Sturgis Motorcycle Rally 2025 –  Sturgis, South Dakota

Hey, all you adventure lovers! I’ve been paddling through some spectacular escapades! But nothing could ever hold a candle to the electrifying buzz of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally!

My human and I cruised down on our shiny ride, Goldie, all the way from Winnipeg. We were there to meet up with the inspiring Support Bikers crew for an epic experience.

Let’s rewind the clock to 1938. A local Indian motorcycle dealer named Pappy Hoel had a vision to gather riders for a festivity celebrating horsepower and camaraderie. It all kicked off with what was called the “Black Hills Classic,” featuring nine daring racers: eight on Indian bikes and one lone Harley. Can you imagine the roar of those engines and the excitement buzzing in the air?

Hundreds of thousands of participants roar into the stunning Black Hills of South Dakota every August for this spectacular event.

For ten exhilarating days, this peaceful town transforms into a roaring oasis of fun, music, and motorcycles.

The unique blend of motorcycle culture, live music, and the breathtaking Black Hills scenery. Riders from every corner of the globe come together, united by their shared love of the open road and the thrill of adventure. It’s a sight to behold!

Even though my time at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally 2025 was just a splash in the pond, I dove deep into a world bursting with unforgettable memories!

Whether you’re a seasoned rider or a curious spectator, there’s something absolutely magical. Connecting with fellow enthusiasts against the stunning backdrop of the Black Hills is a unique experience.

As I float along with my fellow rubber duck pals, I can’t help but dream of being part of the action next year!

When August 2026 rolls around, remember: right near the roaring motorcycles and thumping beats, a little yellow duck is cheering you on from the sidelines, yep, it’s me, Bob!

  • Quick Stop at Deadwood – Deadwood, South Dakota

Quick Stop at Deadwood – Deadwood, South Dakota

It all started back in the thrilling year of 1874! Picture this: a band of eager miners struck gold in the southern Black Hills,

and suddenly, a quiet little gulch filled with dead trees transformed into a bustling epicentre of adventure.

Gold fever spread like ripples in a pond, attracting all sorts of colourful characters just itching to make their mark!

Among the most legendary was “Wild Bill” Hickok, a real folk hero of the American Old West! This gunslinger was a multi-talented dynamo: soldier, scout, lawman, and even a showman!

He rode into Deadwood seeking fortune and fame, but his story ended in tragedy when he was gunned down by the infamous Jack McCall, also known as “Broken Nose Jack”.

The legend says Wild Bill was holding a poker hand of aces and eights, forever doomed to the title of the Dead Man’s Hand! Oh, the drama!

Broken Nose made infamy himself by taking this fatal shot at Wild Bill and while he sealed his fate with a trip to the gallows, his name lives on!

Let’s not forget Calamity Jane! What a gal! She was an adventurous, sharpshooter, storyteller, and friend of Wild Bill.

Then there’s Potato Creek Johnny, the lucky guy who discovered a colossal gold nugget in 1929! The high-fives he must have given himself!

Even a noteworthy Canadian-American made my list – Seth Bullock. Seth wore many hats: business owner, sheriff, and even U.S. Marshal! Talk about a multitasker!

And, of course, we have the notorious Ellis Alfred Swearengen, who ran the Gem Theatre, a not-so-ordinary brothel. For 22 years, this place was the talk of the town!

History has a way of adding twists and turns, and poor Deadwood faced fires and economic troubles that threatened to turn it into a ghost town!

But wait, just when it seemed the story was over, a spark ignited in 1989 when limited-wage gambling was legalized!

While the Sturgis Rally brings loads of fun, sometimes, you just want to chase away the crowds. I enjoyed the peaceful stroll through those historic streets of Deadwood, feeling the echoes of the legends that once roamed there, and catching a theatrical reenactment.

  • Saloon 10 – Deadwood, South Dakota

Saloon 10 – Deadwood, South Dakota

Now, let’s splash around in the juicy backstory! Saloon No. 10 was born in the roaring 1930s. Its creation was thanks to a fellow named Stu Donavitz, who knew how to play the speakeasy game like a pro.

But what really makes this saloon sparkle is the teamwork between Stu and a creative cartoonist from Chicago, Elmer Kellogg. Inspired by the legendary Wild Bill, these two crafted a unique slice of the past. They included handcrafted doors and cozy barstools!

Zoom forward to December 1963, when the Keehn family took over this historical joint. Without needing a time machine, it’s clear that the Keehn family has been pouring their heart and soul into Saloon No. 10. For four generations, family members hustle every day to keep the good vibes flowing, and I couldn’t be more grateful for their dedication.

Live music fills the air with fantastic tunes, courtesy of local legends like Vern Sympsy. I even caught an impromptu jam with Good Ol’ Keehn Dad on the “gut bucket.”

Plus, there are unforgettable grill sessions by the fireplace, where friends and strangers bond over sizzling steaks. Nothing like that camaraderie to make a rubber duck feel right at home!

When the fabulous 1980s rolled in, the Keehn family had an epiphany: why not add food to the fun? Enter Aunt Sally’s Fried Chicken! They whipped up a drool-worthy menu that hooked patrons faster than I can do a backstroke!

This culinary adventure led to the birth of the Deadwood Social Club in 1995. They broadened their tasty horizons while keeping that iconic Saloon No. 10 spirit alive.

And there’s more! The Keehn family is all about community. They’ve turned fundraising into a lively tradition, mixing a little quirky fun with heartfelt purpose, like their weekly Sexy Bingo, where every cent goes toward fighting cancer!

Their guiding mantras, such as “Keep the faith” and “Life is short,” float through the saloon. They remind everyone that laughter is the best medicine!

So, if you find yourself anywhere near Deadwood, make the hasty float over to experience Saloon No. 10. It’s a place that embodies the vibrant history of the Wild West while serving up heartfelt hospitality.

With a family that keeps the spirit of togetherness alive, it’s where legends come to life. Memories are made one clink of the glass at a time!

Let’s dive into the delightful wonders of Falls Park in Sioux Falls, South Dakota! Oh, what a fabulous place it is, a real gem tucked away right in the heart of the city. With vibrant colours and natural beauty, this park is a playground for both nature lovers and rubber ducks alike!

As I floated along the Big Sioux River, my eyes sparkled with excitement at the magnificent sight of the waterfalls cascading down the rocks. The sound of water crashing and bubbling is like music to my little duck ears; it’s a symphony of nature that beckons everyone to come and explore! The falls are truly the centrepiece of the park, and I imagined myself swooshing down the sprays like a true adventurer.

Strolling through the well-kept paths, I couldn’t help but admire the surroundings and the obvious care that the community puts into keeping this park inviting and pristine.

The tranquility of the park, like a scene from a postcard, envelops you in a sense of calm and peace.

For my human companions, the park offers several well-maintained picnic areas, each with its unique charm and a perfect spot for a cozy lunch. I kept an eye out for crumbs, hoping someone might drop a snack!

Families gather to laugh and play, all while the sun shines down and the fresh air fills their lungs. It’s a lively atmosphere that fills my little duck heart with joy!

An added element to the park is the iconic Queen Bee Mill, a historic grain mill that adds a sprinkle of history to the scenic landscape. As I bobbed by, I couldn’t help but wonder about the stories those old stones might tell. The joy of discovery, combined with the natural beauty and rich history, makes Falls Park an enchanting place for everyone.

And let’s not forget about my favourite spot: the observation tower! I floated upward for a better view, and wow! From there, I could see the dazzling waterfalls, vibrant foliage, and the colourful tapestry of the park that wraps around the river.

The view from the observation tower is truly breathtaking, offering a panoramic view of the entire park. It’s a sight that truly takes your breath away: perfect for a little rubber duck with a penchant for adventure!

Talking about taking your breath away, all of a sudden, the serenity of the park was interrupted by fighter jets overhead that came from the local air base.

It was amazing to see these impressive pieces of equipment in action so close.

Sculpture Walk – Sioux Falls, South Dakota

When I think of Sioux Falls in South Dakota, my little duck heart quacks with joy at the thought of their importance in farming and agriculture. But guess what?

This vibrant city also boasts a treasure trove of artistic acumen, and the community knows how to celebrate its cultural diversity!

One of the highlights of my recent adventure was the amazing Sculpture Walk downtown. A fabulous free outdoor art gallery beckoning you to explore every nook and cranny of the area.

    Ingenious, right?

    But wait, there’s more!

On their website, you can grab a handy map that guides you to even more sculptures scattered throughout the city.

    How cool is that?

This year, there are 80 stunning sculptures, all on loan from artists hailing from 19 U.S. states and one Canadian province.

The sculptures’ diversity is sure to pique your interest and keep you excited throughout the walk.

One deserving artist gets to snag the People’s Choice Award. Being of the feathered persuasion, my vote went for “Cagey Birds”.

But of course, there are 79 other favourites to choose from.

If you can’t visit in person, no worries, you can vote online too!
