Mexico Lindo – Liberty Lake, Washington

At the suggestion of Nick, our Happy Hour host from the Best Western, I found myself waddling my way into Mexico Lindo.

I got a splash of joy right from the start! The moment we quacked open the door, the warm, family-friendly atmosphere wrapped around us like a cozy floatie.

Laughter bubbled up around us, and families enjoying their meals were as lively as a pool party on a sunny day.

A Happy Birthday wall immediately by the front door added to the family feel.

What a splash-tastic idea!

It was filled with photos from celebrations, adding an extra sprinkle of happiness to the ambiance.

The restaurant was almost full when we arrived, but a phenomenal and attentive team of servers still welcomed my humans and me.

We wanted for nothing as they all worked together to ensure our glasses were full of water,

our chip bowl was replenished as needed,

and they even stopped to have their photo taken with me.

As we settled into our booth, crispy house-made tortilla chips and zesty salsa arrived at our table faster than I could say “quack!”

Let me tell you, those chips were still warm, and that salsa, WOW! I’m not sure what the special ingredient was, but it was beak-smaking tasty.

The drink menu had a few interesting options, with my human choosing a house specialty, Pink Potion, a drink that whisked her straight to a tropical paradise.

It’s like a piña colada, but with a splash of magic that makes it unique. They know how to mix up a good time!

For the main event, we dove into some delightful dishes.

The Camarones al Mojo de Ajo had plump shrimp and mushrooms sautéed with a shower of garlic goodness, irresistible!

The Mexican rice, beans, and salad accompanying it were the perfect sidecars for this delectable dish.

My other human chose the Taco Salad from the Light section of the menu.

The perfectly cooked and seasoned beef sat atop a taco shell filled with rice, beans, fresh veggies, cheese, and a dollop of sour cream.

Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, enjoying a family meal, or simply indulging in delicious Mexican flavours, Mexico Lindo is the place to be.

Stoney The Bull – Greenbough, Montana

Bob here to tell you about an interesting sight at Clearwater Junction in Montana, the incredible Stoney the Bull!

Now, I might be small and floaty, but that gigantic statue of Stoney is anything but!

He’s this unforgettable giant that truly embodies the charm and character of Montana. He stands proudly over Stoney’s Kwik Stop, where all the action happens.

This pitstop has been bustling since the late 1960s, assisting travellers as they stop by to refuel and grab a bite.

Stoney’s Kwik Stop has everything you need, from 24-hour gas service to a convenience store packed with snacks and goodies.

I mean, who wouldn’t want to indulge in some soft serve ice cream or fresh sandwiches after a long drive?

And let’s not forget the cozy bar and lounge, where folks can unwind, share stories, and enjoy the friendly local hospitality. There’s even a casino on-site for those feeling lucky!

Of course, it’s Stoney the Bull that first caught my attention.

Added to the site back in the early 1970s, he’s more than just a quirky roadside attraction, he’s a beloved symbol of the local community.

At 20 by 12 feet, he’s hard to miss, and I’m sure he’s brought a smile to many faces.

Now, Stoney’s had his ups and downs, just like any legend. I heard he had to undergo some repair work back in 1998 – over 200 bullet holes patched, a stolen tail replaced, and a shiny new paint job for good measure.

Then in 2021, he had another makeover. He got a horn reattached, 32 new bullet holes patched, and repairs to his tail and a few more. He also received yet another fresh coat of paint.

I’m thrilled to see people snapping photos with him; he’s like a big, friendly beacon along Montana Highway 200 and 83!

You can tell his owners really care about him. I just know he’ll continue to stand guard for years to come.

Best Western Plus – Liberty Lake, Washington

During a recent adventure from Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Burnaby, BC, my humans decided to stop over at the Best Western Hotel in Liberty Lake, Washington. Let me tell you, as BOB, your well-travelled rubber duck, this turned out to be one quack-tastic choice!

From the moment we entered the lobby, we could feel the welcoming atmosphere. In fact, the friendly staff greeted us with smiles that could brighten even the cloudiest of days! Their warm and welcoming attitudes are exactly what every traveller needs. Whether you’re human or, in my case, a charming rubber duck, it makes a difference. They assured us we had everything we needed and told us the happy hour would start in a couple of hours.

The room at the Best Western Hotel was not just spacious and clean, but also incredibly comfortable. It was so inviting that I almost felt like nestling down for the night early.

But the cherry on top of our stay was the legendary happy hour hosted by none other than the enthusiastic Nick! By day, he’s a mechanic. However, by evening, he transforms into the life of the party at the hotel. With delicious beverages flowing and a taco bar that would make anyone’s mouth water, my humans and I felt like we were at a five-star fiesta!

Nick had a talent for bringing people together. As we enjoyed our tacos, stories flowed like a river of laughter.

We met a travelling couple and their little duckling, who were visiting family before a major surgery, what bravery! There was also a fellow motorcycle enthusiast sharing tales of the open road. Yet another couple were there to pick up a new car; they had once babysat Evil Knievel’s son! Can you believe it? Each person has a story. When you take the time to engage, it adds colour to your experience.

After a delightful evening, we followed Nick’s recommendation and headed to a charming, locally owned restaurant. Filled with camaraderie and culinary delights, we returned to our cozy nest at the Best Western Hotel. The comfortable room and quiet surroundings ensured a restful night’s sleep, leaving us rejuvenated for the next day’s adventures.

The next morning, we woke up refreshed from the delightful complimentary breakfast and set off for Burnaby with smiles on our faces and fond memories in our hearts.

Today, I am sharing my experience at the Clark and Lewie’s Pub and Grill at the O’Haire Inn in Great Falls, Montana.

The restaurant exuded a welcoming vibe that made me, a rubber ducky, feel right at home.

My little rubber ducky heart fluffed with delight as I watched people enjoy their meals, and laughter filled the air.

We were greeted by the ever-welcoming server, Amanda.

This charming gal wasn’t just taking orders; she was like a spark of sunshine, making each guest feel like a special friend.

Her exceptional service made us feel valued and important. It was evident that she genuinely cared about everyone’s dining experience.

As she glided from table to table, I noticed how she greeted patrons by name. She often knew precisely what they wanted to eat, which was incredibly impressive!

I couldn’t help but feel the heartwarming atmosphere wash over me!

We started with a cocktail as recommended by Amanda.

She created a masterpiece that was as refreshing as it looked.

I wish my little duck brain could recall the name or at least the ingredients?!?

For our meal, we decided on fish and chips, a choice that proved to be a culinary treasure!

The generous portion was not only satisfying but also left enough leftovers for my humans to take home. The next day, they enjoyed another adventure with the food!

The fish was tender, the chips were crispy, and the overall taste was simply delicious.

The cheerful mood in the restaurant was contagious, and I like to think Amanda was the driving force behind it.

Her enthusiastic engagement with every table brought smiles all around. It truly felt like a community gathering. Everyone was welcome to share in the joy of good food and warm company.

As I floated around Great Falls, it became evident that the O’Haire Inn is more than just a hotel; it’s a vibrant community hub.

Friendly locals eagerly asked if we’d visited the famous O’Haire’s Sip ‘n Dip bar and their beloved Clark and Lewie’s Pub and Grill.

Their excitement was contagious.

It was clear that this was a spot where both visitors and residents came together to create lasting memories.

From the moment I waddled through its tall, welcoming doors, I was enveloped in a unique charm that felt like a warm embrace.

Each corner whispered stories of past guests and cherished memories, adding to the Inn’s allure.

The dedicated staff greeted us like old friends, their faces lighting up with enthusiasm as they introduced us to the inn’s wonderful features.

Then, they revealed the star of the show: SID, their very own rubber duck celebrity!

SID is quite a phenomenon with a legacy is nothing short of extraordinary.

Back in 1996, Sandy, who would later become the owner, had an idea: why not include rubber ducks in the guest rooms?

The result? A quacking success!

Guests fell in love with the ducks and began taking them on adventures around the globe. Snapping photos along the way!

O’Haire’s Inn has given over 50,000 ducks to their guests throughout the years!

They have received pictures back from their worldly ducks from all over the world.

Mexico, France, Budapest, and beyond.

Now that’s what I call a rubber duck dynasty!

It warmed my little rubber heart to witness the connections that the O’Haire Inn fosters among families and friends through these duck tales.

Listening to the staff recount the adventures of SID’s friends sparked my imagination.

I could picture the happiness they brought to countless faces around the world.

With every delightful sip at the Sip ‘n Dip and every mouthwatering dish at the Clark and Lewie’s, I felt a little piece of the O’Haires’ magic infuse my very being.

Fort Union Trading Post – Williston, North Dakota

Bob here to quack about my enlightening journey to Fort Union Trading Post in North Dakota.

Picture a bustling hub of trade and culture straight out of the 1800s.

As I bobbed along, I could feel the whispers of the past all around me.

Fort Union Trading Post isn’t just a cool historical site; it’s a treasure chest of fur trading history and a testament to the power of cultural exchange!

Nestled at the crossroads of the Yellowstone and Missouri Rivers, this location was a vital trading center back in the day.

Traders and Native Americans mingled, exchanged goods, and shared stories here.

Visiting here is like stepping into a lively time capsule where muskets clashed with whispers of diplomacy.

Once you arrive, you’ll be drawn to the beautifully reconstructed fort, inviting you to explore its history-rich grounds.

The fort was established in 1828 and quickly became a hub for the Northern Rocky Mountain Fur Trade.

The insights from knowledgeable staff, coupled with interpretive signs throughout the site, led me deeper into the fascinating past of Fort Union.

At its peak in the 1830s, it sent astonishing quantities of beaver skins, deer skins, and buffalo hides back to St. Louis. Over 25,000 beaver skins alone!

Can you imagine?

I choked on my rubber ducky laughter thinking about all that fur floating downriver!

Tales of life at the trading post, where traders and Native Americans engaged in commerce, camaraderie, and the occasional spat, were oh so fascinating!

The artifacts on display were mind-blowing!

Each piece, from beautifully crafted beads to rugged tools and elegant fur pelts, whispered stories of the past.

With each artifact, I felt a deep sense of connection to the skilled hands that made them.

Floating through this cornucopia of culture felt like I was swimming in a sea of history.

I can imagine traders bustling about, skillfully bartering for goods, and a chorus of laughter bouncing off the fort’s walls.

It was an atmosphere vibrant with life, showcasing not just trade but the essence of human connection and shared experiences.

However, life at the trading post wasn’t without its conflicts.

There were moments when as many as 10,000 tribe members from various cultures would camp on the grounds.

The site sometimes witnessed tensions and violence between these tribes over trade misunderstandings.

Traders had to step up as peacekeepers to ensure business continued smoothly.

As the years rolled on into the mid-1830s, the fur trade started to wane, and by the mid-1850s, the fort changed hands multiple times, ultimately losing its monetary allure.

Visiting the Fort Union Trading Post was like diving into a vibrant tapestry of history, woven with knowledge, fascinating artifacts, and captivating stories.

As I reflect on my adventures, I can’t help but feel gratitude for the rich heritage that thrives here in North Dakota.

Cowboys Bar and Museum – Great Falls, Montana

BOB here, splashing in with exciting news about a must-visit gem: Montana’s Cowboys Bar and Museum!

Now, let me save you from the rookie mistake my humans made. We strolled in at 8 am expecting breakfast, completely glossing over the word “BAR” in the name! Oops!

But no worries! The friendly folks at the Cowboys Bar and Museum shared a hearty laugh.

They offered to set us up with a refreshing beer, which we politely declined, and, since we were the only patrons at that hour, treated us to a personal tour.

Imagine being transported back to the wild days of the American West, all within the cozy confines of a charming log cabin from the 1930s.

This unique setting is a goldmine of over 500 fascinating artifacts from the cowboy era.

Rawhide ropes, sturdy ox yokes, and gleaming spurs line the walls.

The enthusiastic crew from the Montana Cowboys Association runs the museum.

They’re always eager to welcome new friends to celebrate their storied cowboy legacy.

If you are curious about cowboy culture, don’t hesitate to reach out or paddle your way over for a visit.

You’ll encounter genuine items once wielded by cowboys, like branding irons and cowpoke saddles.

Don’t miss the beautifully crafted custom-made saddles!

And how about the Kimball reed organ floated down the river from St. Louis to Fort Benton in 1876!

Now that’s a tale worth telling!

Gun enthusiasts will delight in the incredible historical pieces on display.

The collection includes an old muzzleloading shotgun and a stunning flintlock rifle, perfect treasures for spinning a few cowboy yarns!

There’s even a great poster from the 1946 Calgary Stampede. These guys have everything, Cowboy!

1904 Girls Championship Team – Fort Shaw, Montana

Bob here diving into the inspiring story of the remarkable Fort Shaw Girls Basketball Team, which made waves back in the early 1900s.

A shiny metal arch and a grand granite monument stand proudly to honour ten incredible Native American girls.

They weren’t just dribbling a ball; they were making history as they overcame great challenges and soared to become stellar basketball players.

The highlight of the team was earning the title of “World Basketball Champions” in 1904!

Let’s paddle back to 1892 when the federal government opened the doors to Fort Shaw with a plan that wasn’t so bubbly.

These off-reservation boarding schools aimed to teach students English

and prepare them for jobs in domestic service and other industries.

Then came 1896! Josephine Langley, their inspiring physical culture instructor, introduced basketball to the girls at Fort Shaw.

Oh, what excitement! The sport was beginning to bounce onto the scene, and these girls couldn’t get enough of it.

In 1897, they held a thrilling intramural basketball demonstration that wowed an enthusiastic crowd, marking the birth of high school basketball in Montana.

The girls on this legendary team came from diverse tribes, united with a shared story of resilience and strength.

Many were daughters of indigenous women and white men, and they all faced their unique struggles, having lost loved ones or endured hardships.

But their spirits were as bright as my cheerful yellow hue!

Fast forward to 1902, when the team made its competitive debut!

Even though they faced some tough opponents, like Butte and Helena High, they captured the hearts of the fans.

With Montanans rallying behind them, the Fort Shaw team grew in number and fame, playing “home” games at Luther Hall in Great Falls.

Eager crowds flocked to see them play!

Superintendent Fred Campbell recognized the weighty benefits of having such a remarkable group of athletes.

Through teamwork and athleticism, these girls were gaining confidence and shattering stereotypes.

As they entertained the crowd with their talents, they helped to change perceptions, proving that the spirit of the game knows no bounds.

In 1903, an invitation to the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis came knocking!

Campbell wasted no time and picked the ten star athletes to represent Fort Shaw at the Model Indian School, showcasing their hard-earned achievements.

Accompanied by chaperone Lizzie Wirth, these girls glided into the fair, ready to make a splash.

And quite the splash it was with them securing the Championship!

And so, dear friends, the story of the Fort Shaw Girls Basketball Team is one of triumph over adversity, friendship, and the sheer joy of sports.

From the depths of cultural turmoil, these young athletes rose, proving that determination can turn challenges into victories!

Veteran’s War Memorial – Great Falls, Montana

As I found myself perched on the edge of the Veterans War Memorial in Great Falls, Montana, a profound sense of duty washed over me.

This hallowed ground, overlooking the Missouri River, serves as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices countless individuals made to preserve freedom for all.

The mission of this memorial is deeply resonant:

“To honor and recognize all Veterans of all branches of military service to the United States of America in peace and in war.

Veteran defined as any man or woman of any age who has served in any branch of the military of the United States of America in any capacity.

To honor men and women living and deceased equally.”

Known as “A Place of Honor”, the memorial is thoughtfully designed.

Featuring striking sculptures,

benches for contemplative reflection,

and spaces for families to gather.

Most notably, it features over 8,500 name plaques honoring women and men who have valiantly served the United States.

Throughout the history of the United States, the toll of war has been heavy.

More than 650,000 military personnel have been lost in conflicts since the Revolutionary War.

This number grows exponentially when we account for those injured or affected by the ravages of war.

Thus, while the 8,500 name plaques represent a significant tribute, they are but a fraction of the many who have selflessly dedicated their lives to service.

Great Falls, home to five military installations, is prominently reflected in this memorial.

Moreover, the memorial embodies inclusivity, welcoming anyone across the nation to submit the names of their loved ones.

Whether past or present, living or deceased, their names can be honored on its walls.

As I floated among the rows of name plaques, I couldn’t help but ponder the enormity of their contributions.

The bravery of these individuals has safeguarded not only a nation. In addition, it has protected the ideals of freedom and safety that many often take for granted.

Though I am but a rubber duck, I am acutely aware of the value of friendship between nations. Particularly, I see this value between Canada and the United States.

With gratitude, I acknowledge the sacrifices of those who have fought bravely.

Bird Houses on 5th Avenue – Williston, North Dakota

Have you ever been cruising down the highway and suddenly spotted something so peculiar that it made you squawk out loud, “What in the world is that?”

That’s precisely what happened on our adventure from Williston, North Dakota, to Sidney, Montana!

And boy, did I find a gem that brought a delightful surprise to our journey!

As my human drove along, I kept my beady eyes peeled for anything that might catch my attention.

There it was, a charming little house on the corner of the highway and 5th Avenue, decked out with at least 75 unique birdhouses!

They were not just colourful and quirky, but also had an irresistible charm!

We didn’t stop on that first pass, but trust me, I flapped my little wings and quacked so loud that my human couldn’t ignore my beckoning. “Stop, stop! We need to investigate!” I insisted.

So, with a quick turn and a few quacks of excitement, we zoomed back to the birdhouse wonderland.

We hopped out and knocked on the door, our curiosity bubbling over.

But alas, no one answered!

Feeling a bit deflated, we were about to give up.

Just then, a car rolled into the driveway, and out popped a delightful lady, let’s call her Birdie.

Birdie grinned from ear to ear as my human asked her about her eclectic collection.

It turned out that several years ago, Birdie started with just three quirky birdhouses to entice my feathered friends to visit.

But before she knew it, whenever someone wanted to gift her something, they brought a unique addition!

It was like a never-ending birdhouse party that just sort of… happened!

And let me tell you, she has a spot for each one, adorning her front yard, hanging from trees, and perched on fences, truly a birdhouse bonanza!

Curious about how many bird families flock to her charming abode?

Sadly, Birdie confessed that only about three families make their homes there each year.

It seems some of my feathered kin can be a bit territorial, claiming her yard as their own and scaring off the rest.

Rest assured, though, they must still put on a colourful show for Birdie.

One of the most whimsical sights I spotted was a vibrant display of bright blue birdhouses right in front of her lawn.

Each house was painted with cheerful SpongeBob SquarePants characters!

I couldn’t help but quack with joy at the creativity. I asked Birdie if she was a fan of the show.

With a laugh, she explained that her great-niece had decided she needed these SpongeBob houses.

So, she traced the images and using her artistic talent brought them to life!

Birdie is one kind-hearted lady, and meeting her made my rubbery little heart swell with joy.

I was so glad we took a detour to investigate this delightful little wonder on the way.

After all, who knew that a simple drive could lead to such a splendid adventure?

Splashing in glee, I quacked a joyful farewell to Birdie as we left, already dreaming of our next quirky roadside encounter!

I just had an unforgettable breakfast experience at Family Affair in Great Falls, Montana, and I can’t wait to share it with you!

I waddled through the doors at 10 AM, and wow, Family Affair was bustling!

An enthusiastic crowd waited outside, eager to dive into a delicious breakfast.

The energy in the air was contagious, making me even more excited to see what was in store.

Now, let me tell you about the service at Family Affair.

A remarkable woman was juggling orders and happiness like a pro!

Her warm smile was as inviting as the warm biscuits I was about to taste.

She zipped around the restaurant, making sure every guest felt special, whether they were part of a family, a couple, or dining solo.

It was heartwarming to see such a diverse mix of people coming together for a shared meal!

Sitting next to us were what appeared to be three generations of ladies, all sharing their excitement over the menu, which is a testament to the timeless yet modern menu choices.

Ah, the food at Family Affair! Let’s get to the good stuff.

The biscuits and gravy platter was an absolute showstopper!

A hearty helping of eggs, sausage, and hash browns paired with fluffy and heavenly cheese biscuits, smothered in a savoury gravy that had my little rubber duck heart soaring!

And then there were the Chef’s Hot Cakes!

These were not your typical hot cakes at all. The batter was infused with potato and bacon.

Can you believe it? A savoury twist that was simply divine! Each bite was a delightful blend of flavours that made my beak smile from ear to ear.

The cash register was located at the irresistible bakery showcase!

First on the must-see list is the striking 21-foot pyramid-shaped monument that marks Rugby’s proud claim of being center stage on the map.

It’s not just a tall tale, folks; it’s a photo op just begging for a quacking rubber duck like me to pose beside it!

North Dakota Pyramid – Nekoma, North Dakota

Bobbing along the sprawling fields of North Dakota, my little rubber duck eyes darted around.

Hold on a second, what’s that on the horizon?

Could it be a giant pyramid?

My curiosity was piqued, and I couldn’t contain my excitement.

I urgently flapped my wings, urging my humans to veer off the beaten path for a detour of discovery.

Welcome to the North Dakota Pyramid, nestled in the heart of “somewhere, not quite nowhere.”

But don’t let the term “pyramid” mislead you into thinking of ancient Egypt.

Instead, this impressive concrete behemoth is a Cold War remnant rather than a pharaonic relic!

The North Dakota Pyramid is part of the Stanley R. Mickelsen Safeguard Complex (SRMSC)and was constructed by the US government.

The pyramid is not just a quirky construction.

It is a critical defense system intended to protect the Minuteman missile fields at Grand Forks Air Force Base.

These are designed to defend against potential Soviet missile strikes.

Positioned near the Canadian border, the SRMSC had a unique mission during the Cold War.

It housed a defense system designed to buy valuable time for the Strategic Air Command to launch a counter-strike.

Back in those days, they didn’t have today’s sleek precision interceptors.

The first line of defense was perimeter radar, a true watchful guardian.

Notably, it was capable of spotting intercontinental ballistic missiles from hundreds of miles away.

The Missile Site Radar would spring into action when a threat was detected.

At that point, it would deploy Sprint missiles to intercept the dangers headed straight for the US.

The road to construction for the pyramid site wasn’t smooth sailing.

Kicking off in 1968, the project faced stiff opposition from suburban residents.

Understandably, they didn’t want to live next door to a unique military installation.

However, the Safeguard System project moved forward and became operational in October 1975.

However, its reign was short-lived, as it was shut down six months later, in April 1976.

Despite its brief operational period, the North Dakota Pyramid stands as a testament to human ingenuity.

It also reminds us of the tense geopolitical climate of the time.

Some believe that even its construction was instrumental in getting the parties to the table to negotiate the end of the Cold War.

As I float around this monumental marvel, I can’t help but wonder about all the secret tales it might tell if only it could quack!

Today I am paddling my way to one of the most scrumptious spots in Winnipeg, Manitoba: Goodies Bake Shop!

Goodies Bake Shop, a beloved fixture in our cozy Winnipeg community, has a rich history dating back to 1984.

It was founded by passionate Ukrainians who understood that the secret to happiness lies in homemade treats.

In its early days, the shop’s lineup was filled with warm muffins and gooey cinnamon buns that could make even the grumpiest duck crack a smile.

But wait, here’s where things get interesting!

Five years after it opened its charming doors, a dashing professional hair stylist, Ignazio Scaletta, took a chance on this sweet venture.

With his involvement, Ignazio ignited a passion that had lain dormant since childhood.

Picture this: a 10-year-old Ignazio working at his father’s bakery in Italy, dreaming of whipping up delightful pastries before he floated to Canada in 1960.

In 1991, Ignazio bought out the partnership and transformed it into a fantastic Italian bakery, adding biscotti, cannoli, and even luscious gelato!

Talk about a treat makeover!

Fast-forward to 2001, Ignazio realized he needed more space to unleash his baking magic.

So he moved the bakery to its current cozy nook on Ellice Avenue

Now there is plenty of room for pastry perfection and plentiful parking for delightful visitors like you and me!

In August 2015, the bakery’s ownership transitioned to a fabulous trio: Dario, Maksym, and Linda.

The group was nervous but super excited to carry on the legacy of love-filled baking.

And carry it on they did!

Goodies Bake Shop has blossomed into a must-visit destination for locals and tourists alike, showcasing a trove of artisanal goodies that pay homage to the good ol’ days of home baking.

White Horse – St. Francis Xavier, Manitoba

Hey there, friends! As a local resident and a frequent visitor to the lovely waters of St. Francois Xavier in Manitoba, I’ve stumbled upon a fascinating tale about a place known as White Horse Plain. So, grab a floating snack and let’s dive into this captivating story!

The year is 1824, and a little hamlet named Grantown is born.

Just 18 miles west of where I bob along today, which is now known as St. Francois Xavier. This charming spot lies right on the edge of the Canadian prairies, and they say it’s the “Gateway to the West.” It’s got a history thicker than a duck’s layer of rubber!

Long before the settlers arrived, this land was a hub of activity for the Indigenous peoples. It was especially for the Crees, known for their splendid celebrations and gatherings.

But let me tell you about the legend that gives this plain its name.

It’s a tale passed down for centuries—way older than me! In the 17th century, the fierce Sioux pushed the Cree further north towards Hudson Bay. The Crees found themselves in a tough spot, fighting for survival and food.

Enter the white men from Hudson Bay, who brought guns for trading!

Suddenly, the tables turned!

The Crees transformed from desperate to daring, becoming the ultimate warriors, sending the Sioux packing. But don’t think it was peaceful just yet; oh no! The Sioux were still lurking about, making sure to keep an eye on their powerful neighbours.

Then one bright summer in the 1690s, the drama escalated at a camp along the Assiniboine River. The Assiniboine chief had a stunning daughter. Two handsome suitors came to vie for her affection: a Cree chief and a Sioux chief.

Both were ready to charm, but the Cree brought along a sensational gift—a magnificent white horse, as pure as freshly fallen snow!

This wasn’t just any horse—it was a “Blanco Diablo,” a renowned breed from Mexico that could outpace anything on the prairie! Can you imagine the excitement? The father of the beautiful daughter was practically quacking in delight!

But hang on; this one has twists just like any good story!

A powerful medicine man within the Assiniboine tribe raised a ruckus. He wasn’t too keen on the Cree joining their family tree.

“It’s a disgrace!” he yelled. He was determined to stir up trouble, insisting they shouldn’t mix their blood with their foes.

Despite the medicine man’s protests, the wedding plans continued as the Sioux chief was off on a war expedition. But the medicine man had tricks up his sleeve! He secretly sent word to the Sioux chief about the impending marriage. Talk about a plot twist!

On the big day, the Cree chief arrived, dressed up and leading his beautiful white horse. Chaos erupted just when the festivities began! Dust clouds rolled in as the vengeful Sioux chief charged into the scene, warriors in tow!

The Assiniboine chief quickly returned the horse to his new son-in-law and told him to take his new bride and flee to safety. So off they went with the groom galloping on his grey stallion and the bride proudly racing ahead of him on the prized white horse.

I might be a simple floating duck, but I tell you, the tension on that prairie must have been thicker than my rubbery exterior!

Cries of excitement and panic filled the air. I could imagine the wild splashes and reactions as the festivities turned into a showdown!

The Sioux chief was not finished. He wanted the revenge he came for, so he tracked down the newlyweds and shot them off their horses.

Legend has it that they were able to catch the grey horse the groom was riding. But the famous white steed ran off, never to be caught.

For many years that followed, now and then, someone would spot this great white horse on the prairie. Thus the area became known as White Horse Plain.

Whether the marriage happened or chaos took the stage, one thing’s for sure: the legend of White Horse Plain is as thrilling as a ride downstream.

World’s Largest Coke Can – Portage la Prairie, Manitoba

Hello, friends! It’s me, BOB the rubber duck. I’m here to share a quacking good tale about one of the most renowned landmarks in Portage la Prairie. Yes, you guessed it, the world’s largest Coke can!

I had the pleasure of visiting this colossal creation on my recent road trip to meet family in rural Manitoba. Let me tell you, it was a splash of fun!

Standing tall at an impressive 85 feet, this magnificent can towers over the southwest corner of the parking lot at the Canad Inns hotel. Can you imagine being that big? It’s like the ultimate sponge for collecting memories.

Originally closer to the highway, it had to shift to its current spot when the Canadian Tire opened. This shift made space for all the bustling activity that followed the closure of Club West in 1999.

But what makes this towering landmark so special? The BOB sticker?

Well, it wasn’t always a Coke can! Originally a water tower built by Manitoba Iron Works Limited back in 1905. It was made for a water treatment plant in Winnipeg. If that isn’t a twist in the story, I don’t know what is!

Once painted with the iconic Coca-Cola logo, it became a unique sight. It shines bright and attracts travellers just like me.

While you might think this colossal can serves primarily as a bold advertisement for the Coke, it was created without any involvement from the Coca-Cola company . Now that’s a fun fact!

Interestingly, there were initial plans to paint it as a giant Budweiser can. The city thought that beer may be the wrong landmark so they altered course and decided to celebrate the refreshing drink we all know and love.

Roadside attractions like this are a fantastic reason to take a break during a long drive. They give you a little taste of local culture, some photo ops, and a chance to stretch your legs or wings. Just what I needed!

When you’re cruising along the highways in North America, give yourself a break and stop by these roadside wonders. They offer a quirky piece of history. Who knows, they may even bring a smile to your face like it did for me! Quack-tastic adventures await!

Bothwell Cheese Factory – New Bothwell, Manitoba

Today I’m floating through rural Manitoba, specifically the charming village of New Bothwell.

I had the absolute pleasure of waddling into the iconic Bothwell Cheese Factory. Let me tell you, it was a quack-tastic experience filled with rich history and delightful aromas!

Bothwell Cheese Factory was founded in 1936 by Frank Giesbrecht and Bernhard Dueck.

This cheese factory started as a minor miracle where local farmers could turn their excess milk into something scrumptious.

The early days were a testament to the dedication of the farmers who lugged heavy cans of milk, earning just half a cent per pound.

And lets not forget workers who endured long shifts in a toasty cheese-making plant.

Fast forward to the present, and Bothwell has blossomed into one of Canada’s premier cheese makers, still holding that artisan spirit close to its heart.

The factory has grown from just three employees to over 60, maintaining its commitment to quality and craftsmanship.

It processes an impressive 24,000 to 29,000 kilograms of cheese daily, using 100% fresh local milk from nearby farms.

Now that’s cheese-making magic!

Then comes my favourite part: The Cheese Shop!

As I floated around the delightful cheese shop, my feathery heart filled with joy at the sight of the vast selection.

With 25 varieties of cheese ranging from rich cheddar to unique lactose-free options and even fresh curds, there’s something for every cheese lover.

Not wanting to miss out, my humans picked up a selection of local goodies.

First on the list?

The cheese curds!

Oh, my quack, they were the perfect texture, squeaky and fresh!

I may have indulged just a tad more than I should have as I soaked up the mouthwatering atmosphere.

Next came the perogies.

We couldn’t resist snagging two types: cottage cheese and potato bacon.

These extra-large dumplings, once fried to golden perfection, sent me into a flavour frenzy!

And there was more!

We grabbed some locally made pasta to elevate our next family dinner into a grand feast.

And that sour cherry jam!

It wasn’t just jam but a sweet yet tangy creation that danced across my taste buds!

Just imagine slathering it on warm artisanal bread, now that’s what I call a treat!

He envisioned a place that highlights unique Canadian-sourced ingredients through fine-dining options in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Known for his engaging personality and captivating stories, Scot often makes the rounds in the restaurant, ensuring everyone feels the warmth and passion he brings to his craft.

My human has been a loyal patron of Fusion Grill since its inception, and I can understand why!

Chef Lorna Murdoch, a culinary wizard whose journey spans the breadth of Canada, whips up dishes that are a symphony of local flavors delicately entwined with global influences.

Every meal is an adventure, tempting even a rubber duck like me to dive right in!

And speaking of incredible experiences, let’s talk about Raul!

He’s a gem of a server with genuine passion for hospitality that shines through in every interaction.

With impeccable timing, he ensures that our plates arrive just when we’re ready for the next taste, and he always keeps our glasses filled.

It’s as if he possesses a magical memory, recalling our favorites from previous visits and making us feel like VIPs at a star-studded gala.

Before we even caught a glimpse of the menu, Raul crafted their signature cocktail, the Fusion Royale.

This sparkling concoction was nothing short of enchanting.

Every sip was a delightful sparkle on my tongue, especially with a brandied cherry added, courtesy of Scot’s lovely mother.

What a treat!

Next up, Raul expertly paired our meal with a splendid bottle of Canadian wine from Orofino Vineyards in British Columbia.

It was rich and full-bodied, enhancing the vibrant flavors of Fusion Grill and adding a golden touch to our dining experience.

Raul’s enthusiasm for the menu is contagious, so not only did he suggest a fantastic wine, but we also asked him to expertly select sharing plates from the appetizer options on the menu.

So, let’s dive into his choices, which were a treasure trove for our taste buds!

A new treat on the menu was Smoked Steelhead Trout, what a delightful surprise! The smokiness added a depth that paired perfectly with fresh accompaniments. I dreamed of swimming in a pool filled with that exquisite trout.

Then came an all-time favourite: Crispy Vegetable Dumplings. These crispy treats were filled with fresh vegetables and herbs, providing a refreshing crunch that danced alongside the other appetizers, a joyous playtime for my taste buds!

We rounded the appetizer journey with succulent Mussels, steamed to perfection and kissed by a bright broth infused with garlic and herbs. I could virtually float in that sea of flavors!

As much as we wanted to keep indulging in Fusion Grill’s culinary wonders, we didn’t have room to continue.

The restaurant’s warm and inviting ambiance made my humans feel relaxed and unhurried.

They were able to savor every moment, including polishing off the wine and ending with a delightful finish of spiked Blueberry Tea.

What a perfect way to close another memorable dining adventure at a beloved establishment!

Fusion Grill isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a vibrant fusion of culinary traditions that embodies the essence of Canada itself.

Bob here with a story written last year about the Sales Savvy Family Man who we lost on July 15, 2026, and today, September 14th, is his birthday.

Buckle up, because I’m about to take you on a ride through the life of a true gem: the one and only Sales Savvy Family Man, Harry!

Picture a bright yellow rubber duck with a beak for storytelling, floating alongside a sprightly 91-year-old dynamo.

Harry, the ultimate family man and sales wizard!

His life has been a delightfully winding ride!

Harry, with his charming personality and sparkling blue eyes, had an enthusiasm for life that could light up a whole farm!

Born in 1933, he spent his childhood frolicking in the sunny fields of his family farm, likely making mischief with the chickens as he planted seeds and herded them like a little farm general!

“You reap what you sow!” he always said, and this motto has been his trusty compass through every twist and turn of life.

Fast forward to Harry’s early twenties when he met Kristine, the love of his life!

Together, they built a home filled with laughter, love, and two fantastic kids.

Harry wasn’t just a dad; he was the ultimate life coach!

Chores? They turned into epic adventures!

You could hear spontaneous karaoke while pulling weeds, with Harry swinging advice and humour like a pro!

But wait, there’s a plot twist! After more than two decades of farming, Harry discovered the challenging world f corporate real estate.

One day, a friend said, “Hey, Harry, why not try selling?”

Imagine Harry’s eyebrows shooting up, as he declared, “sounds like a plan.”

Excited and a tad bewildered, he dove headfirst into sales, quickly snagging the title of “Go-To Guy”.

He fostered relationships across Manitoba faster than I could paddle across a bathtub!

His success led him to the head of the pack in Manitoba so the next step would be a move to Ontario.

But forever the family man, he turned down the offer and kept his family close to his roots.

Harry transitioned his focus to selling crop insurance, a move that demonstrated his profound understanding of the evolving needs of his fellow farmers.

He recognized that with unpredictable weather and tough seasons, insurance could be a farmer’s best friend.

It was like finding the ultimate flotation device for everyone in the agricultural family, a testament to Harry’s commitment to his community.

One of Harry’s proudest moments came when he was challenged to double the contracts in his crop insurance territory.

He hit the ground running, attending farm events, sharing stories, and lending a listening ear.

With every handshake, he built more than just a territory; he built trust and friendships.

By the end of it all, he didn’t just meet his goals; he crushed them!

He expanded his insurance contracts to an incredible 98% of the farmlands in his territory, a testament to his dedication and hard work.

But Harry wasn’t done yet; oh no! He set his sights on 100%.

There was one family that believed their faith was enough to protect their farm, so they did not need insurance.

As a man of faith, Harry respected their choice.

However, one night, while watching the news, he saw this family sandbagging their house to protect it from the flood of the century in Manitoba.

Without a second thought, Harry donned his work clothes and headed out to help.

As he stood shoulder to shoulder with the family’s mother, he asked why she was working so hard on the sandbags.

When she responded to save her farm, Harry grinned and said I thought your faith was enough to protect the farm.

The lady instructed him to draft the insurance policy for their crops.

Boom! 100% insured territory achieved!

His perseverance, hard work, and knack for crafting the perfect pitch enabled him to reach his lofty goal, which is truly an inspiration.

Harry lived independently in his Winnipeg home until his 91st birthday, when he transitioned to an assisted living environment.

Harry quickly added new friends to his list as he adjusted to life in a senior living center.

His persuasive tendencies ensured he had breakfast served at noon, even though breakfast service stopped at 10:30 am.

The delightful staff affectionately started calling him Happy Harry, as they bent the rules just a little letting Harry have his way.

There he would be maneuvering his scooter expertly through the dining area, with his eyes twinkling with glee for being a rule breaker!

Harry’s apartment was adorned with family photos, trophies of a life well-lived.

His siblings, kids and grandkids gather around, eagerly soaking up his tales from his days on the farm to his wild adventures in sales.

With every story he shared, he spread the importance of perseverance, integrity, and the joy of hard work.

Harry was not just a man; he was an inspiration!

Harry’s life is a testament to the fact that life is not measured by the treasures we accumulate but by the hearts we touch along the way.

Magnificent Mom – Florida

Nestled in Florida’s sun-soaked state is a remarkable woman named Angie we will call her the Magnificent Mom.

This magnificent mom stretches her mothering instinct far beyond her children. Being a mom is a big enough job, but she’s not just a mom; she’s a paralegal prodigy, a business maven, a scrapbooking sensation, and a motorcycle enthusiast. Her story is like no other!

Everywhere Angie goes, she radiates positivity like the sun on a perfect day at the beach.

I’m sure everyone has their off days (even yours truly might float a little askew at times), but I’ve yet to see Angie without that dazzling smile.

She’s like a supermom with a cape made of kindness!

And she does all of this while juggling the roles of entrepreneur, social media guru, teacher, and, of course, a devoted mom and wife.

Now, let’s rewind to discover how she got to this fabulous place in life.

Picture a young Angie, only 18, living independently just down the street from her parents.

Dreaming big, she couldn’t wait to dive into the world of paralegal work.

With a leap and a splash. She started her journey, quickly outpacing her formally trained peers. I’d say she’s like that bright toy sailing across the water, leaving all the other ducks in her wake!

Then she met a man with a similar spirit, and they married!

With dreams of raising a family, she knew she needed something to keep her at home when those cute little ducklings arrived.

After some quackerjack teamwork, she joined her husband in operating a credit card processing business, but Angie wasn’t done yet!

With a passion for scrapbooking, she dove headfirst, distributing supplies and teaching others the craft. You bet she mastered it!

Soon enough, the warm Florida sun called out to her and her family.

Ever the planner, Angie orchestrated the perfect move, carefully timing it so her kids could start high school in their new sunny surroundings.

Off they went, and like a proud duck following her hatchlings, she helped her family take their next big leap.

Once settled, Angie didn’t sit back and drink in the sunshine!

She launched her Personal Assistant business, gathering clients like I gather bubbles in a bath.

Whether organizing insurance claims or tackling bookkeeping, her charm and relentless energy had clients lining up.

Every completed project seemed to spark new needs, but she always found a way to help.

Pushing through obstacles faster than I float past a rubber whale!

Angie’s compassion shines like a beacon despite all the hustle and bustle.

On a recent visit, she noticed my humans struggling with populating our website.

With a heart as big as the ocean, she put the brakes on what she was doing, swooped in and coached them through.

Who needs life buoys when you have Angie around?

Today, she and her husband run a vibrant community for motorcycle enthusiasts, a venture they launched in 2020. Why motorcycle enthusiasts?

They say that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!

Angie’s parents have passed down their passion for motorcycles. Angie’s mom shared with me that Angie’s first motorcycle ride was at just six weeks old!

Raising a family took precedence over her love for riding, and even though she enjoyed being the passenger, she knew she wanted to be the rider one day.

In true Angie style, she earned her motorcycle license within a month!

At the start of the month, she took her beginner’s driver’s test, and about one month later, she embarked on the challenging Tail of the Dragon.

Angie is a force to be reckoned with, letting nothing stand in her way!

So, here’s a quack of gratitude to Angie!

An inspiring whirlwind of kindness and determination who shows us that you can paddle through anything life throws at you with a sprinkle of passion and a dash of compassion.

Successful Squirrel – Florida

Have you ever seen a squirrel darting around your backyard like it’s auditioning for a role in an acrobatic show?

Well, let me tell you, this little critter is not just any bushy-tailed rascal.

The subject of my inspirational human today has the energy and determination of a squirrel.

His human name is Sonny, and his story is as thrilling as a rollercoaster ride on a warm Florida day!

Picture a fluffy ball of energy zooming up a tree.

Suddenly, he hears a delightful “clink” – a peanut drops from above!

Without missing a beat, he spirals down the tree, snatches his treasure, and starts piling it high for the winter.

This action is what brings Sonny to mind; he never misses an opportunity.

Now, let’s dip into Sonny’s past, shall we?

This adventurous guy was dealt some rough cards.

Orphaned at the tender age of two, he found himself adopted by a loving couple who desperately wanted kids but couldn’t have any of their own.

Growing up on a charming family farm, Sonny quickly realized that unpaid work on the family farm was the way of life.

However, earning money at the neighbour’s farm sounded much more profitable!

What did he do? He hustled his way into a job next door. Talk about savvy!

But life wasn’t all sunshine and daisies.

In his teenage years, he faced heartbreak as he lost his adoptive mom to cancer, followed by another gut punch when his dad passed, too.

That’s a lot for any creature to bear – I couldn’t even imagine floating down a stream with such weight.

Yet, rather than drift away on waves of despair, Squirrel took to life with a spirit meant for soaring!

This guy had talent – mechanical talent!

By the age of 19, Sonny was a master mechanic, laboring tirelessly to support his family. Sonny became the rock they both leaned on when his dad needed him. Sonny’s tenacity kept him bobbing along even when life delivered a blow that could sink anyone.

Now, let’s dive into his shrewd thinking!

While wrenching away at engine parts, Sonny spotted something – a tool truck guy who was dapper, cheerful, and didn’t look worse for wear despite his age.

Sonny thinks, “I want that life!”

He went after it like a well-timed splash!

But wait, there’s more! When Sonny was selling tools, he realized how much credit card fees were cutting into his earnings.

Being the inquisitive squirrel that he was, he decided, “I could totally do that!”

He waded in and figured it out, starting a credit card processing company as a side job!

Ever wanted to chase a dream that seems just out of reach?

Sonny didn’t want to wait until he was old and gray to enjoy Florida’s sunshine. He packed up his family and zoomed over to the Sunshine State!

Once there, what did he think? I love motorcycles, particularly Harleys. “Why not sell Harleys?”

Spoiler alert: he did!

He then realized that he needed to know more people to be successful at a commissioned sales job. He needed to find an avenue for Networking like a social butterfly—or perhaps a rubber duck at a pool party.

He discovered BNI groups.

Instead of just joining one, our go-getter started five! Can you believe it?

Can you see a pattern here? Sonny sees beyond the page, discovers what is next, and makes it happen.

Now, fast-forward to today. Sonny and his lovely wife, who share a passion for motorcycles, have turned their love into a spectacular business that unites bike enthusiasts worldwide!

It wasn’t always smooth sailing, but just like a squirrel scavenging for nuts during fall, Sonny gathered ideas—some golden, some a bit nutty—but they all contribute to his success.

They blend his adventurous spirit with his wife’s creativity, their hard work, and a splash of determination, creating a recipe for success. If something doesn’t exist, Sonny detours and makes it himself!

Their latest wonder? A nonprofit that reaches out to bikers in need. How heartwarming is that?

Spending time with this incredible individual on a recent trip was like riding a wave of inspiration!

Sonny opened his home to us, took a day off work, and whisked us away on an exhilarating tour of his vibrant world.

So, here’s a big shout-out from me, Bob the Rubber Duck.

The Antlers Restaurant – Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan
As we travelled from Ontario back to our home base of Winnipeg, we decided to cross over to the US at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

We were feeling hungry, so we asked around town for suggested local places to grab a bite. Several locals said, “You have to go to The Antlers.”

As a rubber duck with a penchant for adventure, I waddled on over.

I can assure you that dining there is quite the experience, bursting with history, character, and, of course, delicious food.

Let me take you back to the beginning.

This legendary establishment has quite a storied past, starting off as the Bucket of Blood Saloon during the Prohibition era. Imagine an ice cream parlour making a hefty profit of $900 while only selling a couple of cones in the month. It did not take long before the government caught wind of it. Miraculously, it emerged as a lemonade stand! Talk about a twist in history!

The Antlers has had six families involved throughout its over four generations of heritage. It was exciting to learn about the infamous Kinneys, two Detroit cops, who bartered their way into creating an impressive collection of taxidermy that adorns the walls and ceilings. The Szabo family now carries on this tradition. They ensure that The Antlers remains a family-owned landmark.

Today, Northern Michigan folks gather at The Antlers. They share stories, play some cards and lift their glasses to the stories of the past.

Now let’s talk about the ambiance!
Walking into The Antlers is like stepping into a rustic cabin filled with over 200 taxidermy specimens.

The impressive collection showcases the passion and dedication that went into the hunt for these eclectic animals.

Each mount tells a unique story and adds to the charm of the place. In fact, it’s like an adventure waiting to unfold.
It was a little scary at times with polar bears and lions looking down on us from the rafters. However, then I saw a friendly swan…he wouldn’t eat me right!?!

And if you’re into ghost stories, The Antlers even had its moment in the spotlight on A&E’s Biography channel when they explored its haunted legends. Just imagine the excitement of dining among tales of the past!

Now, let’s get to the main event, the food!

I had the pleasure of sampling their fish and chips, as well as the classic hamburger and fries. The fish and chips were delightfully crispy and golden brown, served with a side of tangy tartar sauce. Each bite was a delightful crunch that echoed the thrill of a good hunt! The freshness of the fish, paired with perfectly seasoned fries, made for a meal that was simply outstanding.

The hamburger and fries, on the other hand, were a hearty and satisfying option. Juicy and flavorful, it was cooked to perfection and served on a fluffy bun. The fries were crisp and seasoned just right, giving that nostalgic comfort that everyone loves. You really can sense the “Up North” tradition in each mouthful: rustic, homey, and made with passion.

So, if you’re in the area and craving a meal filled with heart, character, and a dash of history, don’t miss your chance to visit The Antlers Restaurant. Black Bear Casino and Resort – Carlton, Minnesota

As we waddled our way North on the return from sunny Florida, we found ourselves in an unexpected snow globe of blizzard conditions. Road advisories were in effect while crossing through Minnesota.

Lucky for us, our path glided near Carlton. During our search for a cozy resting spot, we stumbled upon the delightful Black Bear Casino Resort.

What a vibrant gem nestled in a charming little town?

We made a quick call, and like magic, they rolled out the welcome mat for us. They invited us in from the swirling storm. As we bobbed along the driveway, the towering 12-story hotel loomed majestically ahead. It was ready to embrace our flurry of adventures.

Beyond the comfy accommodations, Black Bear Casino boasts around 2000 video slot machines. With four dining experiences ranging from casual café bites to elegant fine dining. Additionally, it has an event center for performances and even a lovely golf course complete with a driving range!

Now that’s a lot of fun packed into one place!

Our room was nothing short of a cloud-like haven, offering us a panoramic view of the winter wonderland outside. From the safety of our lair, I watched as the snow danced and swirled around in a flurry of white. And let me tell you about the bed—oh, it is like being gently cradled by fluffy marshmallows! A perfect perch for a thrilling double night while we hunkered down against the storm.

Black Bear Casino is proudly owned and operated by the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. It’s just a couple of hours from Minneapolis, making it a fantastic getaway for city folks. It’s an excellent spot to unwind, catch a concert, or play a round of golf when the sun is shining.

Sure, there wasn’t a concert during our stay, but the roster of artists they’ve hosted is impressive! ZZ Top, Trace Adkins, the Beach Boys, and Clint Black have all rocked the stage here.

While the golf course might have been closed for the season, avid snowmobile enthusiasts can zip along the nearby trails. These trails make the most of winter’s gifts.

The gaming area was bright, lively, and oh-so-tempting! My humans spent quite a bit of time giving those machines a whirl.

There were highs and lows, of course, with some wins and a few losses. Ultimately, they left with a bit less cash than when they arrived.

All in all, the food was delicious, the rooms were spick and span, and the gaming provided endless entertainment.

After a necessary supply run at a nearby Walmart, we were all set to continue our journey. This preparation came just as the storm rolled on.

So, if you’re in the mood for an adventure, trust me—make The Black Bear Casino your place!

What a splendid stop for a rubber duck like me, headed to Winnipeg during a winter storm!
