Alex greeted my humans with an infectious positivity.
After seating us with care, he took the time to learn about our journey.
He even took the time to suggest BOBortunities in Sioux Falls.
On to the star of the show: the food!
One human couldn’t resist the chicken and waffles. The perfectly seasoned and breaded chicken strips could challenge any chicken out there! Paired with rich pecan butter and sweet maple syrup, it was a breakfast masterpiece, simply mouthwatering!
My other human chose the Spinach and Tomato Omelette. Stuffed to the brim with fresh spinach, juicy tomatoes, asparagus, and a heavenly twist of smoked Gouda cheese. And don’t get me started on the perfectly toasted sourdough bread and crispy hashbrowns, what a feast! My human was so enamoured of the flavours that she wished she could have polished off every last bite.
And me, well, I thought I would start my day floating in a mimosa….what a great way to say good morning!
In a nutshell, stopping by the Phillips Avenue Diner turned out to be one of the best decisions of our journey.
Thanks, Alex, for your attentiveness and for making us feel right at home. I can’t wait to come back for more tasty treats and cheerful banter!
Bob here to share my fantastic adventure at the Sioux Falls Battleship Memorial!
Tucked away in beautiful Sioux Falls, South Dakota, this memorial is a treasure trove of history that left me quacking with excitement.
As I paddled closer to the memorial, I could almost feel the echoes of the past reverberating in the air.
This isn’t just any memorial; it’s a tribute to the brave souls who served on the USS South Dakota during World War II!
The battleship itself was a mighty fortress in the Pacific. It partook in significant battles, earning 13 battle stars for its valiant efforts.
Just imagine the thrill of navigating through intense naval warfare.
Battling the forces of nature and enemy fleets with unwavering courage was a unique experience!
One of the most remarkable things about the Battleship Memorial is how it recreates the entire surface of the ship.
Standing on the deck, even for a little rubber duck like me, was an exhilarating experience!
The detailed craftsmanship of the deck made me feel as if I was right there. I was experiencing the waves crashing against the hull, hearing the commanding orders, and feeling the camaraderie of the crew.
Walking on the meticulously designed surface, I hopped from one spot to another. I imagined the sailors bustling about, swabbing the deck, manning the guns, and sharing stories amid the salty sea air!
The memorial features a comprehensive museum filled with artifacts and educational displays that truly bring the battleship’s history to life.
As I floated through the exhibits, I discovered fascinating stories about the ship’s construction. From its missions to the brave individuals who served aboard, no details were left out.
Pictures, uniforms, and equipment transported me back to a time of valour and sacrifice.
The multimedia presentations were engagingand taught about the ship’s role in pivotal battles such as the Battle of Santa Cruz and the Battle of the Philippine Sea, events that shaped the course of history!
One of my favourite spots was the interactive display where visitors could listen to firsthand accounts from veterans.
The dedication behind this memorial is evident everywhere you look. It reminds us of the hard-fought battles and the spirit of resilience that lives on through their stories.
If you ever find yourself in Sioux Falls, don’t hesitate to visit this splendid Battleship Memorial.
It’s not only an impressive monument to naval history, but a heartfelt salute to those who fought for freedom.
With each quack and bob I made, I felt an overwhelming sense of respect for these heroes and a newfound appreciation for the salty tales of the sea.
Come for the history, stay for the experience, and let your imagination set sail on the deck of the USS South Dakota!
Let’s dive into the delightful wonders of Falls Park in Sioux Falls, South Dakota! Oh, what a fabulous place it is, a real gem tucked away right in the heart of the city. With vibrant colours and natural beauty, this park is a playground for both nature lovers and rubber ducks alike!
As I floated along the Big Sioux River, my eyes sparkled with excitement at the magnificent sight of the waterfalls cascading down the rocks. The sound of water crashing and bubbling is like music to my little duck ears; it’s a symphony of nature that beckons everyone to come and explore! The falls are truly the centrepiece of the park, and I imagined myself swooshing down the sprays like a true adventurer.
Strolling through the well-kept paths, I couldn’t help but admire the surroundings and the obvious care that the community puts into keeping this park inviting and pristine.
The tranquility of the park, like a scene from a postcard, envelops you in a sense of calm and peace.
For my human companions, the park offers several well-maintained picnic areas, each with its unique charm and a perfect spot for a cozy lunch. I kept an eye out for crumbs, hoping someone might drop a snack!
Families gather to laugh and play, all while the sun shines down and the fresh air fills their lungs. It’s a lively atmosphere that fills my little duck heart with joy!
An added element to the park is the iconic Queen Bee Mill, a historic grain mill that adds a sprinkle of history to the scenic landscape. As I bobbed by, I couldn’t help but wonder about the stories those old stones might tell. The joy of discovery, combined with the natural beauty and rich history, makes Falls Park an enchanting place for everyone.
And let’s not forget about my favourite spot: the observation tower! I floated upward for a better view, and wow! From there, I could see the dazzling waterfalls, vibrant foliage, and the colourful tapestry of the park that wraps around the river.
The view from the observation tower is truly breathtaking, offering a panoramic view of the entire park. It’s a sight that truly takes your breath away: perfect for a little rubber duck with a penchant for adventure!
Talking about taking your breath away, all of a sudden, the serenity of the park was interrupted by fighter jets overhead that came from the local air base.
It was amazing to see these impressive pieces of equipment in action so close.
Whether you’re hiking the trails, snapping photos of the stunning scenery, or simply lounging by the water’s edge, Falls Park is a place that warms the heart.
It’s more than just a park; it’s a celebration of nature, community, and the joy of being alive.
It’s a place where you feel connected and part of something bigger.

When I think of Sioux Falls in South Dakota, my little duck heart quacks with joy at the thought of their importance in farming and agriculture. But guess what?
This vibrant city also boasts a treasure trove of artistic acumen, and the community knows how to celebrate its cultural diversity!
One of the highlights of my recent adventure was the amazing Sculpture Walk downtown. A fabulous free outdoor art gallery beckoning you to explore every nook and cranny of the area.
Ingenious, right?
Red 40 – Andrew Pudas – Plymouth, MN
It all started 22 years ago, and once you dip your webbed feet into it, you’ll want to waddle to see every single sculpture.
They’re cleverly placed to ensure you can always spot the next one down the street, so you keep going, and going, and going!
You cross the street, and before you know it, you’ve made a complete loop.

Archway – Rebecca Martens – Fargo, ND
The interactive nature of the walk keeps you engaged and involved.
But wait, there’s more!
The Wise One – Catherine Knapp – Lyons, CO
On their website, you can grab a handy map that guides you to even more sculptures scattered throughout the city.
How cool is that?
Lupine – Tim Adams – Webster City, IA
This year, there are 80 stunning sculptures, all on loan from artists hailing from 19 U.S. states and one Canadian province.
Signs From Elsewhere – Tim Rickett – Aberdeen, SD
And if you’re eyeing a sculpture to bring home, they’re available at the end of the season at prices ranging from $2,000 to $40,000, with most falling within the sweet spot of $5,000 to $15,000.
Honeycomb – Rebecca Martens – Fargo, ND
Easter Island Rendezvous – Steve Bormes – Sioux Falls, SD

I had a splashing good time snapping photos of my favourites! There’s something for everyone, from whimsical colourful birds in a cage to a striking metal bull crafted from reclaimed materials.
Cagey Birds – Jeffrey Satter – Sioux Falls, SD
Babe the Recycled Ox – Dennis Allen – Avrelia, IA

Octopus – Eric Thorsen – Big Fork, MT
Oh, and here’s a little fun fact for you: you can even vote for your favourite sculpture!
One deserving artist gets to snag the People’s Choice Award. Being of the feathered persuasion, my vote went for “Cagey Birds”.
But of course, there are 79 other favourites to choose from.
If you can’t visit in person, no worries, you can vote online too!
Black Hills Iron – Tim James/Aidian Demaris – Good Thunder, MN
Nurturing – Mark Hall – Kasota, MN
When near Sioux Falls, I highly recommend taking a leisurely float through their delightful downtown area to soak in the Sculpture Walk.
As I bobbed happily in the vibrant waters of the O’Haire Inn’s Sip ‘n Dip Lounge, the excitement in the air was almost as thrilling as a bubble bath!
The colourful ambiance was buzzing with energy, drawing guests into a night that promised enchantment, specifically, the much-anticipated mermaid show!
Nestled in my front-row spot, I enjoyed watching the guests sip on colourful, themed cocktails that mirrored the magical spirit of the evening.
One glance at the stunning glass wall showcased an indoor swimming pool, my very own aquatic playground!
This unique design transformed the bar into a captivating underwater stage from 6:30 to 10 PM, and anticipation rippled through the crowd.
As the clock struck half-past six, the show began to unfold, and I couldn’t help but be mesmerized!
Two beautiful mermaids gracefully emerged from the shimmering water, their fluid movements a true spectacle.
They glided through the pool like dolphins, performing acrobatic feats that left the audience, including yours truly, in awe. I swear they were putting on a show just for me!
With charming smiles and playful gestures, I felt my little rubber heart flutter, who knew a duck could blush?
The atmosphere was electric, filled with laughter and cheers as guests united in shared joy.
The Sip ‘n Dip is more than just a bar with great drinks; it fosters a sense of camaraderie that turns strangers into friends.
Between the tempting appetizer menu, the buzz of slot machines, and attentive bartenders always ready with a friendly smile, this spot delivers a night to remember.

Today, I am sharing my experience at the Clark and Lewie’s Pub and Grill at the O’Haire Inn in Great Falls, Montana.
The restaurant exuded a welcoming vibe that made me, a rubber ducky, feel right at home.
My little rubber ducky heart fluffed with delight as I watched people enjoy their meals, and laughter filled the air.
We were greeted by the ever-welcoming server, Amanda.
This charming gal wasn’t just taking orders; she was like a spark of sunshine, making each guest feel like a special friend.
Her exceptional service made us feel valued and important. It was evident that she genuinely cared about everyone’s dining experience.
As she glided from table to table, I noticed how she greeted patrons by name. She often knew precisely what they wanted to eat, which was incredibly impressive!
I couldn’t help but feel the heartwarming atmosphere wash over me!
We started with a cocktail as recommended by Amanda.
She created a masterpiece that was as refreshing as it looked.
I wish my little duck brain could recall the name or at least the ingredients?!?
For our meal, we decided on fish and chips, a choice that proved to be a culinary treasure!
The generous portion was not only satisfying but also left enough leftovers for my humans to take home. The next day, they enjoyed another adventure with the food!
The fish was tender, the chips were crispy, and the overall taste was simply delicious.
The cheerful mood in the restaurant was contagious, and I like to think Amanda was the driving force behind it.
Her enthusiastic engagement with every table brought smiles all around. It truly felt like a community gathering. Everyone was welcome to share in the joy of good food and warm company.
If you find yourself paddling around Great Falls, let me assure you, the Clark and Lewie’s Pub and Grill is a must-visit!

Bob here to share tales from my latest escapade at the one-of-a-kind O’Haire Inn in Great Falls, Montana!
As I floated around Great Falls, it became evident that the O’Haire Inn is more than just a hotel; it’s a vibrant community hub.
Friendly locals eagerly asked if we’d visited the famous O’Haire’s Sip ‘n Dip bar and their beloved Clark and Lewie’s Pub and Grill.
Their excitement was contagious.
It was clear that this was a spot where both visitors and residents came together to create lasting memories.
From the moment I waddled through its tall, welcoming doors, I was enveloped in a unique charm that felt like a warm embrace.
Each corner whispered stories of past guests and cherished memories, adding to the Inn’s allure.
The dedicated staff greeted us like old friends, their faces lighting up with enthusiasm as they introduced us to the inn’s wonderful features.
Then, they revealed the star of the show: SID, their very own rubber duck celebrity!
SID is quite a phenomenon with a legacy is nothing short of extraordinary.
Back in 1996, Sandy, who would later become the owner, had an idea: why not include rubber ducks in the guest rooms?
The result? A quacking success!
Guests fell in love with the ducks and began taking them on adventures around the globe. Snapping photos along the way!
O’Haire’s Inn has given over 50,000 ducks to their guests throughout the years!
They have received pictures back from their worldly ducks from all over the world.
Mexico, France, Budapest, and beyond.
Now that’s what I call a rubber duck dynasty!
It warmed my little rubber heart to witness the connections that the O’Haire Inn fosters among families and friends through these duck tales.
Listening to the staff recount the adventures of SID’s friends sparked my imagination.
I could picture the happiness they brought to countless faces around the world.
With every delightful sip at the Sip ‘n Dip and every mouthwatering dish at the Clark and Lewie’s, I felt a little piece of the O’Haires’ magic infuse my very being.
This isn’t just a hotel; it’s a tapestry where nostalgia weaves seamlessly with community spirit.
Hey there, friends! It’s your favourite floaty companion, BOB the rubber duck, splashing in with exciting news about a must-visit gem—Montana’s Cowboys Bar and Museum! Now, let me save you from the rookie mistake my humans made. We strolled in at 8 a.m. expecting breakfast, completely glossing over the word “BAR” in the name! Oops!
But no worries! The friendly folks at the Cowboys Bar and Museum shared a hearty laugh, offered us a refreshing beer, which we politely declined, and, since we were the only patrons at that hour, treated us to a personal tour.
Imagine being transported back to the wild days of the American West, all within the cozy confines of a charming log cabin from the 1930s.
This unique setting is a goldmine of over 500 fascinating artifacts from the cowboy era, including rawhide ropes, sturdy ox yokes, and gleaming spurs.
The enthusiastic crew from the Montana Cowboys Association runs the museum, and they’re always eager to welcome new friends to celebrate their storied cowboy legacy. If you are curious about cowboy culture, don’t hesitate to reach out or paddle your way over for a visit.
But the Cowboys Bar and Museum is not just about historical exhibits. It’s a place where you can enjoy karaoke nights, tasty cocktails, lively dancing, delicious pizza, and even a casino! It’s a full-blown hoedown that’s sure to get your spirits soaring and keep you entertained.
Now, let’s talk about the museum itself. This stunning log cabin was built by the National Youth Administration in the late 1930s and opened its doors in 1941. You can almost feel the history seeping through the walls.
Once inside, prepare to be amazed! You’ll encounter genuine items once wielded by cowboys, like branding irons and cowpoke saddles. Don’t miss the beautifully crafted custom-made saddles, plus some incredible Native American artifacts.
And how about this—a Kimball reed organ floated down the river from St. Louis to Fort Benton in 1876! Now that’s a tale worth telling!
Gun enthusiasts will delight in the incredible historical pieces on display, including an old muzzleloading shotgun and a stunning flintlock rifle—perfect treasures for spinning a few cowboy yarns! There’s even a great poster from the 1946 Calgary Stampede—these guys have everything, Cowboy!
The list of artifacts does not end; you must see it to truly appreciate the work and camaraderie resulting in the collection housed in this unique setting.
So, rustle up your cowboy spirit and head down to the Cowboys Bar and Museum! It’s an enchanting chapter of the nation’s history and a priceless piece of Montana’s vibrant past.
As I found myself perched on the edge of the Veterans War Memorial in Great Falls, Montana, a profound sense of duty washed over me. This hallowed ground, overlooking the Missouri River, serves as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by countless individuals to preserve freedom for all.
The mission of this memorial is deeply resonant:
“To honor and recognize all Veterans of all branches of military service to the United States of America in peace and war. A veteran is defined as any man or woman of any age who has served in any branch of the military of the United States of America in any capacity. To equally honor Veterans living or deceased.”
Known as “A Place of Honor,” the memorial is thoughtfully designed featuring striking sculptures, benches for contemplative reflection, and spaces for families to gather.
Most notably, it features over 8,500 name plaques dedicated to both women and men who have valiantly served in the United States military.
Throughout the history of the United States, the toll of war has been heavy, with more than 650,000 military personnel lost in conflicts since the Revolutionary War. This number grows exponentially when we account for those injured or affected by the ravages of war. Thus, while the 8,500 name plaques represent a significant tribute, they are but a fraction of the many who have selflessly dedicated their lives to service.
Great Falls, home to five military installations, is prominently reflected within this memorial. Moreover, the memorial embodies inclusivity, welcoming anyone across the nation to submit the names of their loved ones —past or present, living or deceased —to be honored on its walls.
As I floated among the rows of name plaques, I couldn’t help but ponder the enormity of their contributions. The bravery of these individuals has safeguarded not only a nation, but also the ideals of freedom and safety that many often take for granted. Though I am but a rubber duck, I am acutely aware of the value of friendship between nations, particularly between Canada and the United States.
With gratitude, I acknowledge the sacrifices of those who have fought bravely. Thank you, United States, for the freedom you diligently strive to preserve.
Hi there, friends! Buckle up, because I, Bob the Rubber Duck, just had an unforgettable breakfast experience at A Family Affair Restaurant in Great Falls, Montana, and I can’t wait to share it with you!
I waddled through the doors at 10 AM, and wow, was it bustling! There was an enthusiastic crowd waiting outside, eager to dive into a delicious breakfast. The energy in the air was contagious, making me even more excited to see what was in store.
Now, let me tell you about the service. A remarkable woman was juggling orders and happiness like a pro! Her warm smile was as inviting as the warm biscuits I was about to taste. She zipped around the restaurant, making sure every guest felt special, whether they were part of a family, a couple, or dining solo. It was heartwarming to see such a diverse mix of people coming together for a shared meal! Sitting next to us were what appeared to be three generations of ladies, all sharing their excitement over the menu, which is a testament to the timeless yet modern menu choices.
Ah, the food! Let’s get to the good stuff. The biscuits and gravy platter was an absolute showstopper—a hearty helping of eggs, sausage, and hash browns paired with fluffy and heavenly cheese biscuits, smothered in a savoury gravy that had my little rubber duck heart soaring!
And then there were the Chef’s Hot Cakes. These were not your typical hot cakes at all – the batter was infused with potato and bacon. Can you believe it? A savoury twist that was simply divine! Each bite was a delightful blend of flavours that made my beak smile from ear to ear. I was genuinely thrilled, and I’m just a duck!
The cash register was located at the irresistible bakery showcase! My humans were too full to even finish their breakfasts, but they could not resist scooping up a giant cinnamon roll on the way out. When they finally tried it later on that night, it was as sinful as it sounds…and worth every calorie.
The ambiance of the restaurant was like a cozy trip down memory lane. With its rustic decor, wooden accents, and charming knick-knacks, I felt right at home amid the lively chatter. It was the perfect backdrop for a hearty breakfast!
So, if you ever find yourself in Great Falls and your tummy starts to grumble, swing by A Family Affair Restaurant! You won’t just get a fantastic meal in a delightful setting—you’ll also be treated like family, even when the place is buzzing with fellow breakfast lovers. Trust me, from one rubber duck to another, you won’t regret hopping in for a visit!

Welcome to the unique and sunny shores of Key West, Florida! As your guide, I’ve been exploring this vibrant island, immersing myself in its rich history, delectable treats, and awe-inspiring views. Join me as we navigate through the captivating past and present of this tropical paradise!
Key West is a treasure trove of history, having been home to the Calusa and Tequesta tribes long before European explorers arrived.
Officially established in 1822 by John Simonton, the island’s strategic potential was quickly realized. The 19th century saw prosperity through the wrecking industry, and Key West later thrived with cigar manufacturing and fishing. By the 1900s, the island’s charm had attracted artists and writers, making it a cultural hub.
My humans did not budget enough time for this fantastic destination, but I was still able to spend time at a few excellent venues, which I highly recommend:

Quack, quack! Bob here, and I have a tale as fabulous as a sun-soaked Florida day! My journey led me to Coral Castle, a magical place in Homestead, which left me floating with wonder.
Once upon a time, in a land of sunshine and warm breezes, there stood a very peculiar castle, all made of coral! This isn’t just any ol’ castle. It was crafted by the hands of a single genius—Edward Leedskalnin, a true character whose story is as intriguing as a feather in the wind! The uniqueness of Coral Castle is a story waiting to be discovered.
As I bobbed along with my human companions, we found ourselves at the entrance, home to a charming little gift shop—a store full of trinkets and treasures—perfect for a rubber duck like me! But I was poised to explore the absolute marvel—the Coral Castle.
When we approached, my eyes widened (as wide as a rubber duck’s eyes can get)! The towering coral formations were a sight like nothing I had seen before.
Our knowledgeable guide launched into Edward’s legendary saga. Picture this: a Latvian immigrant with a heart heavy enough to sink a ship, all because his fiancée Agnes jilted him right before their wedding day! Talk about a love story with a twist!
In 1923, Edward turned his heartbreak into a monumental love letter. Working under the soft glow of the moonlight (how poetic!), he carved and moved massive coral blocks—some weighing as much as me and all my duck friends combined!
Seriously, how did this guy do it? Was he secretly a superhero? Some folks say he used ancient techniques, while others think he had a sprinkle of magic in his toolbox. I imagined him there, all 5 feet of him, working diligently while I floated nearby, cheering him on in spirit! I think I will buy the book and have my humans read it to me so I can discover the mystery.
But in the meantime, as we wandered through the enchanting stone corridors, I watched my humans marvel at his creations. There were stunning walls, intricate archways, and a sundial that could tell its own stories.
My favorite was the Moon Fountain, where water danced gracefully as it reflected the sunlight—what a romantic touch! Edward was trying to send a wink to Agnes from beyond, a gesture that still resonates with visitors today.
My companions snapped photos, laughed, and oohed and aahed at the marvelous details Edward had carved. Each stone told a tale of dedication and love, turning sorrow into a legacy that would make even a rubber duck’s heart swell with pride. The air was thick with magic and emotion as shadows frolicked across the coral walls, and I couldn’t help but feel Edward’s spirit—a testament to the strength of the human heart, lingering in the whispers of the wind.
Even though Edward took his final bow in 1951, his creation remains—a quirky monument to resilience and creativity. Coral Castle stands as a testament to how love, even when lost, can inspire beautiful creations. While I floated there, I contemplated the mysteries of life and love, feeling a profound connection to Edward, who turned his heartbreak into an extraordinary castle of dreams.
So, here’s the quack of the day: If you ever find yourself near Homestead, don’t miss the chance to visit Coral Castle. It’s a place where magic, love, and a little rubber duck like me can all find a home among the tales of the heart!

As I paddled through this tropical wonderland, I was greeted by pastel-colored wooden houses that looked plucked from a painter’s palette, each bursting with charm and character.
My waddle took me straight to a local hotspot that’s nothing short of legendary: the Key Lime Pie Co. Let me tell you, a visit here is like embarking on a sweet adventure, a delightful discovery waiting to be made!
I was greeted by a dazzling display of key lime pies showcased like treasures in a gallery. The vibrant green filling glistened under the lights, and each pie was crowned with a cloud of fluffy whipped cream. The sweet aroma of freshly baked crusts filled the air, and the tangy scent of the key lime was unmistakable.
As I floated around, I overheard some humans chatting about the history of this delightful concoction. This iconic pie, made from tiny tart limes that thrive in the sunshine, came to life in Key West in the 19th century.
Its tangy sweetness and creamy goodness have made it an absolute favorite among locals and visitors. I couldn’t help but watch the happy faces of people as they dug into their slices, each bite seeming to transport them to dessert paradise.
Finally, I managed to snag my slice! As I relished that key lime goodness, I couldn’t help but close my eyes and let out a contented quack. The zesty flavor was like a sunny hug from Key West itself, and I had to resist the urge to dive into the chocolate-dipped key lime pie on a stick that was tempting me from across the room. My, oh my! The joy radiating from those indulging in that treat was truly infectious!
But the magic of Key West is not just about the pie. It’s the atmosphere that swirls around you—rich with history, culture, and the spirit of the community. Every moment I spent there made my little rubber heart swell with joy. From the vibrant streets to the tantalizing tastes, I soaked it all in like a sponge… or, you know, a rubber duck!

Its unique charm, a blend of vibrant culture and an inviting atmosphere were a delightful surprise!
As I floated through the vibrant streets of this enchanting island, I couldn’t resist the charm surrounding me. One of my favourite stops on this whimsical journey was the iconic Willie T’s! This bar is a true gem of Key West, famous for its vibrant and inviting vibe, which is sure to get your heart racing.
As I made my way through the bustling entrance, the sounds of live music and the delightful clinking of glasses washed over me like a joyful wave.
The walls, plastered with signed dollar bills from visitors past, painted a tale of countless adventures—each one filled with memories just waiting to be shared.
I settled into the vibrant scene, surrounded by a delightful mix of tourists and locals, indulging in their tales of escapades beneath the golden Florida sun. The signature drink—”Willie’s Rum Runner”—a concoction of local rum, fresh fruit juices, and a splash of grenadine- was a colourful, fruity masterpiece that seemed to encapsulate the essence of island life. I could practically taste the joy buzzing in the air.
As I bobbed along (no barstool needed for this little duck!), I overheard heroic tales of fishing conquests, sunset sails, and the magical “green flash” that lights up the sky just as the sun kisses the horizon goodnight. My little rubber heart swelled with excitement to be part of such a pulsating scene, even if only as a cheerful spectator.
Alas, my humans had a packed schedule, and the clock seemed to tick too quickly for this adventure-loving duck. I couldn’t linger long enough to snag a barstool, join in the merriment, or add my signature to one of those illustrious dollar bills. But fear not! This isn’t the last you’ll hear from me. I will return to soak in the vibes and leave my mark on Willie T’s Wall of Fame, a tradition where visitors sign a dollar bill and pin it to the wall, creating a colourful mosaic of memories!

Hello, fellow adventurers! Today, I am sharing my latest splashing escapade in the unique and vibrant Key West, Florida. This paradise is home to the renowned Southernmost Point Buoy, a colourful landmark with a rich history that has drawn visitors from all corners of the globe for well over 100 years.
My adventure begins with a dive into the rich history of Key West. Before the influx of tourists, this area was inhabited by the Calusa and Tequesta tribes. The name “Key West” is derived from the Spanish “Cayo Hueso,” which means “Bone Key,” a reference to the numerous bones discovered here. In the early 19th century, Key West emerged as a significant center for shipwreck salvage, cigar production, and sponge fishing, marking its historical importance. Surprisingly, by the mid-1800s, it was the wealthiest city in Florida!
As I floated through the historic streets, I was captivated by the unique architecture surrounding me that spanned many historical years of Key West.
One of the standout structures is the Edwardo H. Gato House, a stunning example of Queen Anne architecture dating back to 1894. Edwardo H. Gato, Sr.. was not just a historical figure; he was a local leader and passionate Cuban patriot who advocated for figures like José Martí in the fight for independence from Spain. The Edwardo H. Gato House stands as a testament to his legacy, a living connection to the past. Upon his arrival in Key West in 1874, he transformed the area from a simple fishing village into a vibrant center, driving the Cuban tobacco industry forward—his cigar factory even became the largest in Key West!
Just a hop, skip, and a splash down the street, you’ll find the charming Harris House. Picture this: on April 2, 1891, two notable families—the Harris and the Curry—came together in a union that felt like a whimsical wave crashing together. Here, J. Vining Harris, Jr. married Florida E. Curry, merging two influential families of the late 19th century Key West scene, whose legacy continues to shape the history of this vibrant city.
In 1906, Vining made a savvy purchase of property on South Street for a mere $3,500. He built three adorable Queen Anne-style homes, like little boats bobbing in a sunny harbour—perfect for family gatherings!
Today, the Harris House shines as a cherished gem, blending history with family legacy. Its place on the National Register of Historic Places since 1983 speaks volumes about its importance to Key West’s rich narrative.
A beautiful statue, a visual masterpiece dedicated to the unforgettable Bishop Albert Kee, is not far down the road. Kee, a local legend until his passing in 2003, was the friendly face at the Southernmost Point, selling beautiful fluted conch shells to every passerby. He and his dad spent over 50 years, a testament to their unwavering dedication, welcoming visitors with conch shell demonstrations and showcasing the rich multicultural vibe that makes this island unique.
And what could be the cause of the excited gathering of humans? They were all making their way to the Southernmost Point marker, just like me! Erected in 1983, this buoy marks the southernmost point of the continental U.S., a mere 90 miles from the shores of Cuba. It’s not just a buoy; it’s a symbol of history and connection. It has become an essential stop for travellers eager to grab that iconic photo with the vibrant red, yellow, and black buoy. I’ve witnessed countless tourists pose triumphantly, arms raised high as if they’re closest to the edge of the world!
Today, Key West stands as a unique blend of culture, festivity, and undeniable charm. Its streets are adorned with pastel-hued conch-style houses, and the air is filled with the alluring aroma of fresh seafood. This is a place that is truly one-of-a-kind, a unique travel destination that promises an adventure like no other. Just imagine this little rubber duck floating through all the laughter, joy, and history—what a quack-tastic adventure!
Quack, quack! Bob here, floating in to share my delightful breakfast experience at the Flagler Restaurant in Homestead. As a rubber duck, I don’t typically partake in meals, but I’ve got a keen eye for culinary adventures, and this breakfast was worth diving into!
Stepping into Flagler, I was immediately captivated by its unique charm. The restaurant’s cozy atmosphere and friendly decor create a welcoming ambiance that is perfect for locals and travelers like me.
The hands-on ownership and their passion for the establishment are evident in the service and food quality, adding to the restaurant’s allure.
Now, let’s talk about the feast I observed! I watched as plates were served up, and I must say, the steak tips, eggs, and pancake breakfast caught my attention. The steak tips were perfectly grilled, juicy, and bursting with flavor. I could almost taste the seasoning from my cozy spot on the table. The eggs were cooked to perfection, complementing the steak wonderfully. And the pancakes? Oh, my quack! They were light, fluffy, and drizzled with just the right amount of syrup — a pancake lover’s dream!
But wait, there’s more! I couldn’t help but admire a nearby table enjoying the crepes, which looked divine. They were elegantly presented, filled with a delightful blend of sweet ingredients that made my little rubber heart flutter. If I had taste buds, I would have begged for a bite!
A special mention must be made for Cookie, our delightful server. Her sunny disposition and warm smile made everyone feel like a part of the Flagler family. Her attention to detail and genuine care for the diners elevated the dining experience, making us feel valued and important.
All in all, my breakfast experience at Flagler Restaurant was a delightful treat. With delicious food, a friendly atmosphere, and outstanding service from Cookie, I’d recommend this hidden gem to anyone in the area. To wrap up my fantastic meal, I was treated to a lively Flamenco show right in the heart of the restaurant.
