    Fresco – Punta Gorda, Florida

It’s your favorite floaty friend, Bob, here to share my delightful experience at Fresco Bakery in Punta Gorda, Florida, where I had the pleasure of meeting up with the Badger Crew for a morning of pastries and coffee before our thrilling motorcycle ride.

Nestled in a charming corner of Punta Gorda, Fresco Bakery exudes a unique charm that is hard to resist. Its rich history, established in 2015 by the talented duo of Chef Marco and his partner, Lisa, adds to its allure. With a passion for traditional baking and a sprinkle of modern flair, they create an inviting atmosphere that makes every visit feel like a warm hug.

My biggest surprise: A wine room tucked away in the corner of the dining area! Now, I’m just a rubber duck, but I could see the glimmer in one of my human’s eyes as they browsed the selection. Maybe a little too early for bubbly for us, but an interesting find!

As I floated around the rustic yet cozy interior (yes, even rubber ducks appreciate good decor), the aroma of freshly baked goods wafted through the air, beckoning me to explore the menu. Fresco Bakery offers an impressive variety of pastries and coffee that would make any duck quack with joy!

From flaky croissants to decadent danishes, there’s something for everyone. I dove right into the buttery almond croissants—so flaky it practically melted in my little beak!

And let’s not forget about the plethora of sweet treats! The blueberry scones were bursting with juicy berries, while the lemon bars had the perfect zing that made my little rubber heart sing. For those who prefer a savory start to the day, the quiches are a must-try. Packed with fresh ingredients and baked to golden perfection, they provided just the right amount of fuel for our upcoming ride.

Of course, what’s a bakery without coffee? Fresco offers an array of artisanal brews, from rich espressos to creamy lattes. I must say, the Badger Crew raved about coffee as it warmed their souls—it was the perfect pick-me-up for a sun-drenched Florida morning. As I bobbed along on the table, I couldn’t resist the temptation to indulge in a little sip (okay, just a tiny splash) of the coffee.

Besides the delectable pastries and coffee, Fresco also offers a variety of bread, including artisanal loaves and baguettes, perfect for those looking to take a piece of the bakery home. If you’re in the mood for something sweet to take with you, their selection of cookies, like the classic chocolate chip and the oat peanut butter, is simply irresistible!

In addition to the mouthwatering menu, the warm and friendly service at Fresco Bakery made our visit even more enjoyable. Lisa, with her delightful energy and her passion for service, made us feel right at home.

So, whether you’re a local or just passing through Punta Gorda, make sure to stop by Fresco Bakery for a taste of their heavenly pastries and a cozy atmosphere that feels like home. The Badger Crew and I left feeling satisfied and ready to hit the road, but not before promising to return for more of those incredible treats!

Until next time, keep floating and keep tasting!

Hello, fellow adventurers!  Buckle up because today, I’m diving into the delightful and vibrant experience of the Columbia Restaurant, a dazzling gem nestled in the heart of Ybor City.  This isn’t just any restaurant; it’s a culinary landmark serving smiles and savoury delights since 1905!

What makes it even more remarkable is that it’s still in the loving hands of the Hernandez family—now in its fourth generation!  Picture this: a sprawling 52,000 square feet of enchanting dining space where you can cozy up with 1,700 fellow food lovers.  Break out the confetti because Columbia holds the title of Florida’s longest-standing restaurant—a true testament to dedication and community!

Walking into the Columbia is like stepping into a vibrant time machine.  The restaurant drips with culture and charm, celebrated for its stunning tile work and lively decor that whisper stories of a rich Cuban and Spanish heritage.  You can almost hear the echoes of the past as you stroll through its bustling halls!

Let’s chat about the incredible staff, especially the superstar Aaron!  His service was smooth, like a gentle stream, and his menu knowledge was impressive.  He made sure my visit was an unforgettable experience!

My journey began with a sizeable slice of Cuban bread.  Wow, was that a treat!  And then came the legendary 1905 Salad—if you think salads are boring, think again!  This salad is a legendary blend of fresh iceberg lettuce, zesty dressing, and flavorful olives, crafting a perfect harmony of taste and texture.  It has stood the test of time, remaining a beloved classic since day one!

I sipped on a Huckleberry Martini to wash down these delights—a refreshing burst of fruity goodness.  The twist of huckleberries gives this cocktail a unique flair and pairs marvellously with each dish.  Talk about a flavour adventure!

For the main event, the management team recommended the lobster cannelloni; let me tell you, it was pure magic on a plate!  These tender cannelloni were filled with succulent lobster and drizzled with a rich sauce that danced playfully on my taste buds.  Absolute bliss!

If comfort food calls your name, the Pollo Manchego is your answer.  Juicy, perfectly seasoned chicken topped with luscious melted Manchego cheese is like receiving a warm hug from the inside out—satisfying and utterly delightful.

To wrap up my fantastic meal, I was treated to a lively Flamenco show right in the heart of the restaurant.  The dancers were a whirlwind of energy and elegance, their vibrant costumes lighting up the room with every twirl and stomp.  I may have no feet to dance with as a rubber duck, but you best believe I couldn’t resist bobbing along to the infectious rhythm!
