Fort Langley National Historic Site – Langley, British Columbia

Hello, adventurous pals! Bob here to tell you about my splash-tastic journey to the Fort Langley Historical Site in beautiful British Columbia! Even though the sun decided to play hide-and-seek on our visit, we made waves of memories!

Imagine this vibrant fur trading post where Indigenous peoples and European settlers came together. They traded everything from beaver pelts to shiny metal trinkets.

It’s like a historical marketplace that would have been filled with bustling chatter and exciting exchanges!

As swarms of miners flocked to the area like seagulls diving for chips, Governor James Douglas declared British Columbia a colony right in the heart of the Big House at Fort Langley. Talk about a moment for the history books!

Fast forward to today, and Fort Langley is a treasure trove of fun and learning for families! I waddled around the grounds, and boy, did we have a blast!

Kids were laughing and learning through hands-on activities that truly brought history to life.

Next up was the fur press! This was no ordinary contraption; it’s what folks used to squish those furs tight for shipping around the globe. It made me think about all those hardworking hands that made it all happen. Phew!

The Stores Building was next on our path. This building housed everything that the Fort would sell or use in day-to-day life.

Finally, we reached the Big House, which was home to the fort leadership. Meetings and discussions held in this building led to decisions that changed the course of history.

If you ever find yourself cruising through British Columbia, make sure to splash into the magic of Fort Langley Historical Site!

Set aside plenty of time, there’s loads to explore in this beautifully preserved piece of Canadiana.

You’ll soak up fascinating history, have a whale of a time, and who knows, you might even find a few new faces along the way!
