Bob here to quack about a BOBortunity brought to my attention by Rebecca from Alberta week 34 winner of the Get Your Bob On Contest.
Rebecca’s entry is the World’s Largest Oil Lamp Replica, an impressive Prairie landmark overlooking the beautiful Meeting Creek Coulee in Donalda, Alberta.

Officially opened on July 1, 2000, the lamp was built as a millennium project.

This giant oil lamp celebrates the important role oil lamps played in Prairie history.
The lamp draws attention to Donalda’s remarkable oil lamp collection showcased in the museum.
Made of steel and fiberglass, it stands 42 feet (12.8 meters) tall and measures 17 feet (5.18 meters) wide at its base.
That is one mighty lamp, especially when you are only the size of a rubber duck!

Visitors can see the lamp during Donalda Museum hours and climb the stairs inside to reach a viewing platform.

From there, you can enjoy sweeping views of the coulee, countryside and surrounding Canadian Badlands.

At dusk, the giant lamp lights up and casts its glow across the Prairie landscape.

Be sure to visit the nearby Donalda Museum which houses more than 1,000 unique oil lamps dating back to the 1600s.
It is one of Canada’s largest oil lamp collections…

… and offers a fascinating look at how these lamps illuminated homes and shaped everyday life long before electricity became common.
The World’s Largest Oil Lamp Replica is a shining example of Alberta’s famous “big things in small towns.”
With its unusual size, wonderful views, nighttime illumination and connection to local history, it is well worth pulling over to explore.

Stop for the lamp, stay for the museum and take plenty of photos!
Thank you, Rebecca, for such an illuminating BOBortunity!
