Bob here to take you on an adventure through the delightful Parksville Community Park on Vancouver Island!

I recently floated my way over to this enchanting spot, and I couldn’t wait to share my colourful experience with you!

Nestled by the sparkling Salish Sea, this park is a crown jewel of Parksville. In fact, it is a little slice of paradise just waiting to be explored.

As I waddled along the beautiful shoreline, I watched humans skipping stones across the water. Laughter rang through the air as they created delightful splashes. Oh, how I wished I could join in on the fun, but I was content just bobbing along!

My morning began with a warm cup of coffee, well, not for me, but for my human friends, at one of the cozy sitting areas. The park is dotted with benches that offer a perfect view of the breathtaking landscapes. In addition, while sipping their brew, my companions and I took a moment to soak in the beauty around us.

What’s even more impressive is the rich history of this place.

Established in 1963, the park has a charming backstory. It includes a humble beginning thanks to the efforts of the women from the Parksville Women’s Institute.

Their determination transformed this beautiful waterfront area into the recreational haven it is today. Just beyond the playground, you can almost feel the echoes of history mingling with the breezy air.

As I bounced along the paths, I marvelled at how this park isn’t just a haven for relaxation but also a hub of community spirit.

Although the park was serene during my visit, it is not always the case.

Throughout the year, it hosts festivals and events that bring residents and visitors together, filling the air with excitement.

A massive shoutout to everyone who frequents the park – the cleanliness is amazing! I guess everyone assures they feed the uniquely painted garbage receptacles….GREAT WORK!

Whether you’re in the mood for a peaceful day by the water, some fun stone-skipping, or want to people-watch while soaking in the natural beauty, Parksville Community Park is the place to be!

Doc Holliday’s Roadhouse – Williston, North Dakota
Buckle up for a wild ride through my latest adventure at Doc Holliday’s Roadhouse in the heart of Williston, North Dakota!

As Bob the Rubber Duck, I may not fit the mold of your ordinary diner. However, trust me, this place is downright splash-tastic!

I’m cruising down 2nd Avenue, and my little rubbery heart is racing with excitement. Then, lo and behold, I spot what looks like a stampede of wild buffalo charging through town!

But as I rolled closer, I realized these were no ordinary buffalo; they were life-sized metal sculptures, glistening in the sun.

The scene felt like a page from the Wild West, complete with cowboys, Indians, and even a stagecoach!

My humans couldn’t resist pulling into the parking lot to investigate the magic behind this quirky display.

This amazing display comes from the owner of Doc Holliday’s Roadhouse. Since it was just opening up, we ventured in to check it out!

Stepping into Doc Holliday’s, I was immediately immersed in a vibrant pool of Western-Mexican charm. It was spiked with a passion for motorcycles and sprinkled with vintage signage as well.

The decor was a unique blend that piqued my curiosity and set the stage for a memorable dining experience.

The walls proudly display over 1,000 cowboy boots, each with a story to tell. Hand-painted cow skulls and license plates from all over the U.S.A. add to the charm.
We were fortunate to meet one of the restaurant’s founders, Marcus Jundt, a true dynamo!

His eyes sparkled as he shared the stories behind each quirky adornment. Furthermore, his passion for unique items that spark joy for everyone who walks through those doors was truly inspiring.

With a track record of successful dining ventures, you can bet he knows how to whip up a good time!

Now, let’s get to the mouthwatering main attraction, the FOOD! Oh, my ducky goodness!

The menu reads like a treasure map filled with culinary delights.

The steaks? Legendary! Cooked to perfection and seasoned just right, I could almost taste the cowboy campfire flavour wafting through the air.

And the burgers? Each is a juicy masterpiece that takes the classic to a new level.

Whether you’re a meat lover, a veggie fanatic, or somewhere in between, something scrumptious awaits you!
And let’s not forget the cocktails!

The mixologists here are true artists, crafting concoctions that would excite even the most jaded palate. They are the perfect accompaniment to the hearty meals. Moreover, just thinking about them has me bobbing in delight!

Still have room left for dessert? How’s about a cowboy-sized ice cream sundae that could make any rubber duck swoon!

With about ten scoops of creamy goodness, it’s a dream come true. Unfortunately, my humans weren’t ready to indulge on our visit, so I had to drool vicariously through the happy diners around us.

50000 Silver Dollar – Haugan, Montana

Quacking my way across the highways of adventure, I couldn’t contain my excitement when we rolled up to the 50,000 Silver Dollar Bar in Haugan, Montana!

Nestled just off Interstate 90, this vibrant oasis practically screamed “Road Trip!” to my rubber duck soul!

My humans were probably feeling the drag of the long trek from Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Burnaby, BC, so this stop was a perfect splash of fun.

The 50,000 Silver Dollar Bar is not just any stop; it’s a family-owned gem that has been charming travellers since 1952.

Thanks to the adventurous Gerry and Marie Lincoln, who started a fascinating tradition of collecting silver dollars.

Now, we’re looking at four generations of coin collecting goodness! Talk about dedication!

Legend has it that the bar originally got its name when locals, who were paid in silver dollars, began leaving their coins embedded in the bar as a fun way to contribute to the place.

The name changed as they reached milestones, starting at 2,000 and evolving all the way to the mighty 50,000!

When I floated in, the count was an incredible 87,214!

I can’t wait to see it hit 99,999;imagine the celebratory splash party!

The moment I waddled into the bar, I was captivated.

The walls are a dazzling display of coin holders stacked from floor to ceiling.

It’s like being in Scrooge McDuck’s treasure vault!

And each shiny coin has a story behind it; they’re all donated by visitors, with their names on display.

How cool is that?

These walls are updated annually every February, showcasing all the shiny tokens added over the year. If only they could talk, I bet they’d have some wild tales to tell!

But that’s not all, this stop has you covered for everything!

The 50,000 Silver Dollar Bar boasts the largest gift shop in Montana, making it the perfect spot to find quirky souvenirs.

Plus, there are tasty restaurants to recharge my humans, a small casino for those feeling lucky, and an Inn a stone’s throw away for tired travellers.

It’s a treasure trove of fun!

Imagine over 5,000 square feet filled with goodies for every age!

From local crafts to worldly finds, there’s something for everyone, all at reasonable prices.

My humans were in hog heaven exploring the aisles, and they left with treasures that will always remind them of our epic road trip!

And let me take a moment to quack about the staff!

They were not just friendly, but they made us feel like we were part of their story.

Their eagerness to share their experiences and listen to ours turned a simple stop into a memorable encounter.

Best Western Motel – Sidney, Montana
Bob, here to share the tale of my recent stopover at the delightful Best Western Motel in Sidney, Montana.

And let me tell you, this place was an absolute splash-tastic delight from the very first moment to the last!

As a well-travelled duck who knows the importance of a cozy nest away from home, I was delighted.

The snug atmosphere enveloped me like a warm feather blanket.

First off, the staff! Wow, what a welcoming bunch.

From the moment I waddled through the doors, their friendly smiles and helpful attitudes made me feel right at home.

Those warm encounters can really brighten any journey, whether you’re a human or a rubber duck!

They were eager to help with everything from check-in to tips on local attractions, making my stay feel extra special.

Now, let’s dive into my room, a palatial paradise for a duck like me!

The spacious accommodations gave me ample room to paddle around.

The beds invited me to take a luxurious float atop the pillows.

Every inch of the space was spotless. Consequently, it radiated a cozy atmosphere perfect for unwinding after a day of quacking adventures around town.

And oh, the aquatic delights! The pool and hot tub area was nothing short of a duck’s dream.

The water shimmered like a sunlit pond, inviting me for a swim.

I bobbed happily in the pool, enjoying the crystal-clear surroundings.

When it was time to relax, the hot tub felt like a bubbling cauldron of bliss.

After a night of blissful rest, my humans and I ventured down to the complimentary breakfast. It was a feast fit for a king!

The spread was an absolute cornucopia of deliciousness.

I waddled excitedly past eight hot meal choices, dreamy Best Western waffles, fresh fruit, yogurt, fluffy eggs, and more.

My human declared that the biscuits and gravy were a must-try.
I left the breakfast table feeling like royalty with a full belly and a heart of contentment.

The Best Western Hotel in Sidney is a perfect retreat for travelers. It offers comfort, cleanliness, endless aquatic fun, and unparalleled friendly service.

Stoney The Bull – Greenbough, Montana

Bob here to tell you about an interesting sight at Clearwater Junction in Montana, the incredible Stoney the Bull!

Now, I might be small and floaty, but that gigantic statue of Stoney is anything but!

He’s this unforgettable giant that truly embodies the charm and character of Montana. He stands proudly over Stoney’s Kwik Stop, where all the action happens.

This pitstop has been bustling since the late 1960s, assisting travellers as they stop by to refuel and grab a bite.

Stoney’s Kwik Stop has everything you need, from 24-hour gas service to a convenience store packed with snacks and goodies.

I mean, who wouldn’t want to indulge in some soft serve ice cream or fresh sandwiches after a long drive?

And let’s not forget the cozy bar and lounge, where folks can unwind, share stories, and enjoy the friendly local hospitality. There’s even a casino on-site for those feeling lucky!

Of course, it’s Stoney the Bull that first caught my attention.

Added to the site back in the early 1970s, he’s more than just a quirky roadside attraction, he’s a beloved symbol of the local community.

At 20 by 12 feet, he’s hard to miss, and I’m sure he’s brought a smile to many faces.

Now, Stoney’s had his ups and downs, just like any legend. I heard he had to undergo some repair work back in 1998 – over 200 bullet holes patched, a stolen tail replaced, and a shiny new paint job for good measure.

Then in 2021, he had another makeover. He got a horn reattached, 32 new bullet holes patched, and repairs to his tail and a few more. He also received yet another fresh coat of paint.

I’m thrilled to see people snapping photos with him; he’s like a big, friendly beacon along Montana Highway 200 and 83!

You can tell his owners really care about him. I just know he’ll continue to stand guard for years to come.

Whether you’re embarking on an epic road trip or simply passing through, don’t miss the chance to swing by Clearwater Junction and meet my friend Stoney the Bull and his little green buddy.

Best Western Plus – Liberty Lake, Washington

During a recent adventure from Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Burnaby, BC, my humans decided to stop over at the Best Western Hotel in Liberty Lake, Washington. Let me tell you, as BOB, your well-travelled rubber duck, this turned out to be one quack-tastic choice!

From the moment we entered the lobby, we could feel the welcoming atmosphere. In fact, the friendly staff greeted us with smiles that could brighten even the cloudiest of days! Their warm and welcoming attitudes are exactly what every traveller needs. Whether you’re human or, in my case, a charming rubber duck, it makes a difference. They assured us we had everything we needed and told us the happy hour would start in a couple of hours.

The room at the Best Western Hotel was not just spacious and clean, but also incredibly comfortable. It was so inviting that I almost felt like nestling down for the night early.

But the cherry on top of our stay was the legendary happy hour hosted by none other than the enthusiastic Nick! By day, he’s a mechanic. However, by evening, he transforms into the life of the party at the hotel. With delicious beverages flowing and a taco bar that would make anyone’s mouth water, my humans and I felt like we were at a five-star fiesta!

Nick had a talent for bringing people together. As we enjoyed our tacos, stories flowed like a river of laughter.

We met a travelling couple and their little duckling, who were visiting family before a major surgery, what bravery! There was also a fellow motorcycle enthusiast sharing tales of the open road. Yet another couple were there to pick up a new car; they had once babysat Evil Knievel’s son! Can you believe it? Each person has a story. When you take the time to engage, it adds colour to your experience.

After a delightful evening, we followed Nick’s recommendation and headed to a charming, locally owned restaurant. Filled with camaraderie and culinary delights, we returned to our cozy nest at the Best Western Hotel. The comfortable room and quiet surroundings ensured a restful night’s sleep, leaving us rejuvenated for the next day’s adventures.

The next morning, we woke up refreshed from the delightful complimentary breakfast and set off for Burnaby with smiles on our faces and fond memories in our hearts.

Center of North America – Rugby, North Dakota

Bob here to flap my flippers about a hidden gem I found during a recent journey from Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Vancouver, BC, through the Northern United States.

My humans and I stopped for gas in a town called Rugby, North Dakota!

Did you know that Rugby is the proud owner of the title’ Geographic Center of North America’?

Established in 1886, Rugby was named after its English counterpart, Rugby in Warwickshire, with the hope of attracting English settlers.

First on the must-see list is the striking 21-foot pyramid-shaped monument that marks Rugby’s proud claim of being center stage on the map.

It’s not just a tall tale, folks; it’s a photo op just begging for a quacking rubber duck like me to pose beside it!

And if you’re into dazzling sights, be sure to visit the Northern Lights Tower.

A breathtaking tribute to the mesmerizing Aurora Borealis.

And let’s talk about one of my all-time favourite perks: free, fresh Florida orange and grapefruit juice.

After a long drive, you’re sipping on this zesty nectar, feeling the sunshine dance on your taste buds.

It’s like liquid sunshine in a cup!

Plus, you can munch on some tasty snacks while soaking in the vibrant, welcoming environment.

Who could resist that?

The Florida Welcome Center is not just spotless, it’s a shining example of cleanliness.

The restrooms sparkle brighter than my rubbery exterior, and the whole area feels like a warm embrace.

National Corvette Museum – Bowling Green, Kentucky

Bob here, reporting from my egg-citing adventure at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky!

I couldn’t resist paddling over to dive into the dazzling world of America’s favourite sports car!

Whistles and cheerful honking of horns greeted me in the lobby!

It was a celebration fit for a Corvette superstar.

A lucky new owner was picking up their sparkling blue ride right in the museum, not at the factory across the street.

What a grand entrance!

Everyone gathered around, clapping and cheering as the thrilled owner cruised off in their shiny pride and joy.

Once I float into the main halls of the museum, my rubbery eyes widen with joy.

Corvettes galore glimmer like jewels from every decade!

Car enthusiasts buzz around like bees in a flower patch, and their excitement is utterly contagious!

The museum takes visitors on a thrilling ride through Corvette history.

Showcasing incredible design prototypes all the way to legendary models.

And boy, did I find a couple of faves that made my feathers ruffle joyfully!

Let’s dive right into the star of my show: the infamous ‘Ugly Duckling’ Corvette (officially known as the Corvette XP819 from 1964).

Talk about a unique design!

This beauty didn’t make it to the production line. Perhaps its tail was too long or its nose too pointy!

The ‘Ugly Duckling’ is a proud symbol of the Corvette’s history of daring to be different!

This quirky gem influenced the striking 1968 Corvette. If you squint just right, you might see some family resemblance between us: both champions of individuality!

Then there is the show-stopper: a bright red 1961 Corvette from country superstar Brad Paisley’s collection!

Impeccably restored, it showcases the rich history and iconic design of the Corvette!

The chrome accents shine under the lights and the interior – simply stunning with luxurious leather seats.

Brad loves that car so much that even his tour bus is painted to match!

Through interactive exhibits that brought Corvette history to life, I discovered the rich racing legacy and groundbreaking innovations behind the Corvette.

Did you know Corvettes are affectionately dubbed America’s sports car?

After spending time at the Corvette Museum, I have to agree!

And let’s not forget about the gift shop, what a treasure trove!

After looking high and low for rubber duckies without any luck, I snagged a Matchbox Corvette to cuddle in my wings!

The perfect souvenir to remember my quack-tastic time!

Buc-ee’s – Kentucky

Today was a special day. I took a giant leap into the bustling wonderland of Buc-ee’s!

Rumour has it that some Buc-ee’s locations boast upwards of 100 gas pumps.

Let me tell you, they weren’t kidding! The line of pumps stretched as far as my little duck eyes could see.

However, refuelling isn’t the only reason to stop at this rest area. Instead, buckle up for an adventure!

As soon as I waddled through the entrance, I was welcomed into a vibrant world filled with exciting colours, delightful scents, and friendly smiles.

The sheer vastness of Buc-ee’s felt like stepping into an amusement park designed for roadtrippers! It was a feast for the senses. I was ready to dive right in!

Everywhere I looked, there were quirky, fun merchandise displays.

The selection, from T-shirts to mugs, was as dazzling as a sunny afternoon on the pond.

I was delighted to find a selection of Buc-ee Ducks, which made me feel right at home.

Of course, if you prefer the furry little beaver pals, those are also available.

The variety of snacks and merchandise at Buc-ee’s is truly a sight to behold.

It’s like stepping into a treasure trove of delicious treats and unique souvenirs, each one more tempting than the last.

Now, let’s dive into the most delectable part – snacks! I’ve never seen such a cornucopia of tasty treats in one place.

From freshly made fudge to a drool-worthy selection of beef jerky, there was something for everyone.

And the signature Buc-ee’s Beaver Nuggets – sweet, crunchy puffs like tiny clouds of joy!

As a duck who values cleanliness, I was thrilled to discover that the restrooms at Buc-ee’s were pristine!

Spotlessly clean and playfully decorated with beaver-themed decor, they were a cut above the rest.

Even my furry friends have designated facilities complete with an exercise run for them to stretch their legs.

How considerate!

The staff was another highlight of my visit – friendly, welcoming, and enthusiastic.

They seemed just as excited to share their recommendations as I was to explore.

Their warm smiles and helpful advice made me feel truly welcomed.

This place transcends the usual pit stop; it’s a destination in its own right!

With its unique charm, mouthwatering snacks, and lively atmosphere, Buc-ee’s has undoubtedly secured a spot on my travel itinerary.

Audrey’s Motel – Mound City, Missouri

Bob here, soaking up the charm at Audrey’s Motel in Missouri, and let me tell you, it was quite the experience!

The delightful duo of Hank and Mary own and operate Audrey’s Motel.

Their passion for hospitality shines through every nook and cranny of this cozy establishment.

They put their heart and soul into creating a welcoming atmosphere for all guests.

As a rubber duck who knows a thing or two about comfort, I can appreciate that!

Now, let’s talk about the cleanliness of the lobby and the rooms. I must say, I was highly impressed!

They prioritize cleanliness here, which makes for a comfortable and pleasant stay, whether you’re a human or a rubber duck.

I felt right at home as I floated around the bathroom sink.

Speaking of pleasant experiences, the owners’ friendliness is truly unmatched.

Hank and Mary greet guests with smiles and warmth, instantly making you feel like part of the family.

They have so many life experiences to share. The time just slips away amidst the laughter and camaraderie.

Their genuine kindness extends to everyone; however, there is a special place in Hank’s heart for bikers and veterans!

One of the standout features of Audrey’s Motel is the unique room dedicated to John Deere tractors!

The decor in that room is truly something to quack about. From Deere-themed artwork to bedspread patterns that would make any farmer proud, it’s a perfect homage to the beloved green machines. If you’re a fan of tractors – or want to experience something truly unique – this room is a must-visit!

Hank is a life-time biker and Harley enthusiast. So, as you can imagine, riders are a welcome addition to Audrey’s Hotel.

If you pull in on a motorcycle, an ice-cold beer will greet you at check-in!

Hank will pull his Harley out and even act as a local tour guide around Mound City if he has time.

There is no end to the riding stories that Hank has to share.

I can’t forget to give a special shout-out to Hank and Mary’s dedication to veterans.

Hank is a disabled American veteran who swells with pride for the United States and his contributions to freedom. They go above and beyond to honour others who have served our country.

From special discounts to walls adorned with memorabilia celebrating their service, they have a heart for veterans.

As a rubber duck who loves freedom, I truly admire the commitment to giving back to those who protect it.

Audrey’s Motel is a gem in Missouri that I highly recommend to anyone. Choose it if you are looking for immaculate rooms, rider support, respect for veterans or owners on site to share their many passions.

Best Western Ashland – Ashland, Wisconsin

As we embarked on our journey from Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Ottawa, Ontario, we made a splash with a delightful stop in Ashland, Wisconsin. Being a seasoned traveller, I was excited for our planned stay at the Ashland Best Western, a favourite among my humans.

At first, we paddled past the hotel a couple of times. It wasn’t until I quacked a little louder that they realized the Southern mansion-style building was indeed our destination. Talk about a quacking good surprise!

It felt more like we were checking into a charming museum than a motel. The era-specific furnishings and nostalgic photos transported us back in time, sparking stories of days gone by.

But don’t let the historical charm fool you – the room was equipped with all the modern comforts my humans love at Best Western. After a day of road travel, it was just what we needed for a peaceful night’s sleep.

While my humans took a stroll, I floated alongside them, discovering a magical back porch overlooking Chequamegon Bay, right off Lake Superior. What a stunning view! With the shimmering waters in the background, I couldn’t help but quack in approval—it was the perfect photo op!

Come morning, we were treated to a hearty, complimentary country-style breakfast. I watched as my humans dug into delicious pancakes and scrambled eggs, wishing I could join in. Sadly, our time in Ashland flew by, and soon we were back on the road, leaving behind the charm of the hotel and the beauty of the bay.

But fear not! We plan to return in the summer. I can’t wait to make more waves at this unique Best Western. Until next time, Ashland! You can bet I’ll be quacking about our adventure for a long time to come!
