BOB the Bridge – Omaha, Nebraska

Bob here, quacking away with tales of my exciting escapades.

Today I’m bubbling over with excitement to tell you all about my fabulous friend, Bob the Bridge.

His beautiful S-curved cable-stayed design connects Council Bluffs and Omaha’s stunning riverfronts.

“Bob” opened on September 28, 2008, thanks to the efforts of Nebraska Senator Bob Kerrey.

Mr. Kerrey secured the funding for this extraordinary project. Hence the moniker “BOB.”

Bob holds the distinction of being the first, and perhaps the only, pedestrian bridge to connect two states seamlessly!

Fun-seekers couples, families, cyclists, and joggers love to spend time crossing BOB. Every age group enjoys BOB!

Day and night, Bob exudes a majestic presence.

    Labor Monument – Omaha, Nebraska

Oh, hello there! It’s me, BOB the Rubber Duck, paddling around the beautiful Omaha riverfront!

You know, while I’m happily floating along, I can’t help but notice something spectacular just a stone’s throw away from me – a monument dedicated to the incredible hard work of our laborers.

So, right here beside me, five magnificent bronze statues stand tall. Each one of these marvels is a whopping eight feet high!

They’re not just standing still, mind you; they’re in action, pouring refreshing water from gigantic ladles straight from an old refinery.

Now, let’s talk craftsmanship! The talented sculptor Matthew Placzek poured his heart and soul into this creation. He says this monument…

And guess what? It recently got a fabulous makeover! With new paint, a nice sandblasting, and a sparkling refurbishment of the water feature, it looks as fresh as a daisy!

It warms my little rubber heart to see everyone appreciating the dedication of those who’ve shaped Omaha!

It’s a salute to the hard-working men and women who have put their hands to the grind to create a better tomorrow. Inspired by the legendary Terry Moore and his partners, this sculpture brilliantly showcases the spirit of teamwork between business, labor, and government. Indeed, a heavenly homage to hard work, indeed!

The ladles tip the scales at an incredible 6,000 pounds each! In total, the whole structure weighs a mind-blowing 541,582 pounds: almost 271 tons!

Just think of the splashes I could make with that kind of weight!

Before you float away, don’t miss out on “Union Walk” just south of the monument! It’s lined with plaques that celebrate the essential contributions of organized labour throughout Omaha’s rich history.

It’s perfect for a leisurely stroll, allowing everyone to reflect on how this wonderful city and its unions have flourished together since the mid-1800s along the banks of the great Missouri River.
