    Motorcycle Awareness Ride 2026 – Winnipeg, Manitoba

    Spring has sprung in Winnipeg, Manitoba!

    The trees are all of a sudden in full bloom, the grass is green, the streets are cleaned up, and the buzz of motorcycles is in the air!

    As everything comes to life and everyone comes out of hibernation, humans are hopping back on their bikes.

    As the wind ruffles their hair, everyone needs a vital reminder that motorcycles are now part of the traffic, as well!

    We may be smaller than those roaring cars and hefty trucks, but we deserve a little love on the roads just as much!

    Every year, as biking season kicks off, the city puts on its best face!

    You’ll find all these catchy billboards popping up everywhere, on buses, buildings, you name it, blaring the message that bikes are back in action!

    But let’s face it, that’s just not enough.

    Just as humans need to brush up on navigating snow-covered roads, they also need a little refresher on coexisting with their two-wheeled friends come spring.

    The 2026 Motorcycle Awareness Ride, organized by the Winnipeg Motorcycle Riders Group, kicked off with an exhilarating spirit!

    But you know what?

    We gathered at the stadium parking lot on what turned out to be a chilly, wet day.

    Cold drizzle couldn’t dampen our excitement!

    Dedicated riders showed up, ready to shine the spotlight back on motorcycles for all of Winnipeg to see.

    The atmosphere near the Forks was electric as we prepared for our grand ride toward the Headingly Sports Shop.

    I felt the camaraderie in the air and the buzz of shared enthusiasm, even as raindrops tapped on our helmets.

    Reaching the Headingly Sports Shop was the cherry on top of a wonderfully adventurous day!

    Everyone devoured hot dogs, explored the latest bikes and accessories, and caught up about their off-season upgrades.

    Generous sponsors supported a raffle with proceeds going to the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter!

    I proudly perched on the unique bar fridge that included my name!

    What a beauty!

    Everyone gathered in excited anticipation as the tickets were drawn and the winners announced!

    A hearty congrats to Gail for her multiple wins!

    All in all, it was another successful kickoff to the motorcycle season, brimming with laughter, community spirit, and a shared love for riding.

    Huge thanks to Grace and the Winnipeg Motorcycle Riders Group for making this annual event so memorable!

    Here’s to many more adventures on the open road, where every ride brings a splash of joy!

    Viking Trail – Newfoundland

    Part One – In and Around St Anthony

    Bob here, ready to splash you into an exciting tale shared by our friend Francis from Nova Scotia!

    Francis is our week 24 winner of the Get Your BOB on Contest!

    His BOBortunity takes us on a journey along the legendary Viking Trail in Newfoundland.

    According to Francis, the Viking Trail is a must-do expedition that blends rich history, breathtaking views, and an extra splash of excitement.

    His story is so impressive, I broke it down into five parts!

    Francis suggests taking at least 4 to 5 days to soak up the vibrant local culture and all the adventures that await.

    Getting there is a bit of a trek, but trust me, the journey is absolutely worth every wave!

    Start by getting to the easternmost mainland in Nova Scotia…

    Then catch a ferry from North Sydney, Nova Scotia, to Port aux Basques, Newfoundland…

    Ride all the way to the most north-eastern tip of Newfoundland…

    And you have arrived at the starting point of this incredible ride!

    His story starts from the top of the trail:  St. Anthony!

    Nestled at the tip of the Great Northern Peninsula, St. Anthony is a little treasure where history, culture, and jaw-dropping scenery collide!

    As you float into this charming town, you will be instantly enchanted by its rugged shorelines and the warm, friendly vibe!

    St. Anthony isn’t just steeped in Viking heritage; it’s also became the home of the legendary Dr. Wilfred Grenfell.

    Sir Grenfell is a medical missionary who brought modern healthcare to this chilly region back in the 1890s.

    His incredible legacy is celebrated at the Grenfell Historic Properties, where you can immerse yourself in touching stories of compassion and care.

    And don’t forget to check out the Grenfell House Museum nearby, it’s a must-visit that’s full of heart!

    Now, let’s talk about June, the month when this place absolutely sparkles!

    Icebergs elegantly drift down the coast from Greenland.

    Majestic whales make their grand entrance from July to August.

    If you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of both icebergs and whales on the same outing!

    St. Anthony hosts a delightful iceberg festival in early June, packed with music, stories, and even a polar bear dive.

    Now that’s something I’d love to attend!

    After a day of fun and exploration, you can unwind in St. Anthony’s cozy atmosphere, where about 2,500 friendly locals make you feel right at home.

    Francis gives a big thumbs up to the Grenfell Heritage Inn & Suite, where the ocean views are simply perfect.

    Don’t miss the nearby Fishing Point with its scenic trails and stunning iceberg vistas.

    And for a truly unforgettable experience, consider spending the night at the Quirpon Lighthouse Inn.

    Just imagine the magnificent panoramic views from a historic lighthouse, sounds like pure magic!

    Once you’ve recharged those batteries, it’s time to flap your way to the next stop: L’Anse aux Meadows!

    As you drive to L’Anse aux Meadows, prepare for a jaw-dropping journey!

    The road hugs the stunning coastline, winding through charming fishing villages, with each turn revealing breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean.

    If Lady Luck is on your side, you might even spot more icebergs floating by!

    L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that echoes with the adventures of fearless Viking seafarers!

    This charming village is where Norse explorers, led by the daring Leif Erikson, made their presence known over a millennium ago!

    Believe it or not, they set foot here 500 years before Columbus even thought about sailing the ocean blue!

    Parks Canada has done an incredible job reconstructing the Viking village.

    It offers curious travellers like us a glimpse into the lives of those brave Norse adventurers.

    And just 2 kilometres away, you’ll find The Norstead Viking Village, alive with costumed interpreters eager to share their captivating Viking tales.

    As you stroll through reconstructed sod huts, you can almost hear the echoes of their grand discoveries mingling with those dazzling coastal views!

    Let’s not forget about the impressive archaeology!

    The remains of Viking houses and artifacts uncovered by the brave explorer Helge Ingstad and his wife bring history to life right before your eyes!

    At Norstead you can even step into the shoes of a Viking merchant in a bustling trade port, complete with a full-scale replica Viking ship!

    It’s the perfect way to become part of this living history book!

    Just a 90 delightful minute ride from St. Anthony, and you will find yourself at Port au Choix.

    Part Two – Welcome to Port au Choix

    With 6,000 years of vibrant history, it’s where Indigenous and European cultures whirl together.

    Be prepared to soak up some of the most jaw-dropping ocean views you can imagine!

    Nestled along Newfoundland’s Northern Peninsula, this scenic fishing village is like a postcard come to life.

    Now, the real royalty along this shore? Crab and lobster reign supreme!

    Picture heaps of lobster pots stacked high, fishing boats bustling in and out of the harbour, and the mouthwatering aroma of fresh seafood wafting through the salty air.

    The first stop? The Parks Canada Port au Choix National Historic Site!

    It’s like hopping into a time machine where ancient stories come to life.

    There’s so much to discover about the Maritime Archaic, Dorset, Groswater, and Beothuk cultures. I mean, who wouldn’t want to try waddling like a prehistoric hunter?

    Francis got quite the kick out of that!

    Wandering this stunning corner of the Great Northern Peninsula, you’ll uncover the deep connections the Maritime Archaic had with these lands long before Europeans arrived.

    From seals to fish, they thrived on the sea’s bounty, hunting for food, making clothes, and building shelters!

    The coastal scenery is as fascinating as the history itself, filled with limestone barrens and hidden bays.

    You can even visit ancient burial sites and see original artifacts!

    Next on the adventure, Francis heads to the French Rooms Cultural Centre.

    Dressed in period costumes, the guides share stories of life for French fishermen.

    At Old Port au Choix, you can check out a reconstructed French Bread Oven and a Chaloupe (that’s a fancy name for a fishing boat!).

    Visitors can sit in the Chaloupe and snap a cute pic!

    Plus, if you’re around when the Bread Oven fires up, oh boy, you get to sample fresh bread topped with local jam!

    Ready to stretch your little rubber ducky legs?

    Hit the trails!

    The Coastal Trail is a breezy 1-kilometre jaunt that hugs the coast, with stunning views just begging for a selfie.

    It’s often filled with the sights of whales and quaint fishing boats bobbing along the waves.

    Then there’s the Dorset Trail, a longer adventure at 3 kilometres one way.

    With limestone barrens and the panoramic views from Crow Head, keep your eyes peeled for caribou!

    You never know who you might spot!

    And let’s not forget the spectacular Point Riche Trail, also 3 kilometres.

    This trail leads to the gorgeous octagonal Point Riche Lighthouse, built in 1892.

    Standing tall along the rugged coast, it offers amazing views of the Gulf of St. Lawrence and, of course, more whales spouting in the distance!

    And then there are the caribou herds!

    Francis keeps his distance but says every time he visits the lighthouse, he spots a small herd of caribou, which are majestic to watch as they graze on the offerings of the land.

    After all that exploring, Francis usually spends the night at the Sea Echo Motel.

    He enjoys a to-die-for homemade chowder and a dinner called Maritime Archaic Platter with all the great fruits of the ocean! 

    Then he waddles off to his cozy cabin and falls asleep in the comfy bed, dreaming of what lies ahead!

    Continuing down the Viking Trail, Bobber Francis arrives at his next overnight stay in Rocky Harbour, Newfoundland!

    Part Three – Rocky Harbour, the Gateway to Gros Morne

    Rocky Harbour, perched right at the entrance of Gros Morne National Park, is welcoming with its stunning scenery and vibrant local culture.

    With a tight-knit community of about 1,000 friendly locals, this little town wraps you in an atmosphere that feels just like a warm hug!

    Francis likes to explore Rocky Harbour, nestled between Salmon Point and Lobster Cove Head, and is captivated by the breathtaking beauty of Bonne Bay.

    Set against rolling hills that seemed to whisper tales of adventure.

    As he drifts along the rugged coastline, the first thing that catches Francis’s eye is the charming fishing boats bobbing gently in the water.

    Every sight and sound in and around Gros Morne National Park is a feast for the senses!

    He can’t get enough of the postcard-perfect views of the rugged landscape.

    Speaking of postcard moments, he recommends checking out the Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse.

    This historic beacon has been guiding mariners into Rocky Harbour and the entrance to Bonne Bay since 1897!

    Even though it’s now automated, the light keeper’s house serves as a park interpretive exhibit.

    It is filled with treasures that tell the stories of those who have lived along this coastline and harvested its bounties for over 4,000 years.

    Francis says you will be thrilled to see original artifacts, historical documents, and photographs donated by locals that brought the history to life!

    But his adventure doesn’t end there! He always likes spending a couple of hours at the incredible Gros Morne Wildlife Museum.

    Wandering through the exhibits, Francis feels as if he has stepped into the Newfoundland wilderness.

    With over 100 full-size replicas of local animals, the museum transforms the indoors into a wild adventure.

    The sights, sounds, and even the scents of the forest surrounded him, creating a deeper connection with the wildlife and history that helped shape this vibrant town.

    After all that exploring, he is ready to satisfy his appetite.

    Francis can never resist trying a local favourite, the Lobster Roll, bursting with fresh lobster and heavenly seasoning on a perfectly grilled roll. Quack-tastic!

    As day turns to night, Francis settles into his room at the Ocean View Hotel, lulled to sleep by the soothing sounds of the ocean waves.

    After a well-deserved rest, he’ll be ready to glide through the shimmering waters of Deer Lake, heading to our next exciting stopover on The Viking Trail at Corner Brook.

    Francis’ next stop as he rides The Viking Trail: Corner Brook.

    Part Four– Charming city of Corner Brook

    Nestled by the stunning Bay of Islands, this charming city is a delightful hub brimming with nature, culture, and the friendliest folks you’ll ever meet!

    As you bob along the scenic Humber River, you’re greeted by the lush green hills that hug the city. 

    Corner Brook is aptly named for its stunning corner of the world, surrounded by remarkable landscapes and breathtaking views.

    The city boasts a rich history rooted in the lumber and paper industries, which is evident in its blend of historic charm and modern vibrancy.

    Oh, and let’s talk about Captain Cook!

    Now, there’s a fascinating fellow!  His adventures across the South Pacific are a captivating chapter of British colonial history.

    He honed his surveying skills right there in the nearby Bay of Islands!

    One of Francis’ favourite spots is Marble Mountain!

    Just a short hop from downtown, it’s a glorious playground for all seasons.

    In the warmer months, you can float lazily around while the brave adventurers hike the trails.

    In wintertime, it transforms into a snowy wonderland where everyone skis and snowboards down the slopes.

    Imagine zip-lining through the treetops!  What a quack-tastic ride that would be!

    As you make your way through the streets, the local art scene is sure to catch your eye.

    Corner Brook is home to vibrant murals and galleries showcasing the work of talented local artists.

    And since he is always interested in anything with an engine, Francis highly recommends you stop in at the Railway Museum!

    You will get your fill of railway history, memorabilia and vintage trains.

    The Newfie Bullet!

    And let’s not overlook the gorgeous coastlines! 

    The area is sprinkled with beautiful parks, where you can float to your heart’s content while soaking in stunning views of the bay.

      And guess what?  You might even spot some magnificent whales breaking the surface!  How exciting is that?

    After a day full of adventures, Francis usually settles in at one of Corner Brook’s cozy spots and indulges in some local cuisine. 

    Newfoundland Comfort Food is one of his favourite spots where he savours a homemade burger and fries. 

    He says he’s treated like family there, and the portions are like a family barbecue!

    It’s the perfect way to fuel up before heading to the Glynmill Inn for a good night’s rest.

    The next morning he will be off to Port-au-Basques for one more night before catching the ferry home.

    Francis’ final leg of his journey is to the ferry at Port aux Basques!

    Part Five– Port aux Basques!

    Let’s dive into the charming tale of this coastal gem, just before he boards the ferry back to Nova Scotia.

    What a grand finale for Bobber Francis and his Viking Trail journey! 

    Port aux Basques is steeped in history, with its roots dating back to the 16th century, when Basque whalers first discovered this lovely harbor.

    These waters were blessed with fish!

    French fishermen made it their home after the 1713 Treaty of Utrecht granted them fishing rights along the French Shore.

    The area became a vital transportation hub when the Newfoundland Railway arrived in 1897.

    By 1945, Port aux Basques finally became a town.

    Unfortunately, the town has experienced some difficulties along the way.

    They’ve proven time and again that their spirit is as unbreakable!

    From the sinking of the SS Caribou in 1942 due to a German U-boat attack claimed 137 lives.

    To the devastation brought on by Hurricane Fiona in 2022.

    Hats off to this resilient town for rising from such depths!

    There’s so much to see and do!

    First up, hop onto the Grand Bay West Beach Trailway for some coastal hiking.

    Francis says the views are incredible!

    The historic Cape Ray Lighthouse is a must-visit.

    Complete with museum displays and panoramic coastal views that’ll have you quacking with joy!

    Don’t forget Scott’s Cove Park and the Harbour Boardwalk!

    You can stroll along the waterfront, watch humans fishing, and indulge in some local fare.

    For a taste of the town’s past, the Port Aux Basques Railway Heritage Centre is a treasure trove of railroad stories!

    And birdwatchers will adore the Wetlands Trail, where nature abounds, and feathered friends can be spotted.

    After a day of exploration, you’ll want a cozy place to rest.  St Christopher’s Hotel is where Francis hangs his helmet for the night.

    Comfortable beds and a friendly atmosphere- what more could you want?

    Oh yeah, stunning ocean views and a couple of minutes’ walk to Scotts Cove Park!

    Francis typically grabs a bite at The Captain’s Room right in the hotel, where they serve up delicious seafood chowder that’ll warm your heart (and a duck’s soul). 

    And then he spends the evening enjoying the local entertainment and merriment in Scotts Cove Park.

    Port aux Basques is the perfect ending to an epic BOBortunity down the Viking Trail!

    As Francis prepares to hop onto the ferry and say goodbye to this incredible place, he does so with fond memories and a belly full of local chow.

    You have certainly left a spot in our memory along with a plan to visit when our travels take us to Eastern Canada.

    Bob here, paddling along to share my latest splash-tastic discovery: the charming town of Fredericksburg, Texas!

    Big thanks to Amy from Texas for bringing this delightful destination to our attention as her entry in the Get Your BOB On Contest, claiming the prize as our week 23 winner!

    Now, Fredericksburg may not be Amy’s hometown, but it sure holds a special place in her heart.

    Founded back in 1846, this delightful town is awash with German heritage.

    The German culture permeates every nook and cranny.

    Bratwurst, schnitzel, and stunning architecture makes you feel like you’ve been magically transported to Europe without leaving Texas!

    The heartbeat of Fredericksburg is undoubtedly its vibrant Main Street.

    Picture a delightful stretch packed with unique shops and cozy boutiques, all devoid of franchises or chains in the National Historic District?!

    Explore handcrafted treasures, bask in the sweet scents wafting from bakeries, and, of course, sip on exquisite wines from the surrounding Hill Country vineyards.

    I mean, who could resist that?

    One of Amy’s favourite spots for a sip is Safari Winery.

    This place has family roots dating back to the mid-1800s, and they bring in fantastic wines from around the globe.

    But wait, there’s more!

    In a fun twist, they’ve recently added a kangaroo exhibit.

    Let your server know you want to see these hopping cuties, and prepare for a delightful show as they play and rest.

    What a surprising treat!

    Of course, you can’t help but think of food when you are sharing a glass of great wine.

    Amy’s top spot is Friedhelm’s Bavarian Inn, where you can get your fill of schnitzel and spaetzle or, of course, genuine Texas fare.

    On occasion, Amy books one of the themed rooms at the Inn when she and her husband go on a weekend retreat.

    What a romantic time they must have had, checking out the various themes and relaxing in the jacuzzi tub.

    Other times, when they go with a group, they choose vacation rentals.

    One in particular she raves about is the Austin Street Retreat.  For over 100 years, this retreat was a family dwelling, and the barn even served as a jailhouse for a while. 

    It’s transformed over the years into a luxurious rental that effortlessly blends history with modern comforts.

    Each suite is a cozy little nook wrapped in nostalgia, connected by enchanting courtyards that whisper tales of yesteryears!

    Fredericksburg is snuggled right in the heart of the breathtaking Texas Hill Country.

    Whether you’re hiking up scenic trails or enjoying a casual stroll through picturesque parks, there’s nature magic just waiting for you to soak it all in.

    Cultural fans will find plenty to love, too!

    From art galleries featuring local artists to historical sites that tell the story of this wonderful town, Fredericksburg is a treasure trove of experiences waiting to be discovered.

    Amy has shared that every visit feels like a mini-vacation wrapped in the warm embrace of friendly locals who go above and beyond to make everyone feel at home.

    Just like the sign suggests!

    Fredericksburg knows how to throw a party when Oktoberfest rolls around.

    Three days of polkas, accordions, crafts, authentic German food, and gents strutting their stuff in Lederhosen.

    Canadian Tulip Festival, Ottawa, Ontario

    Bob here, paddling my way through the stunning sights of the Canadian Tulip Festival in Ottawa, Ontario.

    This delightful celebration was brought to our attention by Kristy from Ontario.

    She shone a light on this gorgeous event in her submission that won week 22 of the Get Your Bob On Contest!

    Let me take you back in time to when this festival first blossomed. Our story begins in 1945, just after the end of World War II.

    In a remarkable gesture of gratitude for Canada’s role in the liberation of the Netherlands, Princess Juliana donated 100,000 tulip bulbs to the city of Ottawa.

    The vibrant blooms, symbols of peace and friendship, were a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful Canadian people.

    Can you imagine the colourful scenes these lovely tulips create? It is like a rainbow splashed across the landscape!

    Fast forward to today, and the Canadian Tulip Festival is now a dazzling annual celebration.

    Over a million visitors soak in the radiant beauty of about as many blooming tulips every year!

    The festival takes place in 2026 from May 8th to 18th, turning the city into a floral wonderland.

    I can only imagine the vibrant arrays of colour brightening up the parks and gardens.

    And filling the air with joy, laughter, and the sweet fragrance of spring!

    The festivities include breathtaking art installations, captivating performances and cultural displays paying homage to Canada’s diverse heritage.

    Families gather for fun activities, food stalls, and musical concerts that fill the air with a sense of community and celebration.

    Nothing quite compares to the sight of people strolling through rows of tulips, snapping pictures for their own flower-filled memories.

    And let’s not forget the stunning parades, where the tulips take center stage!

    Festival-goers explore the many colour palettes of tulips, learning about the different varieties and their meanings.

    The tulip festival celebrates flowers, nurtures connections among people, and reminds us of the beauty of friendship and understanding.

    So, whether you’re a tulip aficionado like Kristy or just someone looking to enjoy the beauty of nature, the Canadian Tulip Festival is an absolute must-visit.

    With each bloom, you’re not just witnessing a flower; you’re stepping into a story woven through time and gratitude.

    Portugal – Lisbon and Beyond

    BOB the BOBBER goes to Portugal!

    BOB, our first winner of the GET YOUR BOB ON CONTEST in December 2025, brought to our attention the Great River Road journey along the Mississippi River.

    Now he’s back as the week 21 winner with his awesome trip to Portugal!

    Imagine bobbing your way through Lisbon, the stunning capital of Portugal.

    In this city, the charming vibe is as vibrant as a sunny day on the water.

    Lisbon, home to around 100,000 friendly folks, is built on seven rolling hills.

    The views take your breath away!

    The streets are a delightful maze of winding cobblestones. Each turn reveals enchanting sights like Medieval castles peeking over the skyline.

    This city has a knack for blending the old with the new, and Bob couldn’t get enough!

    Around the historic Alfama district, the haunting sounds of fado music wrapped around him like a cozy towel fresh from the dryer.

    Bob even floated his way to Belém for the famous custard tarts, which were nothing short of magical!

    And oh, the pastry shops!

    They’re everywhere, tempting him with their sweet, sugary scents.

    He bunked in the Chiado/Baixa area, perfect for fellow adventurers embarking on their first Lisbon voyage. 

    Bob could not resist some exploration of the modern side of Lisbon – amazing!

    BOB discovered Mercado do Bolhão, a bustling market full of tasty twists on traditional Portuguese dishes.

    He says that the LX Factory is a treasure trove, full of colorful street art and trendy galleries!

    He even caught a DJ set in a quirky former brothel on Pink Street!  Talk about a wild night out for a BOBBER!

    While waddling through Lisbon, Bob learned that it’s incredibly walkable and bike-friendly.

    The cobblestone and tiled sidewalks can be quite the workout, with slopes that feel like they could send you rolling down a hill!

    But those inclines can tire out your little webbed feet!

    Comfy shoes are a must!

    Not to worry though, the iconic streetcars and motorcycle trolleys are always around to help out.

    On to the second leg of BOB’s adventure! Sintra, a splendid gem just a breezy 40-minute jaunt from Lisbon!

    Nestled in the enchanting foothills of the Sintra Mountains, this resort town has been a sanctuary for royals and dreamers alike.

    Imagine BOB bobbing along the cobblestone streets, surrounded by a kaleidoscope of pastel-colored villas and majestic palaces that seem to whisper tales of the past.

    First on his itinerary was the extraordinary Pena Palace, perched atop a mountain at a dizzying 1,500 feet above sea level.

    The journey up was an adventure in itself; navigating the winding paths and charming cobblestones took around 30 minutes, but the views were worth every bob! 

    Built in the 19th century, Pena Palace predates Bavaria’s iconic Schloss Neuschwanstein by roughly 30 years!

    Making it the first romantic palace in Europe!

    The royal marvel is distinguished by its vibrant colours and whimsical architecture!

    The park boasts the richest and most unusual collection of tree species in Europe! 

    Who knew that tree-hopping could be so exhilarating?

    Next on his adventure was the enchanting Quinta da Regaleira.

    This breathtaking estate was crafted by the imaginative Italian architect Luigi Manini for the eccentric António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro between 1904 and 1910. 

    As he waddled through this fairytale-like wonderland, Bob couldn’t help but admire the splendid Neo-Manueline architecture, each detail telling a story forged in grandeur and mystery.

    Now, let me tell you about the Initiation Wells: an eerie yet fascinating highlight!

    These 90-foot-deep inverted towers feature spiral staircases.

    The rumour is they were used for secret initiation rituals connected to Masonry and the Knights Templar.

    How thrilling! 

    The gardens surrounding the estate reveal symbolic structures, such as the Chapel and the Portal of the Guardians.

    After a day brimming with adventure and tales of yore, BOB and his companions retreated to the quaint historic center of Sintra.

    This pedestrian-friendly hub is a feast for the eyes!

    Winding streets and charming cafes, ideal for sipping exquisite Portuguese wine.

    He savoured each drop, imagining himself as part of the local history.

    A BOBBER at the heart of a romantic escapade!

    As BOB settled down to rest, he pondered the magical day he had just experienced.

    Sintra, with its palaces shrouded in mystery and gardens echoing stories of the past, truly captured his heart.

    But fear not, dear friends, for this adventure is far from over!

    For the 3rd leg of Bob’s journey, he whisks us on a colourful tour of Porto and the breathtaking Douro Wine Valley.

    First, let’s dive into the wonders of Porto!

    The iconic Dom Luís I Bridge arches gracefully over the shimmering river, while the charming Ribeira riverside district bursts with colour and life.

    Often called Portugal’s “second city,” Porto features a UNESCO-listed historic center that beckons exploration! 

    This vibrant city isn’t just known for its atmosphere; it’s the birthplace of the world-famous Port wine.

    Crafted in the nearby Douro Valley and aged in the historic cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, Port wine is enjoyed worldwide.

    Floating closer to the action, Bob couldn’t help being captivated by the stunning blue-and-white azulejos.

    Those beautiful Portuguese tiles adorn some buildings turning them into pieces of art!

    And strolling through the markets overflowing with tantalizing Portuguese treats is an absolute must do!

    From delectable produce to heavenly pastries and a seafood feast like no other, every corner promises a culinary delight!

    While exploring, make sure you savour the iconic salt cod, a true staple in these parts. 

    And you must try this quirky snack called Cod chips? 

    Imagine delightful morsels of salt-dried cod, dipped in egg and batter, then fried to golden perfection!  Yum!

    But do not leave Porto without indulging in the legendary Francesinha sandwich; the taste is absolutely irresistible!

    After indulging in all that Porto had to offer, Bob hopped aboard a bus tour that whisked him away to the enchanting Douro Wine Valley. 

    This breathtaking region consists of three unique sub-regions: Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo, and Douro Superior.

    Each boasts its own distinct climate and soil, which work together to produce those exquisite wines.

    Here’s a fun fact: there’s no irrigation allowed!

    The vineyards rely purely on natural water sources.

    If someone tries to water the vines, they’d risk losing their wine license for life!

    Bob admired the patchwork of steep hillsides.

    Vineyards are tended by hand, no machinery in sight!

    In many cases, olive trees serve as fences, creating a breathtaking landscape.

    He even enjoyed a leisurely river ride through the valley…

    …the views were simply stunning!

    And who could resist stopping at a vineyard or two!

    From small and intimate…

    …to larger commercial estates

    All made for extraordinary port wine tastings.

    Bob says that Porto and the Douro Wine Valley are bursting with charm and character.

    After basking in the sun, soaking up the sights, and indulging in some delicious vino in Porto, BOB made his way to Aveiro.

    Aveiro is a beautiful and vibrant city often dubbed the “Venice of Portugal.”

    As BOB glided along the vibrant canals, he couldn’t help but marvel at the stunning Art Nouveau architecture.

    Those Moliceiro boats!  Oh, what a magical ride!

    Floating through the water on these colourful boats, Bob felt like royalty, surrounded by breathtaking views at every turn.

    The city was alive with beauty.

    And those iconic striped houses, known as palheiros, are unforgettable.

    Those bright, cheery colours made him feel like he was cruising through a rainbow!

    The welcoming atmosphere was perfect!

    Bob felt right at home, strolling through the streets alongside the friendly locals, whether they were hopping onto a bus or ambling on foot.

    Of course he had to take one last opportunity to indulge his palate in Portugal!

    The fresh seafood?  Absolutely quack-worthy!

    But let me tell you, the real highlight for Bob in his culinary adventure at Aveiro was the ovos moles pastries.

    Sweet little morsels that practically melted in his mouth!

    One of Bob’s favourite stops was the Aveiro Museum, nestled in a former convent where Princess Joana once lived.

    Out of nowhere, you look up to see a giant axe glinting in the sunlight!

    It’s like something out of a fairy tale, but instead of a giant, it’s the World’s Largest Axe!

    The talented folks at B.I.D. Canada in Woodstock, New Brunswick, is a metal magician specializing in all sorts of needs for the forestry biz and beyond! 

    They took time out of their busy schedule to design, build and install this community landmark.

    Now, let’s talk about the buzz in Nackawic.

    According to George, this axe isn’t just a big hunk of metal; it’s a proud symbol of the community’s spirit!

    For generations, forestry has woven itself into the fabric of this town, and The Big Axe stands tall as a reminder of that rich heritage.

    This monster of steel tips the scales at a jaw-dropping 55 tons and towers at a staggering 15 meters (49 feet)!

    Yes, indeed, it’s like having a giant lumberjack keeping watch over the river!

    Built in 1991, when Nackawic earned the shiny title of the Forestry Capital of Canada, this landmark is a tribute to the hardworking folks who have shaped the region.

    Now, let’s dive into the juicy details!

    The axe head is a whopping 7 meters (23 feet)  wide!

    And that big ol’ concrete stump it’s sitting on is a massive 10 meters (33 feet) in diameter!

    In fact, that stump doubles as a stage for all sorts of community shindigs, making it a buzzing hub of fun and festivities.

    But here’s the real treasure: tucked away inside the axe head is a time capsule!

    Yep, that’s right, a little treasure chest waiting for future generations to crack it open and uncover the surprises within!

    I can only imagine the quacky tales they’ll find!

    Shaped like a space station, it houses tons of Star Trek memorabilia and souvenirs.

    I can imagine the excitement of a Trekkie walking inside!

    As you enter Vulcan, you won’t want to miss the 31-foot replica of the Starship Enterprise.

    It’s a stunning sight that everyone stops to marvel at.

    With over 2,000 feet of winding passages, I promise you’ll be hopping with excitement as you discover breathtaking underground waterfalls that dance and sparkle with every drop.

    Gregory’s first visit to Neversink Cave filled his heart with wonder as he beheld the enchanting entrance surrounded by vibrant greenery.

    But there was a flicker of yearning in his eyes. The cave’s depths felt like an elusive mystery, daring him to explore, but he lacked the skills to take the plunge.

    He stood there, gazing at the magnificent opening adorned with stalactites that hung like nature’s own sparkling chandeliers, yearning for adventure.

    With the fire of determination lighting up his spirit, Gregory decided it was time to take the plunge, not physically at first, but by gearing up for the ultimate adventure!

    He rallied some friends who shared his passion for exploration, and together, they dove headfirst into an exciting training quest!

    They honed their cave exploring skills in preparation to conquer the Neversink Cave!

    When Gregory returned to Neversink Cave two years later, his excitement bounced off the walls!

    With a heart filled with anticipation and excitement bubbling in his feathers, he made his way back to that stunning entrance.

    As he descended into the cave, he stepped into a realm that felt truly otherworldly.

    The cave walls glimmered as water cascaded down, creating a soothing symphony of sounds that made him feel like he was in nature’s very own concert!

    Gregory described his experience as a monumental transformation, a journey that unfolded not just within the cave but within himself!

    He was ecstatic to finally discover the awe-inspiring formations, the intriguing beauty surrounding him, and the exhilarating sense of victory that comes with overcoming an obstacle.

    It was a day filled with friends and laughter echoing through the caverns, a perfect adventure indeed!

    And let’s not forget about that breathtaking opening!

    Father Dobberstein, a determined German immigrant and priest, made a promise to the Virgin Mary.

    If she blessed him with recovery from a serious illness, he would construct a shrine to honour her.

    Father Dobberstein recovered!

    And in 1912, he set out on a 42-year quest to gather rocks and stones to fulfill his vow.

    The Grotto of Redemption is a sprawling complex featuring nine breathtaking grottoes. Each portrays pivotal scenes from the life of Jesus Christ.

    As the world’s largest man-made grotto, this enchanting site is often affectionately dubbed the “eighth wonder of the world.”

    But The Grotto of Redemption isn’t just about its impressive dimensions.

    Stunning mosaics made from an extraordinary collection of minerals, fossils, and gemstones bring a unique element to the construction.

    Acclaimed for a value exceeding $4.3 million, these vibrant materials tell stories of hope and faith. In addition, they create a mosaic that sparkles in the sunlight and draws in over 100,000 visitors annually.

    The story behind the Grotto is as inspiring as the intricate scenes it displays.

    Father Dobberstein began using a wealth of minerals and precious and semi-precious stones to weave an unbreakable narrative of humanity’s fall and Christ’s redemption.

    Picture a spectacular display crafted from petrified wood, malachite, agate, and a whole host of other dazzling stones perfectly placed in concrete.

    Alongside Father Dobberstein was his invaluable right-hand man, Matt Szerensce. He became his devoted collaborator in this ambitious undertaking.

    Their combined knowledge and tireless labour transformed the Grotto into an iconic masterpiece. It covers an area about the size of an entire city block.

    Bob here, ready to share my delightful adventure at the charming Magnolia Soup Company in Sturgis, South Dakota!

    We were passing through Sturgis on our way back from Arizona.

    With the infamous motorcycle rally months away, the town was blissfully quiet, making it a perfect time to explore all the hidden gems Sturgis has to offer.

    Our fabulous friend Rhonda decided to treat us to dinner, and boy, did she pick a winner!

    Now, you might think a place called Magnolia Soup Company would be about soup, but hold onto your feathers because they have a whole lot more to offer!

    The menu is bursting with delicious options, everything from hearty soups and fresh salads to tantalizing rice bowls and mouthwatering sandwiches.

    And, of course, there is a never-ending selection of daily specials on the menu. 

    Talk about a feast for the senses!

    As we settled in, I was pleasantly surprised to find a vibrant retail space in the restaurant, showcasing a variety of unique grocery items.

    There’s even a delightful selection of wines for those looking to add a little cheer to their meal.

    It felt like a one-stop shop for anyone hungry for a taste of local flavour!

    I had to admire the cozy atmosphere of the Magnolia Soup Company.

    It was so inviting that it made us feel right at home.

    With that delectable aroma wafting through the air, we knew we were in for a treat no matter what we chose from the menu.

    Rhonda opted for a hearty bowl of the day’s special soup paired with a crisp, fresh garden salad.

    One of my humans couldn’t resist a tempting meal in one of their famous bread bowls…delicious! 

    And my other human felt like trying one of their bowls on the menu, the Asian Rice Bowl.

    Brimming with fresh vegetables over a bed of perfectly executed rice with a sauce that leaves your mouth watering for more!

    Everything was not only delicious but made with love, exactly what you want after a long road trip!

    What sticks out most in my memory is the sense of community at Magnolia Soup Company.

    Our server was the friendliest lady, who used to own a local taco shop, so she certainly knew how to make us feel welcome. 

    Locals were chatting and laughing, creating a warm and welcoming vibe that made it feel like we were part of something special.

    It reminded me that food always has this magical way of bringing people together, no matter where you are.

    Do yourself a favour and swing by the Magnolia Soup Company whenever you are in Sturgis.

    Bob here with a tip for a great breakfast stop: Black Hills Bagels in Rapid City, South Dakota!

    While spending time in the Sturgis area, my humans were determined to make the drive to Black Hills Bagels.

    Who could resist a repeat visit for some of the best bagels in North America.

    As soon as we waddled through the door, the charming atmosphere wrapped around us like a cozy hug.

    The bustling staff greeted us with smiles that could light up even the gloomiest of days.

    Talk about hospitality!

    Now, let’s dive into the deliciousness!

    One of my humans opted for the Hogs and Chicks breakfast sandwich, a true gem piled high with bacon, eggs, and melted cheese. All of this was nestled inside a plump asiago bagel. Complemented by the onion and chive cream cheese, this sandwich surely hit the spot!

    The other human chose a vegetarian option, Coastal Cowboy.  What an impressive creation, featuring silky onion-and-chive cream cheese, fresh avocado, and a delightful heap of sprouts on a made-from-scratch everything bagel. She loved it!

    But the treats didn’t stop there!

    My humans couldn’t resist the “birthday cake” tea, which turned out to be a delightful Earl Grey.

    One sip, and they were hooked!

    In fact, the love for this brew was so strong that one of them snagged a bag to take home.

    Now that’s what I call a win-win!

    The staff is a huge attribute of Black Hills Bagel!

    They are like a well-oiled bagel-making machine, always there to assist with a friendly face and helpful attitude.

    They took the time to explain menu choices, helping my humans land on the perfect choices for them. 

    Even though they were quite busy with many order pickup customers and in-store patrons, they made us feel that our satisfaction was very important to them. 

    They even went the extra mile and took me on a quick tour of the kitchen!

    I got to see the entire bagel-making process, from kneading the dough to those aromatic circles of goodness baking in the oven.

    Talk about a behind-the-scenes adventure!

    The combination of scrumptious food, top-notch service, and that warm, inviting ambiance made our return visit just as memorable as the first.

    We were making our way through the expansive landscapes from the dazzling lights of Las Vegas, Nevada, to the motorcycle haven of Sturgis, South Dakota.

    Rock Springs marked the perfect spot for a rejuvenating stopover.

    Now, let me tell you a bit about this splendid establishment!

    The Outlaw Inn name pays homage to the Wild West era when Rock Springs was a gathering place for outlaws and adventurers alike.

    With Rock Springs’ rich history dating back to the late 1800s, this town has seen its fair share of travellers.

    Each visitor brings tales as vibrant as the sunsets here in Wyoming.

    The Outlaw Inn was built in the mid-60s with a Western-style flair that reflects that colourful past, welcoming weary wanderers just like me!

    Fun Fact – The Outlaw Inn was the first hotel in the area to have an indoor swimming pool.

    Upon entering The Outlaw Inn, we were warmly greeted by a very friendly staff member.

    Her smile was as bright as a sunny day, and her accommodating nature was absolutely fantastic!

    She openly shared her wealth of knowledge about the area.

    On her recommendation, we ventured to a local eatery just down the street for dinner.

    Oh boy, was that a perfect choice!

    As we settled into our room, I felt like royalty in my cozy little domain.

    The space was wonderfully quiet, allowing me to rest my little duck head after a long day of travel.

    Although we had to leave early the next morning and didn’t get to partake in the complimentary breakfast.

    I have no doubt it would’ve been a splendid way to kickstart our day.

    Despite our brief stay, I left with fond memories of the Outlaw Inn.

    Big shout-out to the front desk lady for making our stay great and for her stellar dinner recommendation!

    Bob here, with my tale for you about our stop at Marty’s in Rock Springs, Wyoming!

    After a long day on the road heading from sunny Vegas to the wilds of Sturgis, we found ourselves at the cozy Outlaw Inn.

    The front desk lady was a gem and confidently directed us to Marty’s, saying it was a local favourite.

    Her suggestion was spot on; what a find!

    As we waddled into Marty’s, I was immediately struck by the warm, welcoming vibe.

    The place was buzzing with energy.

    Seemed like the perfect spot to take a break.

    We felt like we had arrived at an all-are-welcome establishment.

    Our bubbly server greeted us with a smile that could brighten even the cloudiest day.

    You could tell she absolutely loved her job at Marty’s; her enthusiasm was contagious, and her service was second to none!

    We kicked things off with a cocktail reminiscent of a Piña Colada.

    Oh, what a delightful treat it was!

    It wrapped around my little rubber duck heart and sent it bobbing with joy.

    As for the food, it didn’t disappoint!

    My humans shared an appetizer of crispy mushrooms, which came with a creamy ranch-style dipping sauce so tasty.

    It should have come with a warning: “Addictive!”

    One human opted for the classic hamburger and onion rings. The burger looked incredibly appetizing, loaded with goodness, juicy and satisfying.

    And those rings… perfectly crisp!

    My other human decided on Bomber skins; potato skins that looked like a skyscraper of flavours loaded with cheese and bacon.

    Definitely a mountain to conquer!

    The atmosphere at Marty’s was just fantastic.

    A large family gathering had just wrapped up, and the sound of laughter and chatter filled the air.

    Soon, the locals began trickling in, ready to grab a drink and settle in to watch the hockey game of the night.

    It felt like we had stepped into a friendly neighbourhood gathering, and let me tell you, it felt just like home after a long day of driving.

    Our stop at Marty’s was the perfect end to a great day!

    Taming the hunger pangs and making us feel appreciated and welcome as visitors in the community.

    If you find yourself cruising through Rock Springs, make sure to waddle on in for a meal that’ll warm your heart and fill your belly!

    Bob here, ready to paddle through my exciting March drive along the Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway!

    Our visit caught the canyon waking up from winter.

    The landscape was a collage of lush greens, rocky outcrops, and the remnants of last season’s snow.

    Absolutely breathtaking!

    But the highlight of this trip?  Spotting a herd of mountain goats!

    There they were, perched majestically on the rocky ledges, showcasing their phenomenal climbing skills.

    These agile creatures are known for their impressive hooves that help them navigate this rugged terrain.

    With their shaggy white fur, they looked right at home among the crags and cliffs.

    Did you know mountain goats are not actually true goats?  They belong to the antelope family!

    Their thick fur keeps them warm during the chilly months, and those sharp hooves have evolved specifically for cliff-hanging antics.

    Watching them effortlessly bound across rocks was nothing short of mesmerizing!

    BUT…I learned a hard lesson!

    As harmless as these white beasts look, they are wild animals.

    Keep your distance, and do not assume they will be tame if you offer them a snack!

    As we continued our drive, we marvelled at the beauty surrounding us: towering ponderosa pines, vibrant rock formations, and waterfalls cascading down the cliffs.

    It is a perfect mix of nature’s artwork!  March may have been a bit chilly, but the sights made it all worth it.

    The Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway is truly a must-visit for anyone wanting to soak in the natural splendour of South Dakota.

    Whether you’re eyeing mountain goats or just taking in the sweeping views, this picturesque drive won’t disappoint.

    We can hardly wait to visit again during the 86th Sturgis Bike Rally in August.

    Mount Rushmore showcases the colossal faces of four iconic presidents carved straight into the mountain!

    Each one of these men embody pivotal moments in the tale of the United States.

    As we float down the river of time, let’s dive into what each presidential face represents to the United Sates.

    Washington – proud beacon of unity

    Each face has a story to tell, and you can practically feel the weight of history in the air!

    Imagine the thunderous rumble of dynamite shattering granite, clouds of dust swirling as these determined artisans meticulously carved the mountainside.

    The craftsmanship is nothing short of extraordinary!

    Those impressive faces tower about 60 feet high from chin to hairline!

    Just think, even the eyes are a whopping 11 feet wide!

    Every little detail designed to withstand the passage of time.

    It’s a testament to dreams, teamwork, and sheer willpower!

    But it’s not just the presidents that steal the show!

    The scenery surrounding Mount Rushmore is a breathtaking vista of natural beauty!

    The Black Hills are a playground of lush forests and stunning views that’ll leave you in awe.

    Whether you’re a history buff, a nature lover, or just someone keen to experience the great outdoors, Mount Rushmore is an absolute must-see!

    We were all fueled with excitement for the upcoming Sturgis Motorcycle Rally this summer, reminiscing about the electrifying atmosphere from last year!

    Upon our arrival, the ground was clear of snow, but there were also no signs of the impending bike festivities.

    It was as if we had stumbled into a tranquil bubble.

    Sturgis was quiet, with no bustling crowds or eager bikers revving their engines.

    Just a peaceful community savouring a rare moment of stillness.

    Then the weather changed.

    Snow began to dance gently from the sky, transforming the streets into a sparkling winter wonderland.

    Visibility dwindled, but still, there were no lines or roaring motorcycles to be found.

    It was a stark contrast to the frenetic energy of the bike rally: a serene day in March compared to the chaos of July!

    I couldn’t help but ponder the love-hate relationship the townsfolk must have with their seasonal rhythm.

    During the summer, Sturgis bursts to life with vibrant crowds, laughter, and the roar of motorcycle engines.

    But in this quiet time, they get to recharge and prepare for the spectacle to come, the Sturgis Bike Fest.

    It’s a beautiful dance of anticipation and rest, a season of planning nestled between bustling summers.

    So here’s to Sturgis!

    I can hardly wait to bask in the sun with my fellow bikers come summer, without a snowplow in sight.

    We were headed to Sturgis, South Dakota, after starting our day in Rock Springs, Wyoming.

    We still had about 90 minutes of windshield time, and my humans were getting hangry!

    Boy, did we find a treasure!

    As we rolled into the charming little town of Moorcroft, we stumbled upon this delightful eatery. It seemed to be calling our names: The Odds Cookhouse.

    With an impressive menu that offered everything from Cowboy potato skins to juicy ribeye steak?

    My humans started with a zesty Bloody Mary!

    Just the right amount of zing to get our taste buds dancing!

    Now, let’s dive into the main event: the meals!

    One human went for the bacon and cheese smash burger, which was cooked to perfection!

    Juicy, flavorful, and piled high with goodness, it was nothing short of extraordinary.

    But the real showstopper was what my other human ordered: the Country Fried Bacon BLT.

    Yes, you heard that right!

    Crispy bacon, breaded, deep-fried, and stacked into a mile-high sandwich!

    Talk about a calorific wonder, delicious but definitely not for the faint of heart!

    The atmosphere at The Odds Cookhouse was as charming as they come.

    Decorated in a delightful Western theme with a touch of humour that kept us smiling.

    I even spotted a friendly country cousin sneaking into a photo with a playful farm animal!

    The Odds Cookhouse is a must-visit!

    An enjoyable 1.5-hour ride from Sturgis and forty minutes from Devil’s Tower.

    It’s the perfect spot to fuel up while exploring the open road.

    What’s a trip to Las Vegas without a splash at the legendary Gold and Silver Pawn Shop, home of the hit show Pawn Stars?

    When we arrived, the shop looked pretty ordinary at first glance, but the throngs of eager visitors told a different story!

    There were folks directing traffic as if it were the hottest club in town.

    We finally snagged a parking spot and waddled inside, where the air buzzed with excitement and the shelves overflowed with treasures just waiting to be discovered!

    I pondered how this quirky little pawn shop shot to stardom, drawing in over 3,000 visitors every single day!

    It all started back in 1980 when retired Navy sailor Richard B. Harrison, affectionately known as The Old Man, packed up his family and moved from sunny San Diego to sizzling Las Vegas.

    He opened a humble coin shop, but his son, Rick, had big dreams of creating a pawn shop that would thrive amid the city’s whirlwind of activity.

    At the time, Las Vegas had a pause on issuing new pawn licenses, pending the population reaching 250,000. Most would have given up, but not Rick!

    He bided his time like a duckling waiting for the right moment to leap into the water.

    In 1988, the population finally hit that magical number, and Rick raced to City Hall, emerging with one of the first pawn licenses issued in years.

    Now, how did a humble pawn shop become a star on national television, you might wonder?

    With a treasure trove of antiques, quirky collectibles, and priceless artifacts, the shop turned into a local legend.

    Visitors could find everything from exquisite artwork to ancient weapons!

    Rick saw a golden opportunity to share their delightful stories with the world through reality TV!

    He pitched the idea to various networks, pouring his heart into showcasing their blend of history, art, and delightful negotiations.

    After several attempts, the History Channel bit! Lights, cameras, action! The shop came alive with personalities galore!

    There’s Rick, the entrepreneurial whiz, The Old Man with his sage wisdom (sadly passed away in 2018), Corey, the son with snappy one-liners, and don’t forget Chumlee, the lovable goofball whose antics kept everyone in stitches.

    Together, they turned the pawn shop into a phenomenon that drew fans from all over to witness the nexus of history and hilarity!

    During my Saturday visit, even though I spotted their mugs on t-shirts and posters, I didn’t get a chance to meet any of the stars.

    But oh, the vibes!

    This quirky establishment was pulsating with life;

    every artifact had a story to tell,

    every bit of banter was infectious,

    and it felt like stepping into a living museum

    honouring both the past and the present.

    The Gold and Silver Pawn Shop is a must for anyone visiting Las Vegas.

    Whether you’re a curious traveller wanting to catch a glimpse of a Pawn Star,

    or a collector on the hunt for that one-of-a-kind treasure,

    you’ll bob away with your heart brimming with tales and maybe even a delightful little treasure of your own!

    Nestled along the iconic Route 66, this charming little ghost town has a colourful history as vibrant as the landscapes surrounding it.

    Perfect for a quick detour on our road trip to Las Vegas from Apache Junction!

    Oatman was founded back in the early 1900s during the gold rush. In 1901, prospector George D. Wyeth found gold in the nearby hills, sparking a mining boom that drew a wave of hopeful miners and adventurers.

    The town flourished, reaching its peak around 1915 when it boasted over 3,500 residents!

    Can you imagine the hustle and bustle?

    Today, remnants of that rich history mix seamlessly with quirky shops and a lively spirit.

    As you stroll down the main street, you’ll find a treasure trove of quirky venues and shops that celebrate Oatman’s quirky character.

    The Oatman Hotel, built in 1902, is a must-see. It’s said to be haunted by the ghost of a former miner, which adds an air of intrigue!

    Plus, visitors can enjoy a cold drink on the patio while soaking in the fantastic views of the surrounding mountains. I might take a seat on the railing, after all, I’m a duck who knows how to relax!

    Don’t miss the charming shops housing unique souvenirs, artisan crafts, and local artwork.

    The Wild West feel remains alive, with locals often donning period costumes that transport you back to the town’s heyday.

    If you’re lucky, you might catch a live cowboy show or some lively music, complete with toe-tapping fiddle tunes!

    Speaking of music, be sure to check out the local saloon, where you can enjoy a taste of old-time Western hospitality along with cold refreshments.

    It’s a fantastic spot to mingle with other travellers and hear the stories of those who’ve come to this historic landmark.

    Perhaps the most delightful aspect of my visit was encountering the famous Oatman burros, yes, those adorable donkeys!

    They’re quite the celebrities here!

    Descendants of the pack animals used by gold miners, these gentle creatures roam freely through the town, adding a touch of charm and liveliness.

    Visitors love feeding them carrots and snapping plenty of photos, and who could resist?

    I mean, who wouldn’t want to take a picture with a friendly donkey?

    We actually thought we had missed them, but just as we were heading out of town, there they were, surrounding us for our apples!

    As I bob around, soaking up the atmosphere of Oatman, I can’t help but feel the sense of community and the spirit of adventure that brought people here over a century ago.

    We only had time for a quick drive through this time.

    We will return one day to fully experience the history, the burros, and the overall Americana that Oatman has to offer.

    The blazing gunfight lasted a mere 30 seconds for the victorious lawmen!

    Today the OK Corral is a lively museum where the Wild West springs to life!

    Visitors soak up the excitement through engaging exhibits and thrilling reenactments.

    From artifacts and weapons to saddles and carriages, each is a snapshot of the rugged souls who braved the untamed frontier.

    And let’s not forget the life-sized models and dioramas!

    The spirit of Tombstone pulses through every inch of the museum.

    A historic silver-mining hub that attracted a stampede of prospectors and adventurers.

    I can almost hear the jubilant shouts of miners and the clink of silver coins.

    All paint a vibrant picture of the brave souls who dared to dream of a better life.

    Over 700,000 thrill-seekers from all over the globe flock to the OK Corral Museum annually!

    Visitors are eager to step back in time to feel the boldness and bravery of the Wild West.

    After soaking up the dazzling lights and sounds of the Strip in Vegas, my humans were feeling a little peckish!

    They were on a mission to find a legendary seafood buffet they once loved, only to discover it had vanished!

    Not deterred, they turned to Google to find a seafood haven off the Strip.

    That’s how they discovered The Legends Oysters Bar and Grill, just a breezy 15-minute drive away.

    And oh boy, what a hidden gem they unearthed!

    Little did they know that Legends Oyster Bar is the creation of the incredible Chef Jack, who honed his skills at the very Seafood buffet we had been searching for!

    Chef Jack is a culinary wizard with roots in Thailand’s vibrant spices.

    He grew up delightfully amid the tantalizing aromas of his grandma’s kitchen and his mom’s bustling restaurant, sparking his lifelong love of cooking!

    Fast forward to age 11, when Chef Jack made the brave journey to the United States.

    He dove headfirst into his mom’s restaurants after school and on weekends.

    Watching the magic of cooking unfold before his eyes, he became utterly fascinated by the rhythmic chop and stir of the kitchen.

    At just 18, he took his first big plunge into the professional culinary world at the Rio Hotel and Casino.

    Can you believe he rose from Food Runner to Master Cook in only two years? What a whirlwind of talent and determination!

    As if that weren’t impressive enough, Chef Jack quickly swam upstream to become Chef Tournant, absorbing wisdom from every corner of the kitchen like a sponge.

    With every delicious dish, he dazzled the culinary scene, eventually securing promotions to Assistant Executive Chef and then to Executive Chef.

    His dishes, crafted with love and a sprinkle of flair, enticed the high rollers of Las Vegas and even Hollywood elites!

    But every hero’s journey has its challenges.

    Just as Chef Jack took the bold leap to open Legends, the pandemic hit!

    Yet, with unwavering resolve and the support of his family, he weathered the storm and emerged victorious, proving that even the toughest tides can’t sink a determined spirit!

    Walking into Legends, I was greeted by walls adorned with accolades from culinary royalty like Gordon Ramsay and Guy Fieri, talk about an impressive guestbook!

    And there he was, Chef Jack, ready to share his inspiring tale of passion and sacrifice.

    I could practically feel the energy radiating from him, a testament to the love and care that make Legends the special place it is.

    Now, let’s dive into the menu!

    One of my humans decided on the Surf and Turf Skewers to kick off his incredible feast.

    Mmm, my little duck heart was racing with excitement!

    The surf portion consisted of shrimp, lobster, peppers and onions, deliciously seasoned and cooked to perfection. 

    And the steak tips? 

    Well, let’s say my human’s mouth waters when he looks at our pictures!

    My other human had a difficult time choosing with all the great seafood options, so she got some friendly advice from the skilled team at Legends

    She went with the mouth-watering Grilled Oysters.

    She has never had grilled oysters before, but loves raw oysters, so why not?

    The blend of seasonings created an unforgettable bite, which she will surely have on a return visit.

    And then on to the main course!

    One human savoured the Legends Pan Roast, packed with crab, lobster, and shrimp, what a flavour explosion!

    The other dove into a Hot Lobster Roll overflowing with tender lobster chunks and exceptional seasonings.

    Both dishes were absolute showstoppers, showcasing the best of seafood.

    And let’s not forget the service!

    The staff at Legends treated my humans like family, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that struck the perfect balance between bustling excitement and serene charm.

    Chef Jack’s remarkable journey is a tale woven with passion, perseverance, and oodles of love.

    A reminder that the best recipes are those cooked from the heart!

    The Legends Oysters Bar and Grill isn’t just an escape from the chaotic Strip;

    It is a heartwarming story of triumph and delicious seafood that made our adventure unforgettable.
