50000 Silver Dollar – Haugan, Montana

Quacking my way across the highways of adventure, I couldn’t contain my excitement when we rolled up to the 50,000 Silver Dollar Bar in Haugan, Montana!

Nestled just off Interstate 90, this vibrant oasis practically screamed “Road Trip!” to my rubber duck soul!

My humans were probably feeling the drag of the long trek from Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Burnaby, BC, so this stop was a perfect splash of fun.

The 50,000 Silver Dollar Bar is not just any stop; it’s a family-owned gem that has been charming travellers since 1952.

Thanks to the adventurous Gerry and Marie Lincoln, who started a fascinating tradition of collecting silver dollars.

Now, we’re looking at four generations of coin collecting goodness! Talk about dedication!

Legend has it that the bar originally got its name when locals, who were paid in silver dollars, began leaving their coins embedded in the bar as a fun way to contribute to the place.

The name changed as they reached milestones, starting at 2,000 and evolving all the way to the mighty 50,000!

When I floated in, the count was an incredible 87,214!

I can’t wait to see it hit 99,999;imagine the celebratory splash party!

The moment I waddled into the bar, I was captivated.

The walls are a dazzling display of coin holders stacked from floor to ceiling.

It’s like being in Scrooge McDuck’s treasure vault!

And each shiny coin has a story behind it; they’re all donated by visitors, with their names on display.

How cool is that?

These walls are updated annually every February, showcasing all the shiny tokens added over the year. If only they could talk, I bet they’d have some wild tales to tell!

But that’s not all, this stop has you covered for everything!

The 50,000 Silver Dollar Bar boasts the largest gift shop in Montana, making it the perfect spot to find quirky souvenirs.

Plus, there are tasty restaurants to recharge my humans, a small casino for those feeling lucky, and an Inn a stone’s throw away for tired travellers.

It’s a treasure trove of fun!

Imagine over 5,000 square feet filled with goodies for every age!

From local crafts to worldly finds, there’s something for everyone, all at reasonable prices.

My humans were in hog heaven exploring the aisles, and they left with treasures that will always remind them of our epic road trip!

Bob, here to share the tale of my recent stopover at the delightful Best Western Motel in Sidney, Montana.

And let me tell you, this place was an absolute splash-tastic delight from the very first moment to the last!

As a well-travelled duck who knows the importance of a cozy nest away from home, I was delighted.

The snug atmosphere enveloped me like a warm feather blanket.

First off, the staff! Wow, what a welcoming bunch.

From the moment I waddled through the doors, their friendly smiles and helpful attitudes made me feel right at home.

Those warm encounters can really brighten any journey, whether you’re a human or a rubber duck!

They were eager to help with everything from check-in to tips on local attractions, making my stay feel extra special.

Now, let’s dive into my room, a palatial paradise for a duck like me!

The spacious accommodations gave me ample room to paddle around.

The beds invited me to take a luxurious float atop the pillows.

Every inch of the space was spotless. Consequently, it radiated a cozy atmosphere perfect for unwinding after a day of quacking adventures around town.

And oh, the aquatic delights! The pool and hot tub area was nothing short of a duck’s dream.

The water shimmered like a sunlit pond, inviting me for a swim.

I bobbed happily in the pool, enjoying the crystal-clear surroundings.

When it was time to relax, the hot tub felt like a bubbling cauldron of bliss.

After a night of blissful rest, my humans and I ventured down to the complimentary breakfast. It was a feast fit for a king!

The spread was an absolute cornucopia of deliciousness.

I waddled excitedly past eight hot meal choices, dreamy Best Western waffles, fresh fruit, yogurt, fluffy eggs, and more.

My human declared that the biscuits and gravy were a must-try.
I left the breakfast table feeling like royalty with a full belly and a heart of contentment.

Stoney The Bull – Greenbough, Montana

Bob here to tell you about an interesting sight at Clearwater Junction in Montana, the incredible Stoney the Bull!

Now, I might be small and floaty, but that gigantic statue of Stoney is anything but!

He’s this unforgettable giant that truly embodies the charm and character of Montana. He stands proudly over Stoney’s Kwik Stop, where all the action happens.

This pitstop has been bustling since the late 1960s, assisting travellers as they stop by to refuel and grab a bite.

Stoney’s Kwik Stop has everything you need, from 24-hour gas service to a convenience store packed with snacks and goodies.

I mean, who wouldn’t want to indulge in some soft serve ice cream or fresh sandwiches after a long drive?

And let’s not forget the cozy bar and lounge, where folks can unwind, share stories, and enjoy the friendly local hospitality. There’s even a casino on-site for those feeling lucky!

Of course, it’s Stoney the Bull that first caught my attention.

Added to the site back in the early 1970s, he’s more than just a quirky roadside attraction, he’s a beloved symbol of the local community.

At 20 by 12 feet, he’s hard to miss, and I’m sure he’s brought a smile to many faces.

Now, Stoney’s had his ups and downs, just like any legend. I heard he had to undergo some repair work back in 1998 – over 200 bullet holes patched, a stolen tail replaced, and a shiny new paint job for good measure.

Then in 2021, he had another makeover. He got a horn reattached, 32 new bullet holes patched, and repairs to his tail and a few more. He also received yet another fresh coat of paint.

I’m thrilled to see people snapping photos with him; he’s like a big, friendly beacon along Montana Highway 200 and 83!

You can tell his owners really care about him. I just know he’ll continue to stand guard for years to come.

Best Western Plus – Liberty Lake, Washington

During a recent adventure from Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Burnaby, BC, my humans decided to stop over at the Best Western Hotel in Liberty Lake, Washington. Let me tell you, as BOB, your well-travelled rubber duck, this turned out to be one quack-tastic choice!

From the moment we entered the lobby, we could feel the welcoming atmosphere. In fact, the friendly staff greeted us with smiles that could brighten even the cloudiest of days! Their warm and welcoming attitudes are exactly what every traveller needs. Whether you’re human or, in my case, a charming rubber duck, it makes a difference. They assured us we had everything we needed and told us the happy hour would start in a couple of hours.

The room at the Best Western Hotel was not just spacious and clean, but also incredibly comfortable. It was so inviting that I almost felt like nestling down for the night early.

But the cherry on top of our stay was the legendary happy hour hosted by none other than the enthusiastic Nick! By day, he’s a mechanic. However, by evening, he transforms into the life of the party at the hotel. With delicious beverages flowing and a taco bar that would make anyone’s mouth water, my humans and I felt like we were at a five-star fiesta!

Nick had a talent for bringing people together. As we enjoyed our tacos, stories flowed like a river of laughter.

We met a travelling couple and their little duckling, who were visiting family before a major surgery, what bravery! There was also a fellow motorcycle enthusiast sharing tales of the open road. Yet another couple were there to pick up a new car; they had once babysat Evil Knievel’s son! Can you believe it? Each person has a story. When you take the time to engage, it adds colour to your experience.

After a delightful evening, we followed Nick’s recommendation and headed to a charming, locally owned restaurant. Filled with camaraderie and culinary delights, we returned to our cozy nest at the Best Western Hotel. The comfortable room and quiet surroundings ensured a restful night’s sleep, leaving us rejuvenated for the next day’s adventures.

The next morning, we woke up refreshed from the delightful complimentary breakfast and set off for Burnaby with smiles on our faces and fond memories in our hearts.

As fate would have it, my travel pals and I stopped for gas in a town called Rugby, North Dakota—little did we know we were paddling into the heart of adventure!

Did you know that Rugby is the proud owner of the title’ Geographic Center of North America’? It’s not just a fancy label; it’s a testament to the unique charm of this town. Established in 1886, Rugby was named after its English counterpart, Rugby in Warwickshire, with the hope of attracting English settlers.

First on the must-see list is the striking 21-foot pyramid-shaped monument that marks this proud claim of being center stage on the map. It’s not just a tall tale, folks; it’s a photo op just begging for a quacking rubber duck like me to pose beside it!

And if you’re into dazzling sights, be sure to visit the Northern Lights Tower, a breathtaking tribute to the mesmerizing Aurora Borealis. Oh, how I’d love to dance beneath those lights!

And let’s not forget the history buffs; the Prairie Village Museum is a real treasure trove, showcasing some of Pierce County’s oldest historical buildings and artifacts. Trust me, exploring these relics is as fun as a rubber ducky party!

As I waddled my way from Port Charlotte, Florida, to Cobden, Ontario, I had the thrilling experience of floating through the vibrant state of North Carolina! Now, you might not expect a rubber duck like me to love road trips, but let me tell you, I’m all about those new adventures! One of my favourite stops is always the welcome centers—a perfect place to stretch my little wings, refresh, and soak up all the local insights for future quests. The joy of discovering these local insights is truly unparalleled!

On this particular journey, we stopped at the I-95 South North Carolina Welcome Center, just a skip away from Rowland, and boy, am I glad we did! This spot is open 24/7 for vending and restrooms, which is ideal for a travel-loving duck like me. But here’s the real gem: during the day, the center is staffed by some fantastic folks who genuinely know their stuff.

When we arrived, three extraordinary ladies were there ready to share their knowledge. They listened to our travel story and then went above and beyond to guide us to North Carolina’s hidden treasures—what a quacking good time! They filled our travel basket with recommendations so fantastic that I could hardly contain my excitement.

First up, the magnificent Biltmore Estate in Asheville—can you imagine all those gardens and the grand mansion? I can’t wait to waddle through such a timeless landmark! And then there’s the Whirligig Park and Museum in Wilson, where colourful sculptures will surely call my name to explore!

Oh, and let’s not forget the Yadkin Valley in Mount Airy! My human is bubbling with excitement to visit the local vineyards and relive some Mayberry moments!

How about Aunt Ruby’s Peanuts in Enfield? I’m eager to learn the history behind this iconic agribusiness while snacking on some yummy peanuts!

And let’s be real—the North Carolina Motorcycle Map has me ready to hitch a ride on Goldie! Just think of all those excellent trails I could splash across!

While we didn’t have the luxury to explore North Carolina this time fully, we’re already planning our return trip to visit all these fabulous spots and soak up more of what they suggested. The anticipation is palpable, and we can’t wait to be back!

Before I knew it, we were back on the road, ready for new adventures! The friendly customer representatives sent us off with a wave and a few helpful tips for our journey. Honestly, you couldn’t ask for a better experience.

Whistles and cheerful honking of horns greeted me in the lobby!

It was a celebration fit for a Corvette superstar.

A lucky new owner was picking up their sparkling blue ride right in the museum, not at the factory across the street.

What a grand entrance!

Everyone gathered around, clapping and cheering as the thrilled owner cruised off in their shiny pride and joy.

Once I float into the main halls of the museum, my rubbery eyes widen with joy.

Corvettes galore glimmer like jewels from every decade!

Car enthusiasts buzz around like bees in a flower patch, and their excitement is utterly contagious!

The museum takes visitors on a thrilling ride through Corvette history.

Showcasing incredible design prototypes all the way to legendary models.

And boy, did I find a couple of faves that made my feathers ruffle joyfully!

Let’s dive right into the star of my show: the infamous ‘Ugly Duckling’ Corvette (officially known as the Corvette XP819 from 1964).

Talk about a unique design!

This beauty didn’t make it to the production line. Perhaps its tail was too long or its nose too pointy!

The ‘Ugly Duckling’ is a proud symbol of the Corvette’s history of daring to be different!

This quirky gem influenced the striking 1968 Corvette. If you squint just right, you might see some family resemblance between us: both champions of individuality!

Then there is the show-stopper: a bright red 1961 Corvette from country superstar Brad Paisley’s collection!

Impeccably restored, it showcases the rich history and iconic design of the Corvette!

The chrome accents shine under the lights and the interior – simply stunning with luxurious leather seats.

Brad loves that car so much that even his tour bus is painted to match!

Through interactive exhibits that brought Corvette history to life, I discovered the rich racing legacy and groundbreaking innovations behind the Corvette.

Did you know Corvettes are affectionately dubbed America’s sports car?

After spending time at the Corvette Museum, I have to agree!

And let’s not forget about the gift shop, what a treasure trove!

After looking high and low for rubber duckies without any luck, I snagged a Matchbox Corvette to cuddle in my wings!

Today was a special day. I took a giant leap into the bustling wonderland of Buc-ee’s!

Rumour has it that some Buc-ee’s locations boast upwards of 100 gas pumps.

Let me tell you, they weren’t kidding! The line of pumps stretched as far as my little duck eyes could see.

However, refuelling isn’t the only reason to stop at this rest area. Instead, buckle up for an adventure!

As soon as I waddled through the entrance, I was welcomed into a vibrant world filled with exciting colours, delightful scents, and friendly smiles.

The sheer vastness of Buc-ee’s felt like stepping into an amusement park designed for roadtrippers! It was a feast for the senses. I was ready to dive right in!

Everywhere I looked, there were quirky, fun merchandise displays.

The selection, from T-shirts to mugs, was as dazzling as a sunny afternoon on the pond.

I was delighted to find a selection of Buc-ee Ducks, which made me feel right at home.

Of course, if you prefer the furry little beaver pals, those are also available.

The variety of snacks and merchandise at Buc-ee’s is truly a sight to behold.

It’s like stepping into a treasure trove of delicious treats and unique souvenirs, each one more tempting than the last.

Now, let’s dive into the most delectable part – snacks! I’ve never seen such a cornucopia of tasty treats in one place.

From freshly made fudge to a drool-worthy selection of beef jerky, there was something for everyone.

And the signature Buc-ee’s Beaver Nuggets – sweet, crunchy puffs like tiny clouds of joy!

As a duck who values cleanliness, I was thrilled to discover that the restrooms at Buc-ee’s were pristine!

Spotlessly clean and playfully decorated with beaver-themed decor, they were a cut above the rest.

Even my furry friends have designated facilities complete with an exercise run for them to stretch their legs.

If you pull in on a motorcycle, an ice-cold beer will greet you at check-in!

Hank will pull his Harley out and even act as a local tour guide around Mound City if he has time.

There is no end to the riding stories that Hank has to share.

I can’t forget to give a special shout-out to Hank and Mary’s dedication to veterans.

Hank is a disabled American veteran who swells with pride for the United States and his contributions to freedom. They go above and beyond to honour others who have served our country.

From special discounts to walls adorned with memorabilia celebrating their service, they have a heart for veterans.

Best Western Ashland – Ashland, Wisconsin

As we embarked on our journey from Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Ottawa, Ontario, we made a splash with a delightful stop in Ashland, Wisconsin. Being a seasoned traveller, I was excited for our planned stay at the Ashland Best Western, a favourite among my humans.

At first, we paddled past the hotel a couple of times. It wasn’t until I quacked a little louder that they realized the Southern mansion-style building was indeed our destination. Talk about a quacking good surprise!

It felt more like we were checking into a charming museum than a motel. The era-specific furnishings and nostalgic photos transported us back in time, sparking stories of days gone by.

But don’t let the historical charm fool you – the room was equipped with all the modern comforts my humans love at Best Western. After a day of road travel, it was just what we needed for a peaceful night’s sleep.

While my humans took a stroll, I floated alongside them, discovering a magical back porch overlooking Chequamegon Bay, right off Lake Superior. What a stunning view! With the shimmering waters in the background, I couldn’t help but quack in approval—it was the perfect photo op!

Come morning, we were treated to a hearty, complimentary country-style breakfast. I watched as my humans dug into delicious pancakes and scrambled eggs, wishing I could join in. Sadly, our time in Ashland flew by, and soon we were back on the road, leaving behind the charm of the hotel and the beauty of the bay.

But fear not! We plan to return in the summer. I can’t wait to make more waves at this unique Best Western. Until next time, Ashland! You can bet I’ll be quacking about our adventure for a long time to come!

Blue Springs Cafe – Highland, Illinois

Hey there, fellow flavour fans! It’s me, Bob, your favourite rubber ducky, paddling into your hearts with a tale from one of the coziest nooks in Highland, Illinois—Blue Springs Cafe! If you’re on the hunt for a dining experience that wraps you in warmth and joy, you’ve just flapped your wings into the right spot. This charming eatery serves up not only scrumptious meals but also a heaping side of heartwarming hospitality!

As soon as I quacked through the door of Blue Springs Cafe, it felt like slipping into a fluffy towel after an invigorating swim—pure bliss! The staff welcomed me like a long-lost pal, and I knew right away that this wasn’t just dinner; it was going to be a celebration of family, friends, and good food. They serve meals family-style, which means there’s plenty of deliciousness to share, just like a big, happy duck family!

Now, let’s dive into the culinary delights! Oh, where to begin? We chose the fried cod, pan-fried walleye, and the chicken fried steak—each dish was a masterpiece! The fish was crispy on the outside and delightfully flaky inside, while the chicken fried steak was dripping with luscious white gravy that could make even a grumpy duck like me crack a smile. Now, that’s saying something!

And hold onto your feathers, because the side dishes were an endless parade of yum! We had coleslaw, house-pickled beets, real mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, fluffy biscuits, and sweet apple butter. The variety was enough to make my little rubber heart dance! My human adored the beets—sweet, earthy, and downright delightful. It was as if the kitchen had conjured up a special dish just for us!

But, oh dear, let’s not forget about the stars of the show: the mile-high pies! Seriously, these towering treats are taller than me! The meringue was like a fluffy cloud that you could lose yourself in. Even after devouring so much delectable food, we couldn’t resist boxing up a lemon meringue pie for later. My human has a sweet tooth for cherry pie, so she snagged a slice for our road trip ahead. Whether you fancy classic fruit pies or creamy delights that stand tall, these beauties are reason enough to veer off the interstate and indulge!
