Sooke Lions Club Duck Race – Sooke, British Columbia

Hey there, fellow water lovers! It’s me, Bob the Rubber Duck, floating in to share my latest quack-tastic adventure at the annual Lions’ Club Duck Race in Sooke, British Columbia! As a rubber duck, I felt right at home among the community spirit and excitement that filled the air.

Let me provide you with a brief overview of the Lions Club.

With over 1.4 million members worldwide, this organization not only participates in global causes but also serves its local communities in many different ways.  The Global causes include childhood cancer, diabetes, disaster relief, environmental issues, humanitarian aid, hunger, vision care, and youth development.

The Sooke Lions Club is one of three Lions volunteer service clubs in Sooke that produce and participate in annual events and projects, including Sookarama, Canada Day, the Sooke Business Directory, Raffle Calendar, Santa Parade, Hard Times Dance, pancake breakfasts, and swim lessons for local schools, among other initiatives.

Their dedication to service truly shines through, and events like the Duck Race are an excellent reflection of their commitment to bringing everyone together!

As I bob around, I can’t help but feel the excitement buzzing in the air. The volunteers bring such a warm spirit of camaraderie, and I must say, they know how to throw a party! And oh, the duck-themed wear on the volunteers brought a tear to my eye: sunglasses, hats, pants, and even earrings – ducks, ducks, ducks everywhere. It was truly delightful to see smiles all around as they set up the race track and decorations—it’s like a big family gathering right here on the water.

Families and friends actively participate in the fun, engaging in all sorts of duck-themed games and activities that bring laughter to everyone. The special passport program ensures everyone is part of the adventure, leading them to various stations where prizes await. It’s a fantastic way to be part of the festivities and create special memories!

The attention to service is second to none, complete with an opportunity to recharge at a great barbecue pit, where delicious treats and refreshments fuel all those eager spectators who are just as excited as I am for the big moment.

As the countdown to the Duck Race begins, the anticipation is palpable! Everyone is cheering for their favourite rubber ducks, and I can’t wait to see who will glide to victory!

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond my control, I had to leave before the actual race. I’m sure it was a nail-biter to the finish, and I regret not being able to witness it.

So, if you are around Sooke in early May, you may be at the right time to join the fun and laughter at the Sooke Lions Club Duck Race. It’s more than just a race; it’s a celebration of community spirit and the joy of coming together. Grab your family and friends, and make a splash! Quack-tastic memories await!
