was full and that my humans had everything they needed.
Their attentiveness made the dining experience feel uniquely personal. We all felt like cherished guests.
One of the most captivating moments of our visit was the renowned changing of the mask ceremony.
The skill and artistry of the masked staff member were mesmerizing as he transformed his mask right before us.
It was a cultural treat that added an extra splash of excitement to our meal, leaving us all in awe.
But the cherry on top, or should I say the cherry on the hot pot, was the delightful surprise they prepared for my human’s birthday!
The restaurant staff came together to sing and celebrate in a special way, making the day unforgettable.
Watching them shower my human with kindness and joy made my little rubber heart swell with happiness.
Haidilao Hot Pot is a treasure trove of culinary delights, heartwarming service, and a great place for family fun.
Between the incredible food, friendly staff, and memorable experiences, it’s truly a quack-tastic dining destination!
